Let it be known from this day forth on MGoBoard.
Greg Mattison is to never be called Gerg Mattison.
May the name die forever with the new regime.

that I drank so much during the season and days after that I already forgot who GERG was.
Lucky.
MERG!
No?....I'll run with it.
You're probably going to get a +1 from me everytime I see you post just for that line in your signature. Can't wait for Archer to be on again.
Oh, and on topic, I wonder what GERG and his fantastic hair/inability to coach a defense will be up to next season...
Greg "mothafuckin' gatling gun" Mattison
Greg "Mothafuckin' gatling gun" Mattison holding a gatling gun, to symbolize how we are about to be mowing down offenses. Bitches. A gif would be ideal, but I'm not picky.
I'll call him GOD if he gets us in the top 50 in scoring defense.
Still need a D-line coach, right? And a QB coach?
Type carefully my friends.
I'll call only one God, and pray He blesses Greg and Michigan. Go Blue(prayer?)!!
I may be in the minority but I hope the GERG nickname stays and GREG adopts it. GERG just adds a laugh into everyones day.
apparently not
Guess I am in the minority. I am a fearless rebellion though GERG will live on.
although it's blatantly making fun of the unfortunate beaver-loving bearer of the name. Mattison will receive my Greg.
My GERG laughs were only to ease the pain and are no longer necessary.
The GERG nickname can live on - if it's in reference to Greg Robinson. Not the current Greg who is DC.
He's all business!
You got my vote
That is it!
how about just "G."
no explanation needed.
We need to say, "Look at that GD defense!"
Then everyone could get rattled because of the possible flagrant cussing...with that said...ain't nothin but a g thang baby.
Coach the Ravens?
NEVERMORE.
big difference
So I'm relatively new to the site...can someone please fill me in on how the name GERG originated?
Back when he was at Syracuse, the blog EDSBS wrote an article on him and accidentally typed "Gerg" instead of "Greg," then decided it seemed somehow appropriate for him. I forgot how it ended up in all caps.
anagrams to "Megaton Grits".
I'm sold.
From now on, I shall call him this.
I LIKE it.
Megatron Stig
As a fan of both Transformers and Top Gear, I need no further proof that Coach Mattison is our guy.
The top-5 OSU teams that were largely shut down by his defenses in '95 and '96 would agree.
Beat by Undefeated Dream Season 1992 by a few minutes. That doesn't mean I don't still love it.
I'm so excited about this new defensive staff... With Hoke and Mattison maybe there's hope to resurrect Big Will... I mean come on, the guy is 6'5 300 pounds
I will sure miss his hair. Somebody should photoshop his hair on Mattison.
That is epic. +1 to you sir.
GMAT this rug asap. I don't know, but he just looks distinguished in that hair. I'm talking the President of the United States distinguished (almost as prestigeous a position as the DC of the UM Wolverines, but not quite).
I just checked Greg's wikipedia page, and it already says he's our DC. Wow people are quick to that sort of thing.
he no longer has a page on the Ravens website
May GERG RIP. Onward and upward. No more amazingly uncovered receivers multiple times per game on the same play. No more stuffed beaver petting. No more "I have no idea what to do" looks by the DC. No more switching players around just to try something different. And no more 3-3-5.
God Bless America and M Football!
Welcome GMAT!
No more picking your nose on the sidelines.
Let's pray that he dosn't bring a stuffed raven with him.
He can bring all the stuffed animals he wants if he can get results.
Amen, although that stuffed animal thing was totally bizarre. I would love to know the inside story on that someday
Stewart Mandel- "Michigan going from Greg Robinson to Greg Mattison. Five little letters represent such a dramatic upgrade."
Gerg? Who is this person you speak of?
Gerg is a non-person. Forget his name, he never existed, nor did 2008.
If it comes down to great hair or coaching ability, in this instance I will take the coaching ability. I am gonna miss that hair though.
Six years I dealt with that clown's total and complete epic fail. Four years I watched him take our proud football program at Syracuse and run it into the ground, and somehow, against all logic, parlay it into a coaching job at Michigan where he continued his epic fail at the winningest program in college football.
You may not find another human being that is happier to see him not associated with Syracuse or Michigan anymore.
I will miss nothing about him, I will only celebrate that it is morning in Syracuse and Ann Arbor again.
