Happy Sweet Sixteen Day Posbang Thread

Submitted by ijohnb on

There was a day when the Sweet Sixteen only reminded me of what a dumpster fire the Michigan basketball program was.  This time brought with it only a passing interest in the NCAA tourney after the first day rush, it brought resentment and envy, it brought myself to the brink of actively cheering for Michigan State because at least I knew their player's names and because I was sick of watching Butler and George Mason.  Those days are over.  Happy Sweet Sixteen Day.  I hope I like my present.  BEAT THE VOLS.

Earlier this week, I was getting pretty down on this match up, likely as a result of the sports media's incessant love of Tennessee. Now I keep flashing back to that post about how deadly Beilein is when he has a week to prepare, and I am getting pretty confident.

Also, hope that Charles Woodson is in the crowd, as he has pretty good success when competing with Vols.

Sweet Sixteen shirt on and nothing but Maize and Blue.

Everything I'm wearing today is adidas. Literally everything.

GO BLUE!!!

Yeah it's the Maize one from MDen with the bracket on the back. Got last year's, too.

I was so pissed they didn't make an Elite Eight one last year.

Michigan has been to two Sweet Sixteens in my lifetime (1995). I'm not taking anything for granted like I have for other sports. I'm celebrating everything this program does.

and whatever team crawls away from the Kentucky civil war. Final Four baby! How about three B1G teams out of four? We could have our own civil war. I am getting too far ahead, but anything is possible right now.

First and foremost, it is a little strange to posbang before I've had the opportunity to fill myself with the customary pot of coffee, but on a day where we stand a chance to move on to the Elite Eight, I am more than happy to do so.

Second, it is 50 degrees here in Metro Detroit right now, and if you live around here, you know what a momentous achievement that is for us. Hopefully, it is a sign that winter has finally decided to pull up stakes and return north where it righfully belongs.

Also, did anyone else watch Baylor-Wisconsin? At least in the first half, I don't think there's been a more textbook Wisconsining lately.

Wisconsin's win was thoroughly enjoyable. Watched it in a bar here in NY, turned to the guy next to me during the first half and said exactly what you did, "textbook Wisconsin basketball. Very frustrating to play against. We'll see how good Baylor's coach is in the second half." Well, we did.

So hypothetical question.

Michigan is destined to lose in one of two possible ways. If we win today, we lose to MSU in the final. Would you rather take the loss today? Or the loss to MSU?

As unbearable as it sounds, I would have to take the loss to MSU in the final. Just so I can watch more basketball.

Go Blue. Beat Tennessee.

I'd take the loss to MSU as well. At least that way we could hang another banner, and we'd get to see Nik play a couple more times.

I'd rather we kick the hell outta Staee if it comes to that, but let's hope UVA wins tonight.

Not even a question, we always want to go as far as possible.  And frankly, I do not care who we lose to.  I would be just as upset if we lost to MSU as if we lost to Dayton.  The question is really, do you want to get to the Sweet Sixteen, or make it to the Final Four?  Not a tough answer.

Having said all of this, I do not think we are going to lose in this tournament.

Go Blue! Whatever happens it's been a great season. We have a wonderful coach and a team full of hardworking young men. Here's hoping for it all to continue into April!

Literally everyone outside of Michigan is picking Tennesse over us, because they are a mismatch. They have big men, and they can rebound a lot. Wait. Did I just describe Texas?

Michigan by 17. Boom. Roasted. (or whatever KenPom says instead of what I just said. ALL HAIL KENPOM).

Too bad we're not going to have a chance against Tennessee tonight.  Because you know, the last time everyone in the media said there was no chance we could beat Tennessee in the tourney, we got absolutely rocked, right?
