"HARD EDGE"

Submitted by leftrare on
I followed Brian's link to MVictors where Greg posted a bunch of really good looking pictures etc from game day. The picture he has of the "media entrance" shows in big block letters "HARD EDGE". Anybody know if that's a new thing? I ask because I witnessed the Victors Walk and was really surprised to see 100% of the players and coaches looking like somebody had just died or like they all had to go euthanize their grandmothers in about an hour. No smiles, no high-fives, not even head-nods to the crowd of screaming faithful inches away along the parade route. Again, I ask the board -- is this the typical Victors Walk mood on the part of the team, or, is HARD EDGE a new mini-theme, or, does anybody think The Article inspired them this way for just this game?

it up the "game face" thing. But I was puzzled that so many of us were there cheering on the team and supporting the coach and almost none of them even acknowledged anyone. It was almost as if they were coached to have their game faces on and not show any emotion. Hey, they won the game and looked good doing it. If that's what it takes and they win every week, I couldn't care less.

For filling me in a little. I described the Walk to my wife and her reaction was that the players had been "cowed" by the coaches. I tried to convince her that wasn't the case, that the "elders" wanted it that way, as opposed to the coaches, but still she had me wondering. But still, what does my wife know?

I guarantee you it has something to do with focus/concentration/ignoring distractions and not a lack of excitement for the game. These players have so much emotion going into the games, maintaining silence and focusing on the task at hand can only amplify and intensify the power they unleash on the other team.

if you're laughing and smiling and slapping hands with the crowd. I've seen vids of other teams doing a similar walk to their locker rooms through supporters and it's basically the same thing: they're serious and focused on what's immediately in store for them. Frankly, given last season and the tough games ahead of them this year, I'd be far from encouraged if their pre-game demeanor was anything different. This ain't tiddly-winks.

I don't know if "HARD EDGE" is new, but we've always had various messages painted on the locker room walls. I know that under Carr we had "PURSUIT" painted near the entrance.
