Outstanding.
October 13th, 2016 at 10:41 PM ^
Screw that. We should play them every year until we fix this.
This insult shall not stand.
October 13th, 2016 at 9:42 PM ^
found Jim Tomsula's account!
October 13th, 2016 at 10:12 PM ^
Obligatory....
If only he could have concentrated this well on the field, he still might be hc.
October 14th, 2016 at 6:53 AM ^
But really, who downvoted this?
October 13th, 2016 at 9:10 PM ^
lol. Minimum of 500 games.....really?
We've played 500 games in The Big House.

"We've"
October 13th, 2016 at 9:11 PM ^
when they play 500 more games.
October 13th, 2016 at 11:29 PM ^
Update me when they stop playing in a fake football division.
This is non-news.
October 14th, 2016 at 11:53 AM ^
"Winningest program" means the most wins. Maybe the OP should say "Highest winning percentage."
October 14th, 2016 at 4:02 PM ^
Wrong again, little man.
October 13th, 2016 at 9:12 PM ^
When they play teams I've heard of
October 13th, 2016 at 9:15 PM ^
Or when they stop beating up the elementary school kids and jump to FCS.

Ignorant. Not surprised.
October 13th, 2016 at 10:06 PM ^
I used to think they should jump but there's some good reasons for staying in DII - including a lot of DII rivals and not many FCS teams close by. Plus the fact that they'd have to move every sport to DI which is no small task just for football
October 13th, 2016 at 10:12 PM ^
I think their reasoning is sound. D1 is expensive and GVSU isn't in a position to exploit the additional revenues D1 teams can get.
I have no problem with GVSU temporarily holding the all-time-all-divisions winnng percentage lead. Gives the M team something to shoot for.
October 14th, 2016 at 10:50 AM ^
It has also really helped GVSU transition from a commuter school for Grand Rapids area kids into a full on residential school and one of the better master's level universities in the Midwest. Sports play a big role in recruitment and being the big fish in the small pond has tangible benefits for them.
October 14th, 2016 at 12:30 PM ^
grumbler - I think M has ALOT more things to shoot for then overtaking GVSU in anything.
Harbaugh and the team don't know about this and they don't care about this. GVSU will never be mentioned by anyone associated with the football team
IMO
October 13th, 2016 at 11:12 PM ^
This from the guy who beats his chest because Michigan killed a bunch of schools with players just discovering what the game of football was at the turn of the century. What a pathetic creep.
October 14th, 2016 at 1:06 AM ^
Yeah I hate it when people totally overreact to something someone says on a sports blog and respond with an unreasonable amount of anger.

Most of the teams GVSU beats are probably still better than Rutgers.
October 13th, 2016 at 9:18 PM ^
Yes, being in the GLIAC is good for your winning percentage. Though I am sure that Hillsdale and Ohio Dominican are really strong programs. Not to mention the mighty University of Findlay.
October 13th, 2016 at 9:40 PM ^
Can't blame them for winning in the conference that they're in. They've got 4 national championships in 6 championship game appearances since 2000, so they've been playing (and beating) good teams as well.
October 13th, 2016 at 9:44 PM ^
GVSU should've moved up to FCS a decade ago. They deserve the criticism they get.
NDSU moved up. CMU moved up. The list goes on.
October 13th, 2016 at 9:46 PM ^
You have no idea what you're talking about.
October 13th, 2016 at 10:46 PM ^
And I'm not a default WD hater.
October 13th, 2016 at 10:02 PM ^
Moving to FCS makes zero sense for GVSU. They receive a low amount of state funding compared to other schools, and would not be able to double the athletic budget (which would be needed to make the move) without significant tuition raises. There are no other fcs schools in Michigan, travel would not be ideal. And remember you can't just play FCS in football, it means every other sport needs to be d1. Not happening any time soon, and certainly shouldn't have happened 10 years ago as you suggest.
October 14th, 2016 at 7:30 AM ^
This. I'm not a WD hater, like many are, but you are wrong on this one.
October 14th, 2016 at 9:58 AM ^
GVSU is changing the entire landscape of downtown GR west of the Grand, and there is still plenty of room for further expansion. They definitely have the market to succeed as a small D1 school, and I would have to think state funding would see an increase as a D1 school. Also factor in the 2-4 million they could make from getting whooped by a few power 5s year.
Although I am probably just hopeful of a downtown GR with a D1 football stadium and fun tailgates...
October 14th, 2016 at 11:32 AM ^
Personally, I've advocated for the State to step in with the directional Michigan 1A schools, and make them drop to 1AA, those 3 schools, then add Wayne State, GVSU, SVSU, Ferris St and perhaps a couple of those Ohio/Indiana 1A schools that have budget issues, and you have a FCS conference. Decent travel costs, lower expenses for the directional schools. Win-win.
Big Ten deciding no 1AA games puts a crimp in the revenue stream a little, but it's still a sound idea.
October 14th, 2016 at 4:07 PM ^
Western and Central are totally legit FCS schools. WMU is ranked in the top 10 right now. Central has a mini-rivalry with MSU.
EMU would probably have dropped down if there were any FCS schools around, but since everyone they play is in the MAC they might as well hang around until they're kicked out. If they do get the boot, they'll drop the program.
October 13th, 2016 at 10:17 PM ^
You shouldn't moved away from the dogmatic uninformed statements a decade ago. You deserve the criticism you get.
My twelve-year-old nephew moved on. My thirteen-year-old nighbor's girl moved on. The list goes on.
(See how obnoxious and pretentious such statements sound?)
October 13th, 2016 at 10:21 PM ^
You have a 13 year old neighbor who has a girl?
October 15th, 2016 at 12:19 AM ^
Calm down, dude. It's not like even GVSU is talking shit about Michigan. So there's a program at a different level with a bunch of wins. Why does that bother you?
October 13th, 2016 at 9:47 PM ^
Hey.. the University of Findlay is a good school. You can walk across it in under five minutes, but it's a good school.
October 14th, 2016 at 9:52 AM ^
Findlay = 390 Acres
I am sensing a faulty line of logic.
October 14th, 2016 at 11:15 AM ^
Main campus is 70 some acres, but that's including the sports facilities that are in reality off campus as well.
October 13th, 2016 at 9:50 PM ^
The GLIAC is actually a strong conference in D2 football.
October 13th, 2016 at 10:10 PM ^
Look, I have seen several GVSU alums on my facebook feed posting this crap about having a higher winning percentage. Uniformly, they all are MSU fans as well, so I show them no mercy.
October 13th, 2016 at 10:22 PM ^
Most of my college friends are Michigan fans. We're out there.
