It's national bourbon day. I'm celebrating with some Booker's neat.

Well then, I guess I will make myself a drink.  Whiskey ginger, coming right up.

Last night I had a Manhattan for the first time.  It was okay. Any Manhattan lovers out there?

In honor of this day, I finally decided to open that bottle of Elijah Craig in the cabinet. Actually, not bad at all and it has finally made the trip to the area around Bardstown, Kentucky a few years ago (wife's extended family) totally worth it.

and probably cheap specials at the bar, but there's live music, good food and pool, so not bad for a post-celebration of the girlfriend's 21st.

Wishing I had some of the Pappy Van Winkle 20 that is sitting in my uncle's house in A2, though.

Love this stuff. I'm a bigger fan of scotch (bring on the campfire in a bottle called Ardbeg any day of the week!), but bourbon is good, too. And Bulleit is a damn fine one.

While Julian Van Winkle was hosting a bourbon dinner in Greenville, SC, one of my good friends approached him and asked him what bourbon he recommended to drink since his stuff was so difficult to find.  His response: Elmer T. Lee.  It's an excellent bourbon, it's easier to find, and it can be purchased for about $35.  Give it a shot next time you are in the market for a new daily drinker.

Unfortunately, I am on call this whole weekend and thus unable to celebrate this day appropriately.  Feel free to have an extra drink or two for me.  Cheers!
