Harbaugh on dad rawk

Submitted by PeteM on
I'm at the Pizza House for Harbaugh's show and someone asked about who picked the music. He said that it was a team effort but that he's suggested "Main Street" and "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald", not exactly typical stadium rock (I feel like Ace or Brian mentioned Edmund Fitzgerald on a podcast)

When asked about who called the fake punt he said "Blake O'Neill"

Think about what was on the oldies station when you were his age. With me in 1991 it usually ended with the Beatles and Kinks -- early rock n roll and British Invasion. Basically stuff that was 25 years old. Nirvana's first record came out 26 years ago. The 19 year old is right.

have really stood the test of time.  Their music is relentlessly depressing, more so than I understood when it first came out, but it is still really good.  It is "dad rawk" without question, but time has been kind to Nirvana.  They have a lot of songs I would consider "classics" in the Beatles, Stones, Zepplin sense.  They were a really good bad band for a too short time.

I'd say that about their last few albums. I say it's odd because most bands with early success crank out a few similar albums but I can say they all sounded different up until Binaural, IMO. That and most after are interchangeable. I don't know how anyone could sat Ten-Yield were similar. I'm clearly a huge fan lol.

Very old. It's not bad but it's similar, IMO. Each album since Binaural is made of a few true gems, a few clunkers and a few "meh" tracks. I think that happened when they became the band we now know - a complete, happy band. I think giving other members more opportunity to write lyrics AND music has led to them being a better overall band with more longevity but lowered the "front to back" quality of the albums. That said, some of the beast stuff in the last 15 years wasn't written by Ed. It's just that almost all the bad songs in that same time aren't written by Ed, too.

well, not so much anymore as I've just become a fan of all kinds of music but as a teen-mid 20s they were unquestionably "my favorite band". I'm early 30s, btw. Anyway, I often wonder when that Era of music (all genres) will be considered "oldies/dad rawk". They've held up amazingly well over time and still crush it live but I'll admit that their last 3-5 albums are very similar and either very good or kinda bad. I've seen them live more times than I can count, btw. Still a great band but approaching oldie status. They're damn near HOF inductees at this point lol. Feels crazy to say but when No Code is almost 20 yrs old? Shiiii.....I'm getting old.

The local classic rock station in Portland plays Red Hot Chili Peppers. More specifically I have heard 'Californication' which was released in 1999. So who knows what passes for what these days.

On at the hospital or playing at a store and wonder if "shout at the devil" is appropriate. The devil man is there no rebellion left in teased hair, make up and songs about shouting at Satan?
