Harbaugh on Tom Crean
Eh. So what? Can't really blame the guy, no matter how unlikable Crean seems to us.
Our coach values family above sports. Works for me.
I think he could have said something along the lines of "I hope Tom coaches the best game of his life, but Michigan still pulls out the win"
My thoughts on Tom Crean: he's a douche.
can't really get upset at family first, although it makes my eye twitch a bit.
Exactly! "Family comes first" comes in to play in real life, serious situations... not in sports where it doesn't really matter who wins

As a coach I'm sure Jim Harbaugh realizes it is important to him and his family if he wins or not for his job security so why would he not want his family member to win and keep (or improve) his job security?
"Where it doesn't matter who wins" tell that to the guy whose livelihood depends on him winning in a sport....
This cast is itchy.
Who on earth would neg this gem?
Yeah poor Tom Crean. I'm sure if he ever gets fired he'll be begging for change within a year.
And it pissed off Pat Beilein too, iirc; he had a tweet, withdrawn, complaining about it. This is not a good look for our football coach. Better to keep his sentiments to himself, say something a little more politic like "I'd be very torn, etc."
Also, let's separate matters out--wanting to see your bro-in-law succeed is one thing; wanting to see him beat Michigan is another. If I'm Manuel I'm measuring my big boy pants and asking Jim to cool it on this one. A serious danger that, at some point, this explodes into public view in an unpleasant way.
At some point we will see who calls the shots in the AD.
I'm not a fan of Harbaugh's comment either, but it's not really that big of a deal that the AD needs to get involved. This was just an off-the-cuff response to a question intended to put him on the spot. And hasn't it already been reported that Manuel has spoken to Harbaugh about some of his tweets? I do think that was appropriate--not to censor--but to point out that not every perceived attack requires a response.
Seriously? Harbaugh loves Michigan as much as anyone and that was evident when he left about 10 NFL job offers on the table to come back to Ann Arbor. How can anyone be mad at him for rooting for his own family. As much as I love UM I would fee the same exact way. Nothing wrong with that and people don't need to be so sensitive about it.
it's cool to root for the competition against your own company as long as it's not your department?
as bad as he is, he probably roots for us against State in football at least despite being Izzo's assistant. Those two are very close (Jim and Tom that is)
I'm sure he roots for us in Football regardless of who we play.

Exactly, he's roots for Jim even against Indiana.

He better after this news
Kinda weak. Idc if my brother-in-law coached Duke. I'm not ever rooting against my alma mater.
My brother-in-law's an ass. I'm rooting for the cops.
Easier to stomach if I understand this is really for his sister, rather than Crean.
Michigan will never play Indiana in the B1G Tournament Championship because Indiana always flames out in it early. Every year, set your watch to it.

the Tom Crean-Indiana relationship isn't going to last much longer, so what's the chance?
Maybe he takes over for Izzo. Yikes. Then what?
I mean, there's brothers in law, and then there are little Brothers
Why would he leave Indiana for MSU? IU is a destination job.
That's a joke.... idc if he's your blood brother. You don't openly admit you'd root for him. Just say that you'd be happy for whoever won. Idk. Just dumb. But it's just my opinion. If you don't like it, don't get all upset.

Are you pissed that Jim Harbaugh would root for another team in another sport over Michigan? Does this make him a non Michigan Man?
Jim secretly wanted to lose to the Ravens.
Discuss.
Come on. What's Harbaugh ever done for Michigan?
No reason to get upset folks, this is a unicorn scenario. Everyone knows Crean will never get to the title game.

I think most of would do the same thing.
Pretty weak. Family does come first. In everything except your alma mater.

Really no right answer here and I have no problems with his sentiment. Next thread!
I mean... it's his brother in law.. in a game. In which he coaches for the other teams school. I have a problem with it. It's okay to have a problem with it. Doesn't mean I want us to set the guy on fire or fire him. But yes, I don't like it. But also, I'm over it.

You don't seem over it
Who cares. Harbaugh could have sex with my wife and I'd still be a big fan. Life's too short to care about shit like this. He's one of the greatest football coaches in the country and he's Michigan's, for a long time. Nothing else matters.

While I appreciate the enthusiasm, I hope you're not serious about that. If you are, I hope your wife never catches wind of how you feel.

Sees Jim Harbaugh.
Who cares?

Makes sense. We all went to (or have always supported) M. If your sorta douchey brother in law, and father of your nephews coached for IU, you would probably root for them too.
But also fuck tom crean
Nothing to see here. He's right and it makes me like him more that he's honest about it.

Yep.
I concur.

What if it was rich rod saying this?
