Harbaugh Comments Football Bust

Submitted by FauxMo on

I think these comments are 100% correct, but you'd have to imagine a certain former coach is cringing right now:

"I think of (a program) as not a static foundation but a locomotive that's moving down the tracks. Constantly in motion," Harbaugh added. "(The Michigan) train was moving in a direction, and this team stopped it. They stopped that momentum, that direction, and they turned it around. And that's not easy to do. They turned it right around on the tracks and got it going. It's left the station and it's picking up steam and we're going to continue."

the state of the program before his arrival. He deflected quite a bit of the malaise upon his first few months IIRC. Really classy move, IMO not throw anyone under the bus and place blame. Keep the train moving forward, Jim!

have not looked at the entire context, but that particular language is a little troubling to me. It could be read in a somewhat concerning way with regard to Harbaugh's perspective of his job at Michigan and how he sees his role, long term. I won't go into it because I am going to get negged already but I don't like that particular language

I'm somewhat of a nut when it comes to very carefully parsing words. I see absolutely nothing in there like what you're insinuating.

I think what ljohnb is suggesting is that Harbaugh might view his role as just to come in and fix the program--and then once its heading in the right direction again, he can leave.

That's reading an awful lot into those remarks.  Maybe Harbaugh will stay a long time, maybe he won't--but I really don't think we can discern his long-term plans (if he even has any) from this comment.

If so, it is what it is.  Harbaugh's standards for "fix" will be pretty high regardless.

If he does leave after fixing Michigan, we can all be at peace.  We can cuddle up with a bunch of trophys.

Don't like taking pot shots at the last guy, but Hoke deserves it for the "I wouldn't have punted" comment. Even steven. Beat Florida and lets add a bunch of five stars.

Even Hoke, who I'm sure thinks he could have turned it around, would have to admit that there was some turning around to do. This isn't a swipe at him or in any way controversial.
