Harbaugh asked about job status, if he wants to be back
Just got done watching the 49ers press conference.
Maybe Jim's mind has been on something else.......or somewhere else....
Jim Harbaugh on his job status: "My priorities are No. 1 winning football games."

Maybe he is not fully aware

I think it's safe to assume the Michigan job is still something he's thinking about if he hasn't taken the opportunity to just say 'no' yet

That was how I read it. "My priorities are winning games (in Ann Arbor)"

I kinda want him to also win the away games for us.

Winning football games ( for Michigan)!

I agree. Until he says no, then we should all remain optimistic.

Pretty shocking that two men paid to coach the same sport at a high level sound similar in press conferences eh?

How must he tolerate?
Should he take 5 or 6 million and an eight year deal from Michigan, join the coaches he knows who have been legend at M, get a bunch of perks, return to your hometown and buy a nice house in Barton Hills?
or
Should he accept a trade to New York City or just across the bay and work with lesser talent than he has had at San Francisco but remain an NFL head coach? Still, his salary would come in at probably 6 or 7 million once he renegotiated his contract and he could live in a nice section of Jersey or just stay in Santa Clara.
These are difficult problems to have. I wonder if he is thinking he should have just accepted the trade to Cleveland last winter.

Again with this same rhetoric that people were using before Hoke got canned. Yes, we get it, these guys make and will make a lot of money, and that is probably awesome. But yes, they are still human and despite making a lot of money, they can have a rough time, get stressed out, feel bad about getting fired, feel bad about having people plot against them. They aren't robots (Except Bill Belichik).

The 49ers want to get rid of him, but they will owe him money if they do. Now, all they have to do is wait for him to quit and they won't owe him anything.

michigan can help the 49ers out with a buy out of the last year

i don't think for a minute Jim Harbaugh is worried about his future. He's certainly upset about losing this football game!

if he's worried or sad or stressed. There's a lot of JH love on here to make him feel better.

Yeah there is more love here for free than a guy can get with a wad of $100s in a brothel!

Jimmy is confident enough in his own abilities that none of that is a significant stress to him.

He could come in and win more than Urb has to start and we would still want him fired for that VaTech lose.

My priorities are winning football games...at Michigan

I don't think he knows where he'll be coaching next year. Not sure what that means for Michigan. He could've said no from the beginning, though, so that's good.

If he'd made up his mind he would say something like, "I'm staying in SF" or "I'm not a candidate for the Michigan job."
You have a guy who's a hot commodity in the NFL and is a candidate for a major college position. Pretend that you're his advisor/agent.
Are you going to advise him to grab the first offer, or to wait and have all the alternatives laid out for evaluation?
If I wasn't a Michigan person, I'd say, "Let's see what the other offers are before deciding."
Of course, I AM a Michigan person, so I'd really say, "Take the fucking Michigan offer and let's kick some Sparty and Buckeye ass!" But that's just me.
December 7th, 2014 at 8:15 PM ^
I can't believe Michigan would be outbid. We're in pretty dire straits and Harbaugh has intimate connections to the university. NFL teams have other options that would make more sense. Surely M values Harbaugh substantially higher than any other team does.
December 7th, 2014 at 9:16 PM ^
I was there in the front row of the press conference. A reporter asked what his priorities were? Jim's response was "To make Urban Meyer my bitch"
December 7th, 2014 at 8:06 PM ^
They're saying "someone will try to get under his skin and get him to explode." "Something's funky in SF now, period. How to get it fixed is leaving people with question marks."
Implication is that the problems are on Harbaugh. These people are local media--SF football coverage, in fact. They're waving goodbye to Jim.

Him and the front office clash. The fans love him (at least the 9er fans I know, and from what I understand)

Not all the fans love him. My neighbor is a lifetime Niner fan and he's still pissed at Harbaugh for getting rid of Alex Smith and putting all his eggs in Kaepernick's basket. And after this season, that's not a bad point.
December 7th, 2014 at 9:21 PM ^
Read the comments in the San Fran newspapers, they do not all love him
December 7th, 2014 at 8:09 PM ^
it's exactly what any coach would say in that situation. He works for the 49ers until his boss says otherwise, and it's not his place to say anything different.
His responses don't really mean anything.

He can remain in the NFL and win a Super Bowl like his brother, but then what?
Or he can return to his alma mater and restore the legacy of his former coach and mentor. Ushering in a Michigan football Renaissance and a new age of glory. He can become a legend, immortalized in bronze outside Schembechler-Harbaugh Hall.
December 7th, 2014 at 8:27 PM ^
Take off your Maize and Blue glasses for a minute and look at the issue. Both are great goals to have. I can understand why he would stay in the NFL. Competing and winning in the NFL is the supreme test in football. As a competitor who wouldn't want that?

Did Saban have other NFL offers after his mediocre stint at Miami? Did Saban have to deal with academic and character requirements at Alabama. Did Saban have to deal having issues finding good players in his own backyard?
Let's try to see this from Harbaugh's perspective. Personally, I think Harbaugh has not completely closed the door on Michigan, but we're a backup for him now. If he gets multiple NFL offers (including the Giants), we are in trouble. If all he has is Oakland and the Michigan job, we have a better chance. Unfortunately, I have a feeling multiple NFL teams will want him.
