Hakeem McGary with a career high 20 points
Mitch McGary with a career high 20 points against Portland with about 9 minutes remaining in the 4Q. On ESPN.
McGary hit the Blazers with this:

Not embedding in OP. Don't hurt em Mitch.

too many in today's world want to blame someone else for their down fall
Loved Mitch at UM, but his fault he was not here

But as fans, we can absolutely say fuck the NCAA. It's a draconian punishment.

Why test a guy who was clearly never intended to play that night. Total BS and very suspicious.
I know "dead horse" but... Damn!
February 28th, 2015 at 11:29 AM ^
What really sucks is that he was only tested in the first place because we dressed him for those tournament games. And that was just a courtesy to him, of course. If he'd been in street clothes still, he would not have been tested. JB makes a nice gesture and it blows up in his face.

I just happend to have the game on in the background when McGary made the the move. I literally jumped up of the couch when I saw it. I'm glad he is doing so well, but part of me still feels like we were cheated by only getting a short run with Mitch. That probably is just sour grapes but he really is playing well in limited time.
February 28th, 2015 at 8:02 AM ^
Sad for MBB in 2014-15 but happy for Mitch that things are working out for him in the NBA. Mitch was drafted by a winning team and whatever he lost by not being a lottery pick will be made up for when his rookie contract expires.
February 28th, 2015 at 8:36 AM ^
I love that he doesn't even watch to make sure it goes in. He knows it's good and sprints back on defense.
February 28th, 2015 at 10:26 AM ^
Look closely at how Westbrook celebrates McGary plays even when he's on the bench. You can tell he really likes Mitch and appreciates the intensity and energy he brings.
OKC is quickly becoming must-see TV for me.

Blazers are getting back in to this game, put McGary back in!
February 28th, 2015 at 12:54 AM ^
He should be out there.
Watching this right now they're down 2 with <2 minutes to go. He's got 20. I watched them lose last night too when Westbrook was a man alone. Put Mitch in dude. I don't think Scott Brooks is very good. He got to the finals with Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden. Wow?
February 28th, 2015 at 1:01 AM ^
I mean I kind of get it as the Blazers are playing small with Aldridge, and no other big men, so the Thunder did the same (Ibaka being the big)...to me that just sounds like McGary would have dominated whoever was defending him though.
February 28th, 2015 at 1:04 AM ^
Scott Brooks is not a very good coach though... you have 2 players who are at an elite level and good pieces around them, they have under-achieved
February 28th, 2015 at 2:06 AM ^
Scott Brooks sucks. Putting Roberson in was much worse than leaving McGary out though, I think. Mitch was gassed and PDX got a layup parade when he was trying to come out on the pick-and-roll. Small-ball was the right call.

Comes off the bench but it's eerie how efficient he is. Westbrook loves him on the pick and roll, not surprising since he was a pro at it here at Michigan so... yep.

So... anyone else think that Russell Westbrook is going to win the MVP this year?
It's unreal how much his game has taken off this year.

We all know LeBron is the MVP. He's clearly the best player; he makes any team a contender instantly. He defends all five positions. If you had a fantasy draft of all NBA players, and you didn't take LeBron number one, you'd be insane. He's having a perfectly fine year for him and he deserves another award.
Don't get me started on that MVP Rose stole from James, either.

February 28th, 2015 at 12:08 PM ^
I also think Shaq was robbed of at least a couple MVPs during his time as the clearly most dominant player in the NBA.
I guess there is a history of this sort of thing, for as long as I've been following the league. The greatest players of each generation have all been denied the proper number of MVP awards for some reason or other. But we can stop this madness now! Give that thing to LeBron.
February 28th, 2015 at 1:45 AM ^
Yes esp if Durant remains injured. Curry is "hurt" by the fact that his team is full of talent. Personally I think Harden should win because he carries the biggest burden of any of the contending teams.

Harden shouldn't win because defense is part of the NBA too, and most agree he plays it badly. It should be LeBron, but I could tolerate Westrbook or Curry. Harden winning would legitimately anger me.

No I don't see Houston play that often, I admit, but I do probably see them a few times a year in the regular season and I watch playoff games. I don't really put a lot of stock in "defensive win shares". But if you like stats/analysis kinds of things, I give you this --
http://regressing.deadspin.com/chart-of-james-hardens-defense-looks-jus…

with a statistical analysis of last year.
WTF gives, man?
February 28th, 2015 at 6:26 PM ^
So since the playoffs haven't started this year that pretty much means you've watched him play less than 5 times in his 58 games this year. Then you go on to post an article about last year's stats. No one is arguing what he's done in the past, I'm talking about what he's doing right now. Feel free to research not only how much he's improved on defense, but that he's actually good on defense and one of the main reasons the Rockets are currently the #3 seed in the West despite playing in by far the toughest division in the NBA, and without their premiere paint/rim protector for going on half the season now.

This hurts. Coulda been great this year.
February 28th, 2015 at 1:56 AM ^
Well, assuming everything else would have stayed the same with players leaving and getting injured, they still would have been nowhere near great, but they definitely would be much better and it would have been a lot of fun seeing him make that play for us instead of OKC.
February 28th, 2015 at 1:05 AM ^
OMG... THEY FOULED HIM ON THE 3?!?!?!?! LOLOL HHAHAHAHAHHA
February 28th, 2015 at 1:08 AM ^
Damn OKC needs KD back... Westbrook is keeping them afloat though with his insane play.
WIth KD, OKC is probably the deepest team in the west outside of maybe SA if they can get their shit together.
February 28th, 2015 at 1:27 AM ^
OKC is doing pretty damn good, but they need Durant back. Both these games (last night and tonight) are wins with Durant in the lineup.
February 28th, 2015 at 7:52 AM ^
KD not coming back. He has moved on to a new career as Kevin Durant, Lawyer for the People - The Law Offices of Kevin Durant & Associates.

Fuck you NCAA. McGary should have been doing that for us this season!
Who knows, maybe we would have been a solid team with Big Puppy back...
