We'll be Champions

I have mixed feelings about Mike Hart because even though I know State would haven gotten good without his comment, Ive always felt he was to blame a little bit. But, he was a great running back for Michigan and was poressured into saying that by the media.

After the game last year, their coach said it didn't have to be this way.

Well sir, you are the one that didn't let it go then and still hasn't.  The fact he even brought up the term "little brother" after the 2014 game was completely comical.

Dantonio, while he may be a good/decent coach, is an unbelievably immature human being who, like their fan base, has a huge inferiority complex.  And the funny thing is that he/they love to keep wallowing in it.  As was pointed out, he brings that 'lil brother comment up at every opportunity possible.

He shouldn't have said it but it's easier to defend a college football kid who was provoked into saying it by Dantonio's comments in September. When your 50 something coach is going at a college kid, it shows how immature that coach is. The thing is we now have a coach who will tell him to shove that stake up his ass in Harbaugh. RR and Hoke shied away from confrontation.

Sparty has been injuring Michigan QB's since even before they got Harbaugh in 1984.  They define their entire identity by their hatred for Michigan.  They found a mantra due to Hart, but it doesn't matter. They would have found another meme to help them focus their hatred.

The bottom line is that Sparty prospered due to Michigan's self-destruction in both basketball and football.  Izzo prospered because of the Ed Martin scandal.  Dantonio prospered because of the sabotage and firing of RR followed by the inexplicable hiring of a 47-50 head coach with no major college experience.

AFAIC, Mike Hart was right.  Regression to the mean, coming to a football stadium near you.

I get what you're saying, to some degree - of course it's not like you're saying Hart somehow caused the downturn against MSU via some karmic comeuppance, but he did give a very childlike fanbase an opening to use once things did go to shit - "Derrrrrrr, ohmigawd! He said that and then look what happened, brah!" They of course refuse to acknowledge that their own coach and players started it, but that's just who they are.

But not saying it would have never changed the fact that Dantonio is both a petty jackass and knows that being one is red meat thrown to his fanbase. You think he's bitchy now, wait until Harbaugh starts whipping his ass and NEVER calls to apologize for a damn thing.

was Purdue 07 when he had that crazy touchdown where it looked liked he was down but managed to keep his knee of the ground.  Awesome.

Too bad he got hurt later in the game :(

I knew it wouldn't take long for someone to blame Mike Hart for the recent lack of success in that certain game.

Think about it - if shit-talking actually led to losses, wouldn't we have a long winning streak in that game due to the constant garbage being spewed by their coach.

I'm 27 so he was a guy I got to watch as Michigan football moved to where it should be in every guys priority list. Glad Lloyd played musical chairs at the position against SDSU so he could get on the field.

Wow. What a great back he was. Those Henne/Hart teams are what made me fall in love with Michigan football. I remember thinking they would never graduate (I was young) and couldn't comprehend life without #20 and #7 lining up in the backfield. Crazy how time flies.

I've told this story here before, but it's worth pulling out again.

During the 2006 season, I had a giant lecture class in Angell that happened to be at one of the times athletes could fit class into their schedules. As a result, 3 of the starting 5 basketball players, most of the volleyball team, the soccer teams, other various sports, and damn near all of the football team (it seemed) were smattered throughout the room. The defensive backfield used to sit in a huge block in the middle section in the back, the offensive line squeezed in down the row, a lot of high profile skill guys... Leon Hall was in my discussion section.

So one morning I, tiny marching band kid, am sitting in the last row by the door with my laptop tuned to MGoBlog. I happen to be reading a front page article with a big as life picture of Mike Hart on the screen. Suddenly, someone slips in late and plops down in the seat next to me. I look over, and it's Hart. He looks at my screen and laughs a bit. I couldn't close that window fast enough.

I had quite a few run-ins with him on campus, as our four years directly overlapped, and he was always a super nice, totally friendly guy. He hung out in the Union Underground a lot, probably ate just as much Wendy's as I did (Huniorrrrr bacon cheeseburger!, anyone?). One hell of an IM basketball player, too. And nowhere near as tall as Michigan listed him. Like, not even close.

It is indeed hard to believe that he's 29 - even harder, in fact, for me to believe that I was 29 heading fast into 30 when that 2008 bowl game was played and the Hart era ended at Michigan. I'll be 37 soon enough and it seems like those days were indeed forever ago in Michigan football terms. Still, fond memories of Hart's play resonate into the present.

Happy birthday, Mike Hart!

Still remember the first time I saw him play, in the NY state championship game when he was a senior (on TV, I wasn't there in person). He went absolutely nuts, put up huge numbers. I remember thinking, well, his level of competition wasn't much in HS (he went to a pretty small school), but he just might turn out to be fun to watch in A2. Oh how I miss knowing we could get 5 yards a carry from an RB...

Mikes touchdown run in the state finals is one of the greatest runs in high school football history.

The article from the Syracuse newspaper that my Uncle sent my Dad after Mike Hart signed with Michigan. It told of his exploits and said people who underestimated him were in for something special.
Dad and Unc are both gone now but Oh What Memories. Happy birthday Mike #20! GO BLUE!
