Harbaugh Interviewed, Several Topics Discussed

Submitted by Moe on

Will just post the tweets of the beat reporters, lots of good nuggets here:

Harbaugh met today with beat writers. On Norfleet: "it's our desire he remain at Michigan." said there's a "plan" in place to get his degree

Harbaugh says they have discussed adding helmet stickers for players but it's not defined.

Jabrill Peppers...Harbaugh says "a possibility" JP plays offense...and return...so a three-way player

Harbaugh says no more legends jerseys.

Harbaugh says Drake Harris will be ready to go physically when camp starts, Drake Johnson will be available too, working back to health

Harbaugh is still deciding about how to use helmet stickers (or if he'll use them). Doesn't expect any alternate uniforms this year.

Harbaugh says he feels like he always does before camp...and said he has had his "football dream". always "the final drive" and he's playing

We have the most recognizable and iconic helmet in football.  It is perfect just as it is.  Perfection cannot be improved.

Please don't clutter it with stickerz to make it resemble a preschool art project, or worse yet - more similar to a buckeye helmet.

I think that if Drake Johnson is healthy going into camp, he could easily go and win the starting job because all other running back just did not see the holes or hit them with the amount of power that Drake did last year. I think that Smith is his main competition because he always falls forward. But I think if healthy, Drake is th best RB on the team.

Peppers playing offense (as well as defense and special teams of course) could be the greatest thing to happen for the immediate future of the program, for several reasons, none of which are likely lost on someone as shrewd as Jim Harbaugh. 1. Get the best athlete on the field that much more 2. Get the ball in his hands and watch him dazzle 3. If he's really productive, generate Hesiman buzz, which further gets UM on major networks and not bumped by garbage teams, more Jabrill-centric highlight shows, etc. 4. If he's not really productive, it still makes the defense have to game plan for him 5. It becomes a great recruiting pitch for high level athletes who wish to play both ways 6. Profit

Like it or not, if he is, as I stated "really productive" playing three ways there will be no stopping the early Heisman talk. Nowhere did I say he's going to win it, but the TV analysts always throw out their early hopefuls, and having UM players getting any positive talk after the past few years is a good thing. It doesn't mean he'll win it, but positive press is always good when it comes to recruiting HS kids who have big dreams.

To be clear, I didn't mean that Harbaugh will tell every kid he talks to that they'll play both ways, but if he maintains the practice of using skilled players in such a fashion, then you can bet that elite recruits will ask about it at the very least. Harbaugh doesn't have to promise anything but an opportunity, which I'm sure is all he ever promises. But it's nice to have that history behind him to prove he's not just selling snake oil to kids.

This is music to my ears. He's probably the one player on the team outside of Peppers I am most looking forward to seeing develop.

Dear Drake's Hamstrings

Drake was such a breath of fresh air last season. Even if a run play got broken up or was doomed from the start, he hit the hole hard and ran as hard as he could, fighting for any yards he could. There is a certain urgency about the way he runs that seemed to be lacking in the other backs.

I could definitely see Ty Isaac being our #1 with Drake coming in as a support role. That'd be exciting to see.

Hell yes the return of the Drakes. Watched Maryland game on DVR (do you remember the roughing the kicker penalty that turned 3 pts into 7, or the dropped passes / terrible throws on simple out patterns on 3rd/4th down (including Canteen's drop in the end zone, turning 7 points into 3), or the Dever-tipped pass that dropped right into Likely's hands returned inside the 5, or the missed 39-yard FG by Wile, all in addition to the Norfleet return being called back?), and Drake was easily our best back.
