The Harbaugh Daily News

Submitted by Swayze Howell Sheen on

Today's Harbaugh news: Watching his press conference after the win over the Redskins, I was delighted at the following quote (about 2 minutes in):

"That's not what this team is about. This team is about each other, about the team, the team, the team. They're not into criticizing each other, they're not into bad-mouthing each other, talking about each other. They're into lifting each other up."

Jim's still thinking about Bo, even in his daily work in SF.

Obligatory link to Bo's "The team speech" here.

I know in some ways this is not news - Harbaugh has always been a Bo disciple, but it was intriguing to hear Bo's words so fresh on his mind still after all of these years.

But with possible coaching vacancies at NY-G, Washington, Chicago, Houston, Jim will have plenty of future HC opportunities in the NFL. I think down the road he will become sick of coaching in the NFL and in about 6 to 10 years he will be ready to finish his coaching career at Michigan. If Harbaugh turns us down, we should go after Les Miles.  Miles would love this job. He could build a great team here in the easy B1G conference. I think Miles know that LSU will always lose at least 2 to 4 games playing in the SEC. I think Miles would take the job if offered. Though, I don't think Michigan will offer. I just have this bad feeling that Michigan is going to go cheap on their next HC selection. We will end up with another Hoke like coach that will destroy this program!

I would honestly be shocked if Hackett cheaped out on a coach. I think as a CEO he's familiar with the concept of spending money to make money. CEO's like to cut costs wherever they can, but not when it comes to personnel. For top people, you pay top dollar. Add to this the fact that he strikes me as a thoughtful and rational individual, and yeah... I would be shocked.

I'm a bit worried about the claims that he can't develop a QB, and has less effective offenses recently, but he has put some awfully good teams out there.

I think, though, that most likely he'd come in and do a good job stabilizing thigns at the very least; and could make us competitive with EL and Columbus.

That said, I think we need to be very cautious about our excitement. UM has many things going for it, but I'm beginning to think that the Presidents, regents, and AD's aren't one of them. Our political instability and infighting undercut our changes, I think.  If Michigan wants a Harbaugh its going to have to be a Manhattan project like efford. And I think the same is true, to a lesser extent for Miles.

They have to push very hard. And while I hope they are doing just that in the background, the total lack of any indication in the foreground is disturbing; especially in the face of our recruiting starting to come apart at the seams.

Lets say Harbaugh is not interested at this moment, he wants to try is luck with another football franchise (i.e. raiders, bears, dolphins, etc.) but states his love for Michigan has never left. Would Les Miles be a nice hire? My thoughts are Les is someone that will be able to coach these players as well as recruit well enough to get us back on track. In addition he will only be here a few years. After his few years are up, it could then be plausible Harbaugh is ready to jump shift and take Michigan to the promise land. Any thoughts? I feel Les Miles could be a great gap filler for a few years.

Nothing crazy about that scenario at all. Miles has wanted the job the last two times it has been open, and the word is Harbaugh is interested too. Other than logistics/timing, there's no reason either of them couldn't be our coach. Michigan is not some bumfuck high school team. It's prestigious, and has a whole hell of a lot of worth to millions of people. I'm pretty tired of people denigrating it because we've had 7 years of mediocrity. That doesn't put a dent in it.

the actual wording he used in that statement to The Speech.  I've watched that video at least a hundred times the words he used were almost identical.  I think it is quite telling and IF we get him back to Ann Arbor, he will be the right guy for a long time....I hope.

I'm a student at Samford University and I am doing a project on Fan Engagment in Football. I'm trying to collect data on football fan bases across the country in order to draw conclusions from reliable data. Please fill out this short survey to support Michigan football and help them win the most engaged fan base in the country! Thank you.

Last night I read up on Schlissel and feared.  I feared that even though nerds are good for the world, and nerds make the world a better place, and nerds think smart things, and most of us Michigan alums are nerds, that having such an ivy-weaned, mega-nerd President whose sole focus was academics (yeah, sure, not necessarily a bad thing at, you know, a top notch acadmic institution) would most likely cause Michigan to botch the next coaching hire, where most of the competent candidates do everything Schlissel scorned in the form of looking to cut as many corners as possible to get the competitive edge needed to compete in the hyper competitive world that now is big time college football.

Then I thought about how Harbaugh semi-ostracized himself 7-8 years ago by criticizing Michigan for something similar to what Schlissel was referring to, and it made me realize just how incredibly pivotal and vital it is that we land this man.  He just may be the only person on the planet that can bring harmony within the administration and bring the competitive fire required to succeed...

I didn't want more reasons to want Harbaugh to be our coach since the odds remain slim, but dammit, I NEED this man to be our next coach....

Given their various situations I think we have a  better shot at Miles than Harbaugh at this time.  I can see Miles finishing his career here, then Jim coming in after that.

He may still come here, but he is screwing with us.  And, frankly, we deserve it if we are going to read that much into a line from a press conference about the NFL team he is currently coaching.

The Michigan Man meme only sucks when you are losing.  It then gets ground in to you by the media.

Even Yost used the term back in the day...its historically part of the program.

Harbaugh totally quoted Bo in that presser..very cool.
