Greg Skrepenak facing 33 to 44 months in jail

Former Michigan great olineman Greg Skrepenak is facing some jail time for taking money on the side for a tax program. For those of you who don't remember Skrep he was an All American lineman at Michigan and played in the NFL, Skrep owns a bar in the Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton area...Yes the office. He was also elected to be a county commissioner a few years ago and the area is under investigation stemming from a county judge scandal, he stepped down from his job last week. It is really sad that a Michigan man got caught up with all the crap happing in the area I grew up in, most of my family still lives there and I had the pleasure of meeting Skrep a few times and we talked about UofM. Not many of us NEPA(NorthEasternPA) people get the honor of returning home as Michigan men/women. Since Rocket Ismail went to my high school Skrep was the other star from our area.To add Ron Powlus was as well but he is not a star. Not sure what happen to the millions he made in the NFL but I guess he blew it if he is taking kick backs on the side. http://www.timesleader.com/news/Skrepenak-charged-with-taking-5000-brib…

that just because somebody already has money, that they are above greed. The largest financial scandals were caused by people who were already fabulously wealthy trying to get even more fabulously wealthy. My point is that a lot of theft/fraud is perpetrated by people who don't even need the money. In fact, in monetary terms, most of it is done by people who are already wealthy.

First off, these are just accusations and he's not guilty yet, I do not believe. However, if Skrepanek is found guilty, let's keep things like this in mind the next time anyone decides to throw stones at the houses in Southern California, Columbus and East Lansing. Every program has participants or alumni who run afoul of the law.

You can't compare one alumnus taking a bribe to over fifteen percent of a team's scholarship players participating in a gang raid of a frat house and slapping women around. It isn't even close. I knew somebody would post the obligatory "glass house" comment regarding this story, but it doesn't wash. I will continue to "throw stones" at anyone who I feel deserves it. There are dirty programs like OSU, thug programs like MSU, and clean programs with isloated incidents like UM. "Glass houses" are not created equal, and I will never confuse isolated incidents with program-wide non-compliance.

You spend too much time concocting these "the world hates Michigan" theories. Easy on the cool jets. Really, you can't possibly have any sort of comparative basis that enables you to say that OSU or USC are dirty programs. Maybe they are, but maybe they aren't, or maybe every program in the NCAA is "dirty." Just, you know, take a deep breath. I'm speculating here, but getting all worked up about "thug" programs probably isn't good for your blood pressure.

he was a mountain of a man at the time he played. however, if guilty, he shows how truly small he is. i really hope they throw the book at this guy. i'm sick and tired of politicians, and other people in positions of trust, taking advantage of their constituants. the courts need to start making examples of this to deter actions in the future. madoff was a good start. skrep could be next.

If I remember correctly from Bo's Lasting Impressions (in Chicago for the holiday my copy not handy) there is a mention of Michael Smith. http://www.pub.umich.edu/daily/1998/oct/10-16-98/news/news5.html Skrepenak will be humiliated and punished accordingly and hopefully welcomed back with open arms first and foremost by his Michigan family. Note to self: Bo's Lasting Impressions first, Bible second as they can be found in any hotel.
