Hackett Tells All: How Harbaugh Was Hired

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

Incredible interview of Jim Hackett just now on the Huge Show. Hackett told the entire story of how Harbaugh was hired. Too many highlights to list, but among them:

- The hiring process was code-named Project Unicorn.

- Harbaugh wanted to make totally sure that Hoke had been treated fairly before he’d even talk to Michigan.

- He didn’t name names, of course, but Hackett said that he was talking to several college coaches whose teams were in bowl games, and some other NFL coaches (he didn’t specify if they were head coaches or assistants).

- The day that Harbaugh and Hackett each signed the contract, Hackett couldn’t get his computer to work, so he had to take a picture of the contract on his iPhone so that he could send it to Harbaugh.

- Harbaugh wanted to make sure that Hackett was going to be sticking around as AD.

ALSO:

- A night game for Ohio State is highly unlikely; a night game for Michigan State isn’t quite as unlikely.

Incredibly honest interview. Jim MF Hackett is the anti-Brandon in every way.

It wasn’t uploaded when last I checked, but the Hackett interview should be uploaded soon at:

because of crowd control and safety issues. Don't look for one soon. His main concern with OSU is cold.

I happened to turn it on during my ride home and it was a great interview. No question off the table. He mentioned they set up a suite in Michigan Stadium with dry boards and held secret meetings there.

It doesn't sound like Hackett will be leaving soon but also won't likely sign a long term contract. He said the job would lose some of the excitement if there was a long term agreement.

He said he wished he had two years to work with Hoke and teach him about management and hiring the right people. He seemed to imply he felt Hoke was qualified but that it was the wrong mix of assisitants. He felt within a two year period, Hoke would have been on the right track but he realized he didn't have that long.

Lets get it right, first you called it global cooling (1970s) and told everyone their would be an ice age. Then it got warmer so you said, NO, it's global warming!!!! (1980s and early 1990s) Then the earth didn't actually warm for 17 or 18 years, and now its Climate Change...(2000s)

I guess if the weather doesn't cooperate with the money making scheme, just change the name!

Not sure if you're serious, but the "global cooling" theory didn't actually have much credibility in the scientific community:

Also, each decade for the last several decades has been warmer than the decade before:

I'm not a scientist and I don't pretend to understand the science (I avoided that stuff in college), but your claims (if you are being serious) are simply false.

now Im not a denier and I definitely think that corporations are tearing this planet out from underneath all of us in the name of the almighty dollar, but there is no denying Al Gore has a stake in a number of "green" companies and stands to make a metric fuckton of money out of this.

Just like no one gave a shit about drinking and driving until there was enough money behind MADD to make politicians nervous, so it will be here. The golden rule is whoever has the money (or stands to make the most) makes the rules, or is at least keenly interested in how they're worded when they are made.

The system is bought and paid for, and we're all screwed.

Love it! I know I felt like we were pursuing this magical mythical creature in going after Harbaugh, especially with all of the haters saying he wouldn't leave the NFL, but that's part of what made this coaching search so much fun. Checking this blog during Harbaughmania was so much fun!
