Harvard 74 - BC 67

Submitted by HHW on
Which was more annoying while watching Blue get crushed in Salt Lake City? M continuing to shoot like a 3rd grader on a 10' rim or the near constant viewing on the bottom line of Harvard, thus Amaker's, victory over BC, a team that handled us with ease at Crisler.

because i thought we looked very Amaker-esque out there tonight, what with the appearance of absolutely no offensive approach other than jack up a terrible shot with somewhere between 25 and 30 seconds left on the shot clock. Actually, i think that's probably regression from the Amaker offense where you jack up a terrible shot with 15 seconds left on the shot clock

when it comes to athletic reputation; I'm sure BC was a little more stoked to play us than they were Harvard. Coach Amaker is also coming off being fired; I don't know about you guys but if someone fires me because they didn't think I could get the job done, I'm going to prove them wrong the next gig I get. That said, yeah there is some problems with our basketball team: defensive lapses, offensive funks, leadership issues. Coach B. has his work cut out for him.

He would still be at UM if he had done a decent job. TA's main problem was his utter failure to develop his talent. Players weren't much better as freshmen than they were as seniors. In the Ivy League, that really doesn't matter, because kids aren't going to any of those schools to major in NBA. So, negative recruiting won't work against him there because they don't really care if they develop into NBA-caliber basketball players or not, and he will probably get an occasional decent player. And, once in awhile, those players will win a game or two that they aren't supposed to. It's not like other teams really get "up" to play them.

ZERO patients out on the floor!!! without cj and david there isn't any floor leadership. sure manny and deshawn are the captains but as the announcers said a handful of times last night both of them aren't very vocal. again michigan allows a kid to have a career night(who else wanted to punch that little fuck in the face???). help defence isn't even thought with them most of the time, again we saw guys walking to the basket for easy layups... i haven't seen free throw shooting like this since the fab five. they left 9 points out there because they couldn't make free throws. i'm not going to bitch about getting out rebounded, because its going to happen because michigan doesn't have enough size to go against a team like utah. michigan needs to find a 3rd scorer fast or they aren't going to win many games this year this year.

are pretty annoying. I have been thinking about our team and I bet, despite his inability to coach defense or a competent offensive system, that an Amaker team with a starting five of Manny Harris, Kelvin Grady, Alex Legion, Deshawn Sims and Ekpe Udoh would be a lot better than what we are playing like right now.

and think he is a way better coach than Amaker. I do not want Amaker back. I also think the problems we are having now are temporary. That being said, Amaker did win an NIT and took another team to the NIT finals. That is more than nothing. And it is a sign of how bad our team is playing right now that the comparison can even be made.

perhaps I should not have said "amounted to nothing." I can definitely say he underachieved. He brought in some very talented recruits, who, besides Bernard Robinson Jr. (not his recruit), Graham Brown, and Daniel Horton never improved. Case study: Deon Harris, Mr. Basketball in Michigan (I think). Came in with great toughness, and an excellent shot. Very strong giong to the right, weak going to the left. Left after 4 years of TA: The exact same player, maybe worse. The reason I bring him up is because he was very similar to Manny coming in. Obviously Manny was a weaker shot, better rebounder, similar in toughness, and similarly weak left hand. Now Manny is a dynamic scorer. His A/To ratio has improved 1000 times in 2 years with Beilein. He can shoot the three better, and has developed a mid range game (a little, anyway). He is the best rebounder on the team. I know people will disagree about his shot being better since his 3pt% is low so far. But he has shot around 60% for 3 in his last two games, and I think he was just slumping earlier. He will end the year with a better 3pt% than last year, I'm sure.

Wait a sec, an Al Skinner-led BC team plays up to its foe and down to its foe? Color me shocked. One of the toughest teams to handicap because you never know which one will show up.
