Hand and McDowell, 2015 Recruits

Submitted by BILG on

Hoping we don't lose Hand and/or McDowell based on our recent performances.  Defense has looked good, however, and Mattison is still a top notch coordinator with a pedigree, despite the board meltdowns about us getting beat by freshmen QBs and not blitzing.  Hopefully we can right the ship and not lose any of our current haul, but the future guys definitely must be wondering what is going on in Ann Arbor, especially guys on the offensive side of the ball(Damien Harris and Campbell for 2015-our two biggest pickups on offense.)

Call me a heretic, but what really IS Mattison's track record and why does he always get a free pass here?  What is the longest he has stayed at a championship program?  What were his best defenses that he was solely in charge of?

However if the offense was even slightly below average I wouldn't even be thinking about the defense giving up game winning drives against PSU and Nebraska. or getting pushed around by Akron..

They get better during the year, and will get better next year as well. They've had some letdowns, and need to get better in order to win games when the O cannot. But they've carried the team plenty this year. The difference between the D and the offense is that we can assume the D will be better next year. It's harder to assume that for the offense.

It's the downward trend that is so worrysome.  Watching Alabama/LSU you realize it's just different football.  I hate the SEC and think they are top heavy, but those two teams just look different than anything in the Big Ten, OSU included.  Bigger, faster, better coached.  I don't see how we ever get to that level with our current staff...they are just too soft.

And it may sound like sour grapes, but there really needs to be an NFL development league for guys that should not be going to college.  The student-athlete experience is just completely different at a school like Alabama and LSU vs. Michigan and Notre Dame.  Don't get me wrong, this is not an excuse for our piss poor play this year, as a real college program can reach the levels of Stanford...but I really think that's the peak for a school trying to run a legitimate collegiate program.  For those saying Stanford is as good as Bama, no, only at the O-line perhaps.

The play calling and the fact Gardner cannot read a blitz and make a change at the line.

Borges is really calling a shitty season and Gardner has happy feet and cannot make any adjustments. Wtf is wrong w this line. If we want man all then we need to line up in power I and pro set and stick to it and work out the kinks, dump all this dance around football. His game plan is to obvious to figure out!

It's sad that the actual season is what could possibly be ruining the recruiting progress. So much promise yet so much fail. For whatever reason Borges is resigned to slamming Fitz into negativity, having Gardner play action into doom, and running max protect that is on film and thus worthless now. Borges is a fail, everyone can see it and that includes opposing defensive coordinators. If Hoke doesn't realize this it will be a long couple of years.
