Hand Fluff from the Opening

Submitted by maizeonblueaction on

Free article, not a ton of new ground covered. Hand will decide before December. He kind of says he has a top five, that's really a top three, as we all know. One interesting piece is that it sounds like he's going to visit an (as in just one) SEC program this summer, if any. After that, it doesn't really sound like he's visiting any other places this summer, and is really just taking a break from recruiting and all that, which would seem to be good news for us. I think of the Care Bears. Out of respect for my childhood, here's a totally off-topic, yet somehow still relevant, Care Bear gif:

I don't think he's coming. He was thinking of coming to the BBQ instead of a family reunion but I believe he's headed to the reunion now. I think it's still a pretty telling sign that he considered not going to his reunion to come up here on an unofficial, though. Especially since he isn't putting much effort into visiting the other schools in his top-three.

I don't like that he's going to visit 1 SEC school then shut it down...that SEC school is likely Bama, our only remaining comp in my eyes. Unless his visit is horrible, which I don't bank on when it comes to Saban, I don't want that as the last "taste in his mouth" until he decides to focus on recruiting again months later. Hopefully he can make it to the BBQ THEN shut it down for awhile...focused on Michigan, with us as the last thought/last word/last visit before the break.

He's still going to take an official visit here for the ND game. That he's not taking many, if any, visits in the summer is a good sign, since it means he feels pretty content with the information he already has.

“You work so hard sometimes that you don’t realize how many awards you get. What I mean by that is this. My grandma has all of my awards in one room. That’s where I keep them. It got to the point where I was so focused on grinding that I wasn’t even worried about the awards, the ceremonies, the nice people you meet- everything. When I actually sat down- my grandma calls it taking a rest day- she was like look at this award this is nice and I was like when did I get this? It was an eye-opener."

I actually thought this was a pretty interesting part of the article, and it provides some insight into why he is handling his recruiting as he seems to be. From the sound of it, he's gathered all of his data and is simply mulling it over, but also taking a step back and trying to balance football with life in general. I also like that he wants to be able to enjoy what he has already achieved as well - I think there are adults that struggle with this actually. The way that recruiting seems to go, especially with highly touted kids like Hand, I can't say that I blame him at all for wanting to just get the information he wants from schools and then take a break from it.

thread title unquestionably implies porn or some kind of (possibly unpleasant) sexual act.  Possibly consider a slight edit.

At work and afraid to Google this. Anybody want to enlighten those of us who stay out of the internet's darkest corners?

like a pretty smart kid, he is realizing pretty early in the process that he needs some time to himself and relax before the spotlight is on him non-stop and he'll lose any sense of anonymity

I just wish he would have said he was waiting until November to make a decision, because then he's theme song could have been this gem:

Young people today just don't respect greatness enough to form their recruiting process around a wonderful song.

When he blended his Haitian roots with folk and hip hop, he made something unique that was great to listen to.

The fact that more producers don't utilize more types of music as inspiration for rap instrumentals is beyond me. Jazz and Blues music and live instrumentation would make a unique and powerful base for rap instrumentals, yet it is far from used by most rap producers. One of the few that does it that I know of is Adrian Younge (note: not Andre Young, aka Dr. Dre) who often works with Ghostface Killah.
