Harbaugh doing work tonight

Submitted by BeantownBlue on
Just shook his hand as he walked into Chop House with about a dozen big looking kids, presumably recruits. Everybody at the restaurant taking pics w/ him. Certainly has a celebrity presence when he walks in the room. Hopefully Wheatley isn't reading and wondering why coach took him to Red Robin.

Anyway, cool story bro, I know. Just thought I'd point out that he's living up to his enthusiastic Twitter promises and working into the night.

I remember Jim being very polite in giving me his autograph at the 1989 Spring game.  There were a lot of former players there that day.  I was a 12 year old at the time and I was on the prowl to see how many autographs I could get.  The only former player that I remember being a douche was Jamie Morris.  He yelled at me and said he would not give me an autograph because he was busy talking with someone.  I was totally embarrased.  Thankfully, Jimmy was nice to me.

The look alone makes me want to show off my complete and utter lack of bowling skills more often at Colonial Lanes. We haven't taken the kids there to see me mock the sport lately, but if that's what they can potentially offer in terms of surrounding now, I might have to change this.

Love Ruth's Chris.  I also own a fair amount of stock too so I'm partial to it.

Chop House AA is pretty good.  It has good ambience and every time I go back to AA to recruit we have our dinners over there.  You can't go wrong with the place.  They also have a good scotch selection.

that's really interesting to know that you own some stock in that restaurant. really makes this thread so much more interesting. here I was just thinking, "Gosh, I wonder if anybody on MGOBLOG owns some stock in that steakhouse?" and low and behold your reply came by as I scrolled down. Who'd a thunk that!?

how much I wanted Harbaugh (said I'd have traded our entire staff & class for him minutes after the Sugar Bowl win) and how his (then) potential hire would make Michigan an NFL conduit again, both coaches and players alike. It will, it already has. THAT SAID, I just don't think this staff has enough time to pull in the same quality of class we had verballed before the Utah game. IMO, we'll get around 14-16 kids but outside of potentially flipping Weber back I don't think any will be "top 100" guys. If Jim was here a month sooner? Likely. He just doesn't have enough time to break the bonds this class of kids have formed with other staffs. IMO, I don't think it's a bad thing but I think we'll see a few 3* Southern kids in the class. I've always added an extra star to any recruit that is below the Mason Dixon Line so that's fine by me. I think our max win total next year will be about 8 in the regular season but I think next year we will see a disgustingly good class. Great HC, very good staff but not enough time this year, IMHO. I hope I'm wrong but I don't see a Weber, KLS, Marshall, etc in this class. Cole might be it's highest rated player but, again, I'd have traded an entire year of football loss for Harbaugh so I'm ok with it. It also wouldn't shock me to be proven absolutely wrong. It's a staff of maniacs lol. I just don't see it given the time. If they only had more time.

And there is still time to hit that number.

As for the quality, it'll be a very solid class, IMO. Is it going to be 8 or 9 top 100 guys? No. But that's not realistic. We didn't go to a bowl this year.

We're not a good football team.

Harbaugh's impact in year 1 will be development of the guys ON the team. Why? Because there's so damn many of them.

This was never going to be a big class, we need to focus on developing the talent already on the team. We really don't need one guy from this class to play next year. Think about it. Not one guy are we banking on an impact. It'll happen, but we have enough young talent returning that we just need those guys to develop, pan out, improve.

Now you obviously will need the guys in this class down the road. So we just have to focus on finding guys that are going to contribute by their 3rd year (whether that's Jr. or RS So.)

In doing so, you're bound to hit on some sleeper or lower rated guys that end up becoming key contibutors.

We'll be fine...recruiting wise. I'm far more interested in seeing the guys on the team get A LOT better.

I agree very much with this. Also, no idea what to even think to the reaction of the other two replies. It's the android app so I can't space, I really wanted Harbaugh since we hired RR, many think all our troubles are over right now, etc. I wanted to clarify. Must be the rantings of a mad man, I tell ya! (I love, hate & love this blog haha. Good thing I use the app so I don't see negs/pos. Don't care who does what as long as I can post in threads.)

Look, it's going to be a small class either way.  We're trying to fill our key needs and we're only taking guys who are ready to win from day one.  Either way, Coach will get who he needs and he'll have to work with who he has for the first year.  I am hoping for a great record, but moreover, I just want to see a great competitive spirit in every game.  One day at a time, we'll turn this around and then the doubters will come back into the fold as well.
