Harbaugh reaction/Late afternoon Overflow Thread

Submitted by wlubd on
Other thread's getting a little cluttered. On the plus side, it's Friday and drinking sounds much more appealing than getting dong-punched.
Within the realm of reality, where do we go next?

I don't think Hoke would care but you better believe that the fanbase would know he was always the fallback. If Brandon wants someone to unite the fanbase, the guy we had to settle for because we couldn't get someone better is not going to do it.

assume that DB wanted Harbaugh, contacted Harbaugh, and was turned down by Harbaugh.  At this point, there is no solid proof that any of these things happened. As far as I can tell, Brandon has either contacted various candidates in a fairly simultaneous manner, or has, perhaps until today, contacted no one.

Either way, Hoke should not be offended.

Wake me up when it's over.

don't know if this has been posted yet, but check out http://msn.foxsports.com/collegefootball/story/brady-hoke-not-jim-harba…

Hoke doesn’t rebuild programs by himself. He has the best strength coach in college football, Aaron Wellman.

Over the course of five years, Wellman took two fat offensive tackles (Robert Brewster and Andre Ramsey), an undersized center (Dan Gerberry) and a razor-thin tight end (Darius Hill) and sculpted them into all-conference players and NFL prospects.

Brewster, Ramsey, Gerberry and Hill formed the foundation of Ball State’s 2008 team and then landed on NFL rosters in 2009.

I'm a little girl for Aaron Wellman!

Can we please discard the idea that S&C coaches are especially crucial?  Barwis is outstanding at what he does, and the linebackers still can't get off blocks.

Barwis.  Wellman.  Whoever.  It won't matter if the head coach can't do his job right.

Wait, this actually works out perfectly! Harbaugh goes to the NFL to try it out. Average career of a NFL head coach? Like 3 seasons. 4 if he gets lucky. But in all likelihood he will be back begging for a college job again soon. Hoke or anyone else that we hire doesn't look like The One at this point, so we shouldn't have too much trouble getting rid of them when Harbaugh comes available again. The prodigal son finally comes home, asks forgiveness for spurning us last time, the team wins, everybody drinks and is merry. Sound good?

I'll tell you where we go from here (seriously):

- We'll know much more by Monday, and perhaps Saturday.  I do believe Les MIles is seriously in play, and that Hoke wasn't being courted because (until a few hours ago) Harbaugh was in play.

- Now that Harbaugh is out, and LSU plays its bowl game tonight, there will be a heavy push for either (or both) Miles / Hoke.  Gary Patterson admits he hasn't been contacted, which makes no sense unless we've got someone tee'd up.

- The only two guys that could be tee'd up would be Les Miles (LSU fanbase freakout, Michigan plane in Baton Rouge today) or Brady Hoke (Michigan is "dream job", name is everywhere).

These are just my thoughts from the research I've done today, trying to read as much as I can while still getting work done.

Completely agree, and if it turns out after the fact we hired Miles or Hoke because they'd been at Michigan before, I'll be pissed. If I had to make 10 choices at the college level at both a head coach and coordinator level, only Miles would be in that list and he'd be pretty low on it.

They might work, but Michigan experience should not (but like you said probably will) be a requirement.

I wish some wannabe journalist kid asked him that during the last press conference, "Mr. Brandon, when will you be announcing yourself as head football coach?"

Keeping the straight face is critical, but I'm sure our kid journalist could hold it together.

It's not that complicated. . .even if you wanted to stick to Brandon's stupid plan to wait until after the bowl game. Once Miss St finished beating Michigan's ass, you call Jimmy Harbaugh and say 'yes or no.' He says 'no,' you look around and see nothing else, so you keep RichRod one more year,  you win 8 games and give up another 450 points, and all the while you quietly lay the groundwork to bring in Urban *Legend* Meyer. . .simple as that.

3 or 4 years of Brady Joke. . .

The landscape is barren this year. . .w/o Jimmy H., the wise decision would have been to wait until the coaching pond is restocked. . .now we gonna have a little bitty bluegill coaching Michigan for the next 3, 4 years.

I mean... I don't know how old you are... but 234 text messages to 45 prospective athletes by one coach?  I know people in college probably send and recieve at least 100-200 texts a day if not more.

Thats... 5.2 texts to each person? Over how much time I wonder? And some probably responded so there was a quick conversation...

To be fair... I'd probably say on an average day I send about... 150-200 texts a day?  It's really not a lot at all.

I know it's illigal... but it's not exactly like texting is an obvious thing that Mike Leach would definitely know about.  If that's the reason we didn't hire him I'd be concerned about our program/fan base/decision makers.

For what its worth, and to toot my own horn, I've been clicking the sh-t out of the ad banners all day.

The most recent one was an ad for the American Military University.  Anyone ever heard of it?  The front page has a photo of a pilot outside of his fighter plane.  That should be false advertising - I immediately assumed that I could be a fighter pilot by attending that school.  It took me several minutes of mulling it over (right before submitting my application) to realize that I'm an idiot.
