Harbaugh story: playing catch with 3 coeds

Submitted by StephenRKass on

I just ran across a fascinating Jim Harbaugh story. The gist of it was he played catch with 3 girls in the law quad grass across from Dominick's. He wasn't kidding around, and they all ended up injured from the speed of the football. Not a gentle game of toss. Here's the link:

I have a Jim Harbaugh Story

It is a pretty crazy, unreal, and very Harbaughesque story. Good read. This, however, brings up two things:

  1. I used the search function to look for the story on mgoblog, and failed. Maybe someone who is more internet savvy could tell me how to search for it. I am a regular reader at Mgoblog, and I'm positive I've never seen this link. But I could have easily missed it as well.
  2. It would be nice if there was a tab at the top (maybe under mgoboard or useful stuff?) with a repository of Harbaugh stories. Mods? Proprieters?

Yep, I saw the dateline right away. That's why I searched for the story. I don't post all the time, because I really don't have a whole lot worth posting, other than occasional links. However, somehow, I never had seen this account, and thought it was hilarious. For several years, I lived about a quarter mile away from Dominick's, down on Hill Street. More than a few occasions, on a warm sunny day, I sat outside with friends at Dominick's with a mason jar of beer and something to eat. So I could easily imagine something like this happening.

I remember this story. Thought I had read it here.

Those poor young women thought they were going to bag a celebrity. I can only imagine the rites of passage Mrs. Harbaugh 1 and 2 had to go through...

My story like this involved Rick Leach.  I was drinking at Dooley's with some friends and heard a commotion a couple tables away.  Turns out it was Leach's birthday and he was being treated to drinks by most of the offensive linemen.  I walked over and wished Rick a happy birthday.  I was wearing my marching band jacket and Rick mentioned how much he loved the band and invited me to join the party.

The linemen were drinking pitchers of beer.  No glasses, they were actually drinking from the pitchers. I'm not nearly lineman size, but didn't turn down a pitcher when it was offered to me.  I don't recall any of the remainder of the evening but heard later that it involved me throwing up on a bouncer on the way back to Couzens Hall.  A couple of the players had to stop the bouncer from caving in my head.

That's my "cool story bro" cool story.

Just checked the weather history...it was in the high 20''s low. 30's all week with snow flurries.

Seems unlikely. It was also right after he got hired, right, like JH would be playing catch outside 'cause he had nothing better to do.

I'd love to hear lots more stories . . . about Harbaugh, about interactions with athletes, about Beilein, about Bo and Carr and all kinds of stuff. If you personally had interactions with athletes, please share them!

Is "Fake News" now a thing? Yeah, if you read the article, it said Spring. I remember gorgeous sunny days in April. Perfect time to be outside.

The story is actually somewhat probably to me because of that good sized patch of grass right across from Dominick's and above the underground part of the library. That would be a relatively flat area with grass that not all that many people walk through, with few trees overhead, and completely visible from sitting outside in front of Dominick's. Perfect place for Harbaugh to toss a football with several students.

I'm curious how Dominick's is doing. It always has seemed kind of quiet . . . never the buzz of a place like Zingerman's. But still, steady solid amount of business. Always a nice place. I love a place like that with character, not dead, but not "hot," so that you have to wait in line to get in. I always liked quirky local places that did plenty of business, but weren't slammed with people. I read a piece on how the chains have really overrun America. I don't like that, but I guess if you have one really successful restaurant, you want to keep on adding more.

The story seems cool, but feels fake. From my recollection, the area where they would have to be in order to have a decent game of catch (15 yard spread) is a bit of a ways away from the front porch of Dominicks, deeper into the quad. There are also trees on the other side of the street I believe. To be able to hear what Jim is saying to the girls seems a bit far fetched.

It could all be true, but doesnt feel that way.
