Sparty did not fail here. Finally, Sparty succeeds.

It's not like Sparty is ever going to go to an NCAA Championship event.

I'm sure they'd be totally above board about reporting any concerns.

In fact, a group of masked men enforce these high standards at MSU.

1. Your ER doc friend may be violating HIPAA. He should keep his mouth shut about patients' lab values.

2. Standard ER labs would not pick up PEDs. It might pick up some blood doping, but that would only be useful immediately prior to a game.

3. Give MSU, Iowa, and Wisconsin credit - they develop kids pretty well. Granted, the Iowa S&C folks nearly killed a couple kids with winter workouts but what's a little renal failure between friends and coaches.

I am not naive, I do think players are using "helpers" to get bigger. I don't think, however, that it is an isolated problem for only one school or conference.

except that the ER doc could be in violation of HIPAA. He didn't mention anyone's name and didn't seem to give away enough information (unles the poster didn't share everything he was told) for anyone to determine who it was he was talking about. It really isn't any different than a Dr. saying he had a guy from Yarmouth Nova Scotia who tested positive for PED's.

The stuff you mentioned about the labs was spot on though. Unless they were specifically screening for PED's, they wouldn't show up on a regular ER CBC, lytes, creatinine etc.

I half agree with you regarding the HIPAA violation. While he may not have given much info, saying that there were abnormal lab values on some of the MSU football players tests could get him into trouble just for the possible rumors that could start by even implying such a thing. Also, high profile patients are usually not to be spoken of, and that includes football players as well. Correct me if I am wrong though, my brain is still a little dead since taking step 1 last week.

Seemed like Harris focused on basketball as he was quoted about how he was going to recruit other bball prospects like 2014 Jahlil Okafor, Devin Booker (keep your grimy hands off), and 2013 Jabari Parker. His dad said that Sparty was on track to land Parker which would be absolutely huge for them.

Drake Harris' father is here telling supporters Michigan State is on track to land Jabari Parker.

Drake Harris says he is recruiting Jahlil Okafor and Devin Booker.

One thing that I don't understand is why guys that are looking to go to the NBA like Gary Harris or Jabari Parker would consider going to State.    Tom Izzo is a great college coach in a lot of ways.   He wins games, his players graduate, he seems to run a clean program-- but he hasn't done much recently in producing NBA talent.

Look at the track record.    MSU hasn't had a player drafted in the first round since 2006 (Shannon Brown at #25, who's had a decent career as a bench guy and Maurice Ager at #28-- who hasn't done anything in the NBA).    They haven't had a player drafted in the top 15 since Jason Richardson was taken with #5 pick in 2001.   In fact, since the 2001 draft the only two MSU players that have been drafted in the first round at all have been Brown and Ager.  Draymond Green might break that streak, but there's no way he's going in the top 20.

And it's not as though he hasn't had guys with good credentials.    Kelvin Torbert, Paul Davis, Delvon Roe (who was injured) and Marcus Taylor were among the highest ranked players in the country when they came out.   Also, there were guys like Durrell Summers, Kalin Lucas, Marquise Gray, Chris Allen, Raymar Morgan, Isaiah Dahlman, Matt Trannon and Alan Anderson who were all four star players in high school.    Out of all these guys, Davis is the only one that got so much as a cup of coffee in the league (and he's out of the league now too).

Look at the current roster Adriean Payne was one of the highest recruited bigs when he came out and hasn't done anything.   Braeden Dawson was having a good year before he got hurt, but he wasn't going pro.  Keith Appling?  Derrick Nix?    All these guys were highly ranked guys and at this point, I would be surprised if any of them made an impact in the NBA.

Like I said Izzo is great coach, his job isn't to prepare guys for the NBA, it's to win, graduate players and run a clean program.   He does all those things very well.   But if I were a top-flight player looking to go to the NBA like Gary Harris or Jabari Parker, I'd go elsewhere.

but I don't think Jabari Parker is going to college to develop. He already has the talent to be the #1 overall pick in 2014 (already on the cover of Sports Illustrated), and based on some interviews I've seen, he is looking for a college where he has a chance to win a championship right away like Anthony Davis.  The question is will MSU have that kind of roster in 2013.  Supposedly, he is a really grounded kid and most expect him to pick between Duke and MSU with Kentucky as a wildcard.

I think MSU's roster in 2013 could be good enough for a championship.

Most likely would like like this:

Appling

Harris

Parker

Dawson

Payne

With Gauna, Byrd, Trice, Costello, Kaminski and whoever else is a 2013 recruit coming off the bench. I really love that starting 5.

Appling as a PG is still a question mark in my book.  Payne is solid but not spectacular player and it remains to be seen if he can carry the load as the primary big.  Dawsen is coming off a major knee injury. And their depth at PF/C is still question mark as not one of those other bigs has seen a meaningful minute yet.  The question is how good are the MSU 2012 recruits (Harris, Valentine, Costello, Kaminski) because those are the guys that are going to have to carry a big part of the load in 2013.

The 2012 season for MSU will be telling as we will find out what talent is on that roster.  Draymond Green was arguably the most important player to any one team last year.

Appling has to grow up i agree. Izzo has said that Payne has become a monster this offseason saying "Hes not the tall skinny guy anymore". He's really bulked up. He was spectacular every game against OSU last year, and if he can sustain that through the whole season, he will be outstanding. Dawson is ahead of schedule and should be playing basketball in a month. Valentine and Costello were #1 and #2 in Michigan Mr. Basketball, so they can play, and so can Harris obviously. Valentine i'm most excited about. he's pretty much a 6'10 point gaurd, that can play positions 1-4 (who from MSU does that remind you of?). Kaminski is coming off a shoulder injury and didn't play much except in the Ohio playoffs.

Based on who MSU has on their roster now and who they'll be adding next year-- putting Parker into the mix would place them among the contenders for the title.   They've got a strong nucleus and Parker could provide them with the same type of presence that Carmelo Anthony gave to Syracuse.

The one thing that I would give pause to in your statement is comparing Valentine to Magic.   Valentine's a great versatile player and I think he will end up having a career much like Draymond Green but:  (1)  the kid is 6'5" not 6'10" and (2) dude, you're comparing him to Magic.   Let him play a game before you make those comparisons.

If Jabari Parker goes anywhere but Kentucky, I will be shocked,  Calipari is the best recruiter in College basketball (whether he does it within the rules is another story)  and he has a history of getting uber-talents out of chicago.

but I think the OP point has some validity. For a program that has had as much success as MSU the last 10 years, they have a dearth of players currently in the NBA:

Zach Randolph, Jason Richardson, & Shannon Brown

Compare that to Michigan who has been in the darkness for most of the last 10 years:

Jamal Crawford, Juwan Howard, and Darius Morris

A little interesting.

True, but if i had to rank these as of now, 1.randolph 2.crawford 3.richardson 4.brown 5.howard 6.morris(hasnt done anything yet)  Surely we are on the rise, but lets not forget msu consistantly is getting deep in the tourny... believe or not but that does matter to many recruits.  I think we are definitley at the rate t join them with our recent success recruiting, but there is a long ways to go

No one is arguing the level of success MSU has had. But it hasn't translated to the NBA and that is the point the OP was making. The fact you can even make an argument to compare Michigan's current NBA talent to MSU's is the point. Based on the level of success they have had (and we have not), you would think the comparison wouldn't even be close.

Howard and Crawford were not at Michigan in the last 10 years. If you are comparing the number of Spartans to sign NBA deals since Juwan Howard was drafted then you need to add more than the three Spartans you named. I guess I dont follow the point you are trying to make. I'm having a helluva day though. Could just be me.

Dang, I'm surprised to see this.  Pretty hard to believe they haven't had a top 5 pick since 2001.  Oh well, hard to argue with the college results.

Could you be bothered to put some f*cking information in your post?!  I read this site daily and I don't know who "Harris" is. If you can't be bothered to paste a source link, don't bother creating the thread. And get off my lawn while you're at it.

It seems right now the "OP" has made you feel irritated. Is that a correct assumption? Now I want "OP" to say what he feels. Go ahead "OP."

"OP": I feel like "Lakeside" is deliberately trying to make me feel inadequate. Like I don't include enough information in my posts and therefore leave him searching for answers that he can't find on his own.

"Lakeside.": That's such bullshit "OP." Every time you open your mouth you expect people to understand just exactly what you're talking about, when half the time they don't! Can you see I"M LONESOME!

"OP": I feel like what you're telling me is that my sketchy posts make you feel lonesome.

This is 2014 recruiting right? I've been skipping those sections due to the fact that my care-o-meter is still stuck on "don't".

Am I trying to make the OP feel inadequate? Honestly, yeah a little. If you're rushing a post out because your ego needs to be first  then do that and come back after it's posted with an edit. It's not difficult and if you can't do that much then you deserve some feelings of inadequacy.
