Has anyone figured out the "new 25 recruits per class" thing yet!?

TomVH called the school and confirmed only 25 allowed with no back-dating

i guess we will really have to see! i called the NCAA on mon. 11/30 and talked with Kelly from membership services(thats where they sent my call as i wasn't affiliated with schools or an athlete.) i asked her about the change in rules and after being put on hold(so she could check the manual) she came back and read me this.
15.5.6.3.2 Recruited Student-Athlete Entering after Fall Term, Aided in First Year. [FBS/FCS] A student-athlete recruited by the awarding institution who enters after the first term of the academic year and immediately receives institutional financial aid (based in any degree on athletics ability) shall be an initial counter for either the current academic year (if the institution’s annual limit has not been reached) or the next academic year. The student-athlete shall be included in the institution’s total counter limit during the academic year in which the aid was first received.
any rules changes would be brought up at the Jan. meeting and she was not aware of any changes being discussed. most of the rule changes in the upcoming meeting will deal with womens volleyball. so i guess we will have to wait and see.

yes and the issue was not with NCAA regulations but, rather, Big Ten rules that have been updated recently

I wonder then the rule change was made effective, and whether coaches were caught off guard by that? A lot of schools are going to be running out of schollies soon, seems like they might have been unaware?

I have actually been wondering the same thing. It seems as though the NCAA (but there is mention below that this is a B10 rule?) would have to provide the schools with at least a year notice of the rule change in order to fit the recruits where they need be.

knew about it for a while.
Witty will enroll in January and will count toward '10 class, not '09 class.

According to TomV, it's a new Big Ten rule, not an NCAA rule. It's crazy that the Big Ten would have to compete with stricter recruiting rules than the rest of the country.
I looked everywhere on the web but I can't find a copy of the Big Ten rules, nor any reference to rule changes.

Stupid rule...the Big 10 is shooting themselves in the foot.

Taken more stringent rules....

Meh, it helps the Indianas and Northwesterns of the world. Now that schools can't fluctuate too much with signings. Those 3*/2* guys at the bottom of Michigan/OSU's recruiting classes now fall to them.
And really, it only affects us this one year. Next year we hopefully won't have 25 free scholarships to fill, let alone 27-28.

and grayshirt the guys we think are of least use.

you should be our recruiting coordinator.
Or on the A-team.

Nick Saban hasn't figured out the 25 player limit. BADUMTISH!

has nothing to do with the SEC. It amazes me how short sighted the Big 10 is. And they wonder why we seem to be less than competitive on the national level.....hmmmmmmm.

why they would do this? they would rather a scholarship awarded to walk-ons than an incoming student?
if they're worried about coaches somehow making it that non-useful players find their way off the team to make way for a recruit, this is a couple of degrees downstream from that and doesn't make logical sense to me.
