Rivals article. ( I apologize to those who hate people passing along rivals info..)

But to sum up, the analyst believes GRIII is one of the most likely players to move into 5 star status. A basketball recruiting class with two 5star players and a 4star shooter, that has to make you smile.

(IMO McGary will drop a bit from #3 player in the country, but will likely keep all 5 stars due to the potential the kid has.)

His Dudeness

McGary had a rough go on national tv the other night from what I hear.

Kid he was guarding was a beast, but still... #3 in the country should be able to handle. Maybe he was tired?

The dude McGary was guarding was the No. 2 junior in the nation. He was 6-11 with a flat top and a nasty inside-outside game. Really wiry and athletic, and could really get up. McGary didn't seem to get much run, and hence, wasn't really into the flow of the game. Might have been foul trouble. Even Jordan and Kobe have bad games, though. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

was beasting everyone on the floor. The only time Brewster was able to pull ahead is when the kid had 4 fouls and sat on the bench. Even the announcers were saying this kid is by far one of the best players in the country, Junior or not. Straight stud. Mitch had a bad practice so that's why coach didn't start him, but he was in the game on first dead ball. The guy really gave Mitch problems 1-11 shooting, but was solid on the line 7-8. This I think was great for him to have to play against a guy of this caliber, can only make him better down the road.

Webb offered his commentary on the radio the other day on his showing. He said that he saw McGary work the kid over pretty good on the AAU curcuit and to not be alarmed. He is the focal point of the offense on his AAU team while at Brewster, he is basically playing on a college ready team and can go quite a few posessions in a row without even seeing the ball.

He was still pretty active on defense. He had 12 boards, and a few blocks when I had tuned in. I wasn't playing all that close attention though.

Was he guarding Noel or Niang the other night? I missed the game but both of those guys are studs in their own right. Niang is one of the biggest overachievers out there in terms what he he does with his athleticism.

Get that man his 5th star.   GRIII is tearing it up.  I'm so very excited to see him on the court next year.   His pure athleticism will help us overcome the traumatic loss of Novak's true grit.

Izzo gets some great players but seems he isn't really developing them of late. It's nice to see JB recruiting at a high level (without state faltering a la Ellerbe) and developing his players. It bodes well for our future. As for McGary in that tv game, his team doesn't seem to run any offense through him. If he scores, it's because he grabbed a board and put it back in.

I agree with you whole heartedly dahblue. I don't think the guards on McGary's team had any assists. They were looking to get their points at all costs. It looked like they won that game and I'm guessing most all their games just because of superior athletes making plays. When it was close at the end the coach called timeouts and went right into McGary on the blocks. He knew who to work through at the end...plus as was stated above, the announcers made sure to point out that when McGary went against the kid in the AAU season and the game against him earlier in the season he did fine. So no worries it was just an off game.

No, McGary is on the list.

The distribution of that list is a little crazy.  Cedar Rapids, IA has more nominees than the entire state of Ohio.  And it's not just one crazy-good school in Cedar Rapids, either.

Also, I counted at least three high schools with 4 nominees, which is nuts, and super-nuts is Oak Hill which had 6 nominees.  So they have a guy who starts games on the pine who is a McDonald's All-American nominee.  Nuts.

I'm not too worried about McGary, he didn't have a bad game, he just didn't have a hugely productive one, there's a difference.  It's not like he got a ton of touches and blew it, he just didn't get the ball much on offense.  Maybe it's because he was sick, maybe it's because Brewster likes to run the O through their guards (who are pretty good) or maybe the coach decided he wanted to give his other players some publicity on national TV since McGary already has all the accolades.

Either way, there is enough on McGary to show he's a great talent and will be a huge pick up.  The news on GRIII moving on up is great news too - we should have a crazy good team in a year or two.

No doubt our team this year is pretty good.

But subtract Douglass and Novak (not good at all, but bare with me) and add it McGary, GRIII, Stauskas, a healthy Horford with another year of beef, non-freshman Burke, and just an extra year of polish on guys like THJr, Smotricz and Morgan and we've got a serious Big Ten title and Final Four contending squad.
