Harbaugh interviewed on Rich Eisen Show 3/9

Submitted by UMProud on

Rich Eisen had Coach Harbaugh on his show yesterday (via phone).  Good interview and Rich Eisen is a Michigan alum/fan if you don't already know that (thanks jbibiza).

Great interview & covers a fair amount of ground.  Nothing ground breaking but an enjoyable listen.  Covers the Florida trip, Twitter, the SEC, Colin Kaepernick, the coaching clinic and other relevant stuff.

He seems to only be willing to be interviewed by UM homers that are unwilling to question or point out his narrsasitic, arrogant and abrasive behavior towards everyone outside his circle of comfort.

is to just let the man expound and keep the questions very broad. This was by far one of the best interviews with Harbaugh I have ever heard. That back and forth about Twitter was hilarious.

Harbaugh's faux naiveté has got to be positively infuriating if you aren't a Michigan fan. The idea that he has no idea why people would be mad about the Florida trip because "in my America, you're allowed to cross state borders" is just so deliciously false, but he delivers it with a Gump-like sincerity that's perfectly calibrated to maximum troll. I love this man.

There was an article somebody posted here which nailed it: basically, when the SEC started pretending that they weren't mad because of the recruiting angle, Harbaugh started pretending that it wasn't about the recruiting angle too. And he is better at it.

Once you accept that framework, the naysayers pretty much have contrived arguments, and Harbaugh has lots of good talking points.

to have figured out how to play the SEC's bullshit game.

You can't play it in the realm of logic and reason, because they intentionally frame every argument before you even start so that you're always fighting uphill.  And their arguments are always so crazy (given the reality of how they operate) that you have to be half-crazy yourself to even have a chance.  They present a united crazy front that is very difficult to deal with.  It only works because they have so many people repeating the same crazy shit that eventually people think it must be true because so many people are saying it.

Harbaugh gets it though, and as you said, fights fire with fire.  They want to pretend that the reason they are upset has nothing to do with recruiting?  Fine, then we will pretend the reason we went on the trip has nothing to do with recruiting either.  Never mind that it is LUDICROUS and EVERYONE knows it is about recruiting.  If you aren't willing to play crazy with them, you can't even begin to fight.  Somehow he manages to pull it all off without ever seeming like they get under his skin, which of course, pisses them off to no end.

Great interview.  Harbs did not want to leave.  If you get a chance, listen to Eisen's interview with Ed O'Neil too.
