Anyway, last night Jim Harbaugh called one of his former teammates. The conversation did not start well as my source states the San Fran head coach said, “Would you hate me if I didn’t come?”

1) Ted Spencer was U of M’s Athletic/Admissions dude for many years. Spencer left this year and has not been replaced. Harbaugh wants to replace Spencer with someone philosophically in line with Ted.

Harbaugh has concerns that Michigan President Mark Schlissel wants U of M to become more like Brown University. Schlissel’s response is that’s not how he wants to operate.

2) I can confirm that Harbaugh’s agent is the one who leaked the contract details to the national NFL media. Which is weird since the U of M athletic department kind of leaked the same information two weeks ago. Very strange.

3) Further complicating matters is it now appears the Atlanta Falcons are extremely interested in Jim’s services and might be ready to part ways with Mike Smith. And they have Home Depot money.

4) The only piece of good news my source can provide is Jack Harbaugh is still extremely desirous of his son’s return to his alma mater.

If the guy who roasted UM over its supposed practice of discouraging football players from taking demanding courses while touting Stanford's rigorous academic standards would then refuse to come to his alma mater because he was afraid it was going to be too stringent about admissions standards.

I'd hate for M to put all this work into getting Harbaugh to Ann Arbor, only to watch him not succeed, relatively speaking, because there's a .5% of his heart that is not fully into Michigan. I know. I know. Unlikely to be the case with a guy like Harbaugh, but still.

Harbaugh fears next athetic admissions officer will try apply Ivy league admission standards?   I don't thnik so.  The Ivy League doesn't give out athletic scholarships. Apples and oranges; it's a non-issue.  Especially since Michigan has made huge improvements in this area recently.

IF true, Harbaugh reaching out and saying that to a friend/teammate is certainly a bad sign. All the rest seems to be nonsense. Michigan is competing with his heart, not a particular NFL situation, and the university will toss the keys to everything about the program to him.

That alleged conversation sounds more like a conversation between HS girls than a coaching candidate and former teammate.  IF JH trusts this friend enough to talk feelings than this person would not run to twitter or the media or this person isn't much of a friend.

Heck, even my son will say, "Mom we don't talk about feelings" when my wife asks how one of his friends is doing.

Do they still make Roofies?  It may be time to take a Roofie or six and sleep until this is all over.

Couple things, the whole UM being like Brown? Can you be like Brown and pay your football coach over 6 million? Seems contradicting to me. Also, I too think it is 50/50 for Jim, he wants two things, coming home but he also loves coaching at the highest level. I'm still hoping but think at best it's 50/50.

It makes a little more sense as to why the NFL Talking Heads are jumping on board, because they know the devistating letdown down afterward?

Think about it.

From what we have seen a number of people report, it really does seem like Jim loves Michigan, but that his heart is in the NFL.  If, as Schefter reports, Jim has had a stream of family and friends call to try to encourage him to go to Michigan, and he is still on the fence, this sounds like a classic case of:

Choice A:  Thing that would make so much sense that it is obvious, and that everyone close to me is telling me to do, and that would make all of said people really, really happy, even my Dad who I idolize; and

Choice B:  This that just feels right to ME at this time and that I really, really just want, despite the fact that it doesn't make as much sense.

Hate to say it, but in those situations, Choice B almost always wins out.  To me, if Harbaugh is really worried about the admissions dean, or if given the amount that Michigan is alleged to have put on the table he is still curious about that Atlanta may do, it is obvious that Harbaugh is just looking for an excuse or justification to choose the NFL.

Hate to say it but if that is the case, I hope that Hackett has been lining up some good plan B candidates.

Wiley got everybody excited. Though right underneath the SportNation show they were mentioning Harbaugh’s family is pushing him to accept Michigan job, but Jim may still wish to weigh his NFL options. So maybe the concerns about his wife and family not wanting to be in Michigan are at least over. Though I guess no one can be for sure about anything right now.

I'll be glad when this madness ends. If Jim Harbaugh doesn't come, but Michigan's plan B is a great hire, then the dong punch won't be so bad. If the plan B coach is a joke, I'm taking a freeking break from sports. This is a rollercoaster ride.

Why does it matter what Home Depot's market cap is? Home Depot is a public company, why would they get in the business of paying coaches salaries? It would piss off the stock holders.

Arthur Blank is worth $6.2 billion, but Stephen Ross is worth $4.8 billion (and, he is just one of many wealthy donors).

It seems every "sourced" news flash is different from the last.  I'm exhausted. Ready for closure on this one way or another. Jimmy just come out and say yes or no and move the fuck on, so Michigan can as well. Damn.

There is no reason to wait until Jan. Jim has enough information to make a decision by next week. I think it would be wrong to be angry with him if he stays in the NFL, but a lot of people probably would be disappointed. Hope Les is ready, willing, and invited.

As soon as the National media catches up with the Michigan media, Moss switches sides and is going against what everyone else is saying........ He's getting paid everytime someone goes to his site.

I don't know what is credible and what's not, I just wish it would all end very soon!

I have a hard time believing a grown man would say to another grown man about a very important career decision, "Would you hate me if......?" Just seems very out of character.

I find his question to a former player good news. It says, if accurate, that there existed the idea that he was coming. If you had expressed nothing to anyone about interest in the job, the question wouldn't make sense. So he's having second thoughts. I think we expected this.

Secondly, the other items suggest the same - he's examining the logistics of coming, i.e., admission, wife on board (from another source), etc.

Not discouraged. Guy is seriously looking at it. We just need to talk this bird down to the ground.
