Hannah Nielsen is the new women lax coach

Submitted by massblue on

Did not see posted.  UM has found its women lacrosse coach.  Hannah Nielsen, who is perhaps to most celebrated women lacrosse player in the BIG if not the country, will lead the program.  She had a great career at NW, let's see what she can do for our program.

29 years old. Extremely bold hire that I think will work. 2-time Tewaarton winner which is like winning the heisman twice. Oh by the way, she isn't even taking the job until mid-July. She's still PLAYING professionally for the Australian national team. She's from Adelaide.

Of one of our teams hiring someone who could potentially have great impact on our program!  I know Michigan is still relatively young in Lacrosse but both men and women teams are on a great trajectory.

She's definitely young but she has a fantastic resume for her age.  You can't do much more than what she's done.  A bit of a risk given her age but I think a risk worth taking.

BC's head coach, Acacia Walker, was hired at the same age, and she's taken them from mid-level ACC to Top 5 team nationally relatively quickly, in part from being willing to pluck recruits from non-traditional locations like North Carolina.

It looks like they could not have done a better job with this hire...4x Nat'l Champ and 2x best player in country, plus young enough to relate to her players and you know her live examples will be as good or better than the girls will ever see in a game.

It only took NW 3-4 years after starting their program to win 4-straight national titles, so it's pretty reasonable to expect our new coach makes women's lax a real contender in a hurry.

Maybe let's pump the brakes. This is the best league in the country. Maryland is unstoppable right now, Northwestern had a dynasty not that long ago and Hopkins is still Hopkins. Plus PSU is really good. Just gotta compete with those 4 teams and upset them here and there to start out. I'm more excited about this hire than Kevin Conry with the Men's program, actually.

Her youth and the fact she's arguably the WLAX OG is gonna be huge for recruiting. And add a brand new stadium and team center into the mix.
