Happy 17th Birthday to The Michigan

Submitted by DLup06 on

On this day, seventeen years ago, Mike Legg scored what has become known to kids playing hockey all around the world as The Michigan.  Enjoy!

(EDIT: h/t to MVictors.  Apologies for not having this the first time around, mea culpa)

I tried to do this hundreds of times and still haven't pulled it off. Instead, I should of prepared better for my ACT. Thanks a bunch!

I actually tried to pull this off in a game several times when I was younger...the defense was always quick to swat my stick down. I think the one real, golden opportunity I had where the defense gave me plenty of space, I actually dropped it on the way around. I remember listening to this game and then seeing the goal on sportscenter the next day and I was SO excited that kids where actually talking about college hockey at school the next day.

What made this so great was winning at Munn. This goal took place shortly after the Minn. band played the Sparty fight song to get the crowd behind them. The look on the face of all those A Holes was something I will remember forever.
