Had the honor of meeting Denard Robinson

Submitted by MGoCooper on

My wife and I were flying out of Detroit to Vegas on June 23rd for my brothers wedding. We were heading to our terminal, and walking past a row of seats. As we were about to sit down, I thought to myself "I think the guy I just saw sitting down is Denard Robinson". I turned around and sure enough it was Denard Robinson sitting there. I looked over to my wife and told her what I just realized. She, from 2 solid years of me going on and on about Michigan Football knew exactly who it was. She grabbed our camera, and followed me over to him. His flight to Ft. Lauderdale had been delayed 4 hours, so I expected him to be in a bad mood. Nervously I walked up to him, and like a dumb ass, asked him "Are y-y-you , Denard Robinson?". To my surprise, he was super cool about it, and really a nice guy. He said "yeah, what's up man, how are you?". Being so dumbstruck in actually meeting him, I said not much at all, just heading to Vegas for a wedding.

I asked him if summer ball was going good, and how they were looking. He said everything was going great. The next thing I asked, I'll probably regret and kick myself over for some time. I didn't ask about Coach Hoke, or about the Notre Dame game, I said "we have an awesome recruiting class going on right now". It was the only thing that came to my mind, but being the awesome guy he is, he smiled and said "Yeah, lots of talent coming in". My wife saved the day, and walked up and asked if we could get a picture. He again smiled and said sure, and actually put his arm around my shoulder and was so genuine and cool about it. My wife says I smiled bigger for that picture than any thing we took at the wedding. He and a couple guys were going to head to get dinner, because all the places in the airport were closing. He asked my wife and I if we wanted to go, and f**k all we couldn't, our plane was taking off in like 20 minutes.

I just wanted to let everyone know how cool a guy he is, and how genuinely nice he was. We can be really proud of the great people UM is sending out into the world.

Listen, I've never heard a story about Denard that rubbed me the wrong way.

While we're on the topic, I was around these guys and I was listening to them tell this story about their encounter with Denard. Well, apparently they were messing around out someplace, I don't know where, but wherever it was, they were a level above him and messing just generally with people below them. So they were doing that and Denard walks below them and then he sees what they're doing and calls out to them. Immediately, they bolt. Well, Denard decides he's gonna chase them so he makes it up the stairs and they run back to their dorm, he follows. They get to their room and he shows up at the door and they're freaking out thinking he's gonna lay into them or give them a piece of his mind or mess with them somehow. Apparently, he just came in and smiled and joked with them about it and then they all went on their way.

Some people are just good people. I think Denard likes the attention, but he handles it with so much grace that it's astounding. Truly a class person.

Upload the picture to a photobucket(or other photo site) then use the URL to post the image here. I'm sure that's the type of pic you'll want to use in many places anyways.

I bet you were like a little kid in a candy shop when you realized it truly was him.  I'm sure you were nervous walking up to him.  That would be the ultimate surprise!

Not to steal your thunder, but I also got to meet him. It was last summer and my friend taylor took me on a tour of schembechler hall. As we went up to the video room for the defense, Denard Robinson was in the door. Taylor introduced us and he gave me a hug. Taylor then introduced my cousin, who i was with, as the Michigan State fan. Denard stopped himself from hugging my cousin then with a big smile he went, "just playin" and continued to hug my cousin. It was by far the coolest and nicest thing I have ever seen. Denard decided to keep hanging out with taylor my cousin and I for a little while longer and he was just so funny. He is truly a great guy and I am so happy he is a part of this team!

The more I hear about Denard, the better the stories are about how he represents all that is good about Michigan football and the university. What a great guy!

Every single story about him makes me like him more. Shane Morris has an awful lot to live up to in terms of awesome Michigan QB's.

Denard played a game on my computer at the Union once, and it was hilarious. Fun, caring, and extremely nice guy.

"He asked my wife and I if we wanted to go, and f**k all we couldn't, our plane was taking off in like 20 minutes."

The way that line formats at 1280x720 caused me to overlook the comma after "go" and I was very concerned for a brief second there.

A lot of people are famous for being good at something.  Denard Robinson, it seems, is also famous for being good at being famous.

great guy.  Just a genuine and personable kid.   One of the few high profile guys who exceeds  any expectations you may have.

I hope the kid has a great season and sticks it up Phil Steele's ass.

it's just like walking up to a hot chick and introducing yourself.  You should have done a couple shots and worked up some false courage to loosen up a bit.

I met Denard at the spring game in '09. He was a visitor to the game along with some other in-coming freshmen. He walked by me and no one else noticed him. I saw the Pahokee varsity jacket and the name Denard stitched on the chest. As he walked by me, I really didn't think about it, I knew he was a signee but didn't really get that excited. Then, without thinking I called his name, he turned around and said, "What's up?" I walked up to him and handed him my football and asked him for an autograph. He signed it next to Desmond's signature. Hopefully by the end of Denards college career, that football will have two Heisman winning sigs........

Deerfield didn't have any varsity Jackets with Denard on it, so he grabbed one from Pahokee.  Its kind of like that bowling shirt I found at the salvation army with "Bill" stitched on it...  its all good.

My favorite story reflecting Denard's infiltration of Ann Arbor is this. A friend of mine of is from Germany, has a limited knowledge of american football, and walked by Denard in Nichol's Arcade. She high-fived him, he high-fived back and she was thrilled.
