Harbaugh Monday presser

Submitted by nappa18 on
Harbaugh understandably subdued. New eyeglasses? Better look imo. No Speight injury questions. Guess the word was out not to ask.

Sam Webb tweeted that Harbaugh was asked, "Could Speight be a gametime decision?" and coach responded, "could be". I also saw a tweet somewhere that Harbaugh said something to the effect of, "we'll talk to the doctors and see how he feels". so it seems to me like he was asked but not surprisingly we got little information.

Harbaugh threw the game against Iowa to ensure OSU could not go to the B1G title game and to rob them of some motivation in The Game. Playoff committee would look more favorably on a road loss to Iowa than a home loss to Indiana. No real consequence for Michigan as the team still has everything to gain if they win out. Would explain some iffy offensive play calling. (?) I'm not saying it happened, but I would not put it past the grand chess master Harbaugh or Ernst Blofeld.

Something about overall record or win pct tie breaker rule comes into play before the highest ranked in the CFP rule.  So, being that PSU would have 2 losses and the other 2 just one, then it becomes head to head for that scenario.  So, if we beat Iowa, then we lost to OSU, OSU would go.  NOW, if OSU beats us and PSU wins out, PSU goes.

3 way tie (with each team going 1-1 vs each other) would go to all the way to overall record which eliminates PSU for their loss to Pitt. Then it comes down to head to head Michigan vs OSU. Now that Michigan has a loss to a different B1G opponent either M or OSU will be eliminated in the Shoe and it would be head to head with the remaining 1 loss teams.

They will be ranked 2nd in the new poll. If they beat Michigan there is ZERO chance they fall. So yes, they may not get a Big Ten title, but their road to the playoff is actually easier now since they won't have to beat Wisconsin again. OSU is in the playoff over 2 loss Wisconsin or 2 loss Penn State.

I agree about that, and probably any logical person would.  But would it really surprise you for the comitte to have PSU/WI at 5 or 6 and Clemson down there as well and if they both with the conference championship, have them jump a team that didn't even make it to theirs?  Should they?  Probably not.  But OSU isn't in the SEC and you never know what this comitte will do.

No way...

But the fact that OSU will likely be denied a B1G CG berth no matter what did soften the blow.  The loss didn't hurt our chances at all, other than a Speight injury.  So this was... maybe a net positive?  Still, I'd take the W instead of the logic any day.

Sure...Maybe.  And don't you think that might be a motivating factor for OSU to hammer the #4 team in the country in their last showing of the year?

Again, let that rattle around.  His theory is Harbaugh threw the game (eyeroll) to give Ohio State LESS motivation in The Game.  Can you think of any reason why Ohio State might still be motivated to kick the piss out of Michigan?

Any at all?
