Groupon for MSU - M at Joe Louis Arena
As the subject line says, there's a Groupon for a ticket and t-shirt for $18 for the Jan 20 game at the Joe. Upper level only.

I thought it was saying something along the lines of "Groupon for msu" and was thinking, WOW they're selling their education at a discount nowadays, huh?

Yes, which is unfortunate. Summer is filled with shitty baseball. Thankfully, I like golf.

Once the Red Wings are done it becomes a sports deadzone for me until football starts back up.

January 30th is the day I will be seeing Audien spin at Liquid in Cleveland. I'm very excited. Two weeks later, I will be in Pittsburgh seeing Above & Beyond.

I know the Joe is something of a tradtion, but I don't know why. Usually it's half full at best. Just give the ticket holders (M or MSU) another home game.

I'd use it as an excuse to head down and enjoy a trip to Lafayette Coney Island.

If you're willing to go away a bit from the Joe (because it is closer to Comerica really), the Bucharest Grill comes highly recommended as well. Of course, at certain times of the day, lines tend to be an issue. The shawarma (I probably butchered that - sorry) is superb, in my opinion, and if you have time, worth the wait.

Bucharest Grill: seconded (heartily)
Worth the wait.

It's gonna be great when they start playing these games at the new arena. A lot of the eateries will be within walking distance and you can use the M-1 streetcar down Woodward.

I hate it as well, but I have been told that players love it--especially the players who grew up in southeast Michigan. If it gives Michigan an advantage over other neighboring schools in recruiting, I'm okay with giving up one home game every 2 years. Once the new arena opens, it might prove to be a better atmosphere than in that sad, sterile arena they have now.
What I am not okay with is giving up a home game to play MSU in a gimmicky outdoor game in Chicago.

but you can't deny that the players love the outdoor game as well.

If you gave them a choice between playing this one game in Yost or at Soldier Field, I don't think I know what they would choose. Hopefully somebody asks them about that.
I agree that the occasional outdoor game is fun for the players, but do we really need to average 1 per year, as we have over the last 5 years or so? That's an awful lot, and is threatening to make it very non-special.
