This doesn't seem to encouraging considering the visit is so close to signing day. Hopefully he's just a silent commit looking to take a free visit
Grimes Sets Up Official to Mississippi
"Hopefully he's just a silent commit looking to take a free visit"
By jove, you may be on to something!
mmmm love me some silent commits
you will not snake oil MICHIGAN
I don't think so. It's more like "hostesses" and vegetable oil.
They did pry local (Largo, FL, 20 miles from USF campus) product Dexter McCluster away from USF after he had been "committed" for about five months. They definitely know something about "southern hospitality."
with all of the new recruits on the radar Michigan decided it did not want to wait on a guy who hadn't made his decision public yet (pure speculation on my part)?
i.e., it is easier for Michigan to change its mind about someone who isn't 'officially' on board as a verbal already. A lot less of a PR hit than, say, deciding not to return Drew Dileo's phone calls and hope he goes away.
Or perhaps it is option 3, and he was never really a silent commit at all.
Intrigue, thy name is football recruiting.
WTF Not cool. We need all the help we can get on D. Especially in the secondary. Tom do you have any insight on this?
Nothing to worry about.
He's not actually committed, people. I don't think Ole Miss is much of a threat unless Murphy also visits.
when you have the BRIAN
He's not actually committed publicly.
You can't be committed and taking visits, I've heard RR say as much on his radio show. That scholarship is open until he cancels that visit, and with all the offers out there it could get filled.
Beachum is a commit to Arkansas, but made an offical to Michigan a month ago. So you can still take visits to other places when your committed. People question your loyalty though, but I'd just go on the vists to see the surronding area strictly.
Just because Beachum thinks he's committed doesn't mean the coaches see it that way. The coaches have limited spaces and if a player starts to take visits then they have to asses the risk of holding a scholarship for said player versus taking a commitment from another player. I know Rodriguez doesn't consider a player taking visits committed and I agree. As limited as they are with scholarships and needing quality depth, there is a chance that the scholarship isn't available for Grimes when he's ready to sign his LOI. He might really want to come here but being "committed" to something is a lot more than words and I am pretty those words change when he's talking to Houston Nutt.
You're missing his point. He means (and RR meant) that if you are taking visits, you're not really committed. Being a verbal commit is not an official status and it is in no way binding. Another way of putting it, the school is under no obligation to keep your spot, and if they don't consider you committed, they may well give your spot to someone else. They are not required to accept your letter of intent.
It strikes me as odd that of all the places he might go for a free visit, he would choose Oxford, Mississippi.
Why? It's a beautiful campus with beautiful girls.
1 word, Sundresses.
the gameday experience is supposed to be pretty top-notch in Oxford (e.g. The Grove, Southern Belles, etc.)
Edit: Of course, I just realized that he would be visiting during the off-season and would not get to experience a "gameday" atmosphere...unless Lane Kiffin is handling the recruiting at Ole Miss now. ZING!
is pretty decent, not on the level of Michigan to be sure, but still a middle of the pack SEC team
Good point. Remind me again where we finished in the Big Ten this year?
Not only sundresses, but nice tanned, slim bodies in bikinis. Makes me wanna go down south for the winter
Is it usually that warm in Northern Mississippi in January?
Grimes is from Florida.
I was just thinking the same thing. I was also thinking you need it to spell hotdog and homework.
Unless something dubiou$ goes down, Grimes and Murphy are both Blue, and their recruitment ended a month ago.
He could have picked somewhere better then Mississippi.
Everyone I know who's been to Oxford has told me it's incredible.
