Video's a no-go for me, I guess I'll have to wait for the youtube
January 21st, 2011 at 10:03 AM ^
Thanks. I could see it in my post but when I saved the video wasn't there. Then when I went to edit it was there again.

every now and again. I have always attributed it to my not being Boyz n da Pahokee.

He said what i wanted to hear...fundamentals.
Lets get back to them on both sides of the ball. I miss them. kthxbai
January 21st, 2011 at 10:06 AM ^
What fundamentals were largely missing on the offensive side of the ball?
January 21st, 2011 at 10:08 AM ^
catching the ball.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:13 AM ^
Looking at the most recent offensive UFR, catching the ball really wasn't a huge issue.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:22 AM ^
Roundtree especially got a case of the dropsies as the season went along. Many were key too as they were a) wide open and b) on 3rd or 4th downs.
January 21st, 2011 at 12:49 PM ^
Not to mention those two or three times where his dropped passes that were sure first downs miraculously resulted in a tip + interception combo. Not blaming Roundtree for those picks...but if he'd just caught the ball on the play before...
January 21st, 2011 at 1:04 PM ^
Basically the whole tsio game.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:44 AM ^
this means you. How about a little more time with the jugs machine and a little less on twitter?
January 21st, 2011 at 12:21 PM ^
how about a little more go fuck yourself and a little less asinine commentary?
January 21st, 2011 at 1:52 PM ^
...and H(ing)OTTDB too.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:12 AM ^
... usually right after the aforementioned not catching of the ball.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:18 AM ^
29 Turnovers did lead the Big 10. That is certainly something that needs to be fixed.
January 21st, 2011 at 11:59 AM ^
big played missed...turnover.
ugh...i thought this recurring trauma had finally been successfully repressed.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:34 AM ^
Blocking with 6' 6" 320lb fucking road graders!
January 21st, 2011 at 11:27 AM ^
Catching the ball, holding the ball... being able to run the ball consistently with anyone not named Robinson.
Don't get me wrong - I liked the RR offense. But to state that there wasn't room for significant fundamental improvement is just not accurate - IMO.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:06 AM ^
Fundamentals have been missing for 3 years now. It will certainly be fun to watch a well coached D tearing up the league. For all the nay sayers out there, there is a ton of talent on this team, on both sides of the ball. That talent has not been tapped appropriately yet, but now that Hokemania is here, we will see how good this team really is.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:06 AM ^
........This time the cupboard isn't bare.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:09 AM ^
Exactly, this team has potential up the wazooo. This is going to be FUN. FInally Michigan Football the way it is suppose to be played. Hard nosed D, with a tough downhill running game, and you can throw in some DROb and I smell Victory.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:07 AM ^
He talks about watching game film from last year to see what they have on defense, but is there also film of practices from last year for the new staff to watch? Seems like that would be pretty helpful, since probably only half the players on the team ever saw the field last year.
January 21st, 2011 at 11:25 AM ^
thought about trying to find old practice video. You should run right over and let them know what they are missing out on.
January 21st, 2011 at 3:06 PM ^
If you read my post, you'd have seen that I was asking if practices are filmed, because I don't know. Thanks for the prickish answer though.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:09 AM ^
I liked the part where he said that they weren't going to be focusing on fundamentals, that they would be passive and that it wasn't important to be tough, focused, committed, or even to think that football is a team sport.
Note: I have not watched the video.

"We WILL be a swarming defense no matter how we line up"
I likey!
January 21st, 2011 at 10:10 AM ^
I liked Mattison stressing that he wants the players to take ownership of the defense, and to realize that it's THEIR defense, not his. Should instill pride, commitment and teamwork.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:19 AM ^
I'm real excited to see that Mattison is going to instill that in the Michigan defense. It's about time the players take some ownership of the defense. The defense will unite as a whole unit and maybe we will get a little better leadership out of the seniors.
January 21st, 2011 at 12:17 PM ^
I'm skeptical he can achieve this without a stuffed beaver.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:20 AM ^
Anybody else get all warm and fuzzy when watching this video?
January 21st, 2011 at 10:30 AM ^
... attack and react.
GO!
A football coach straight from central casting, who doesn't need to channel Lombardi.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:41 AM ^
he was sporting flat bill caps 10 years before the gangstas even thought of it.
January 21st, 2011 at 11:11 AM ^
He wasn't cool enough to leave all those gold stickers on the bill so everyone could see the size of the hat and so forth.
January 21st, 2011 at 11:10 AM ^
Great point! lol
Certainly ahead of the times.
Cool before it was cool.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:48 AM ^
The versions today (especially the New Era one) looks bastardized with the giant Block M.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:31 AM ^
I'm still incredibly impressed that BH was able to snag Mattison. Honestly, to ask a guy to leave a NFL job with All-World veterans to come to a rebuilding and struggling D in college is quite a sell job.
Did I see somewhere else though that Mattison's daughter lives in AA and is about to have a kid soon? Am I making that up?
January 21st, 2011 at 10:34 AM ^
That REALLY says alot about Hoke, not only as a coach but a person.
I truley believe good things are going to come from this.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:37 AM ^
I heard the same about GMAT's daughter in the area. That and being very close friends help Coach Hoke. It's good to have sucessful friends. It's too bad that RR had some friends that may have held him back.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:34 AM ^
I just realized that these coaches are perfect, their hair have wings too. Selling the helmet on and off the field.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:34 AM ^
It all will start with fundamentals.
January 21st, 2011 at 11:25 AM ^
that is all...
January 21st, 2011 at 10:37 AM ^
We landed a good one, me thinks. I'm excited about the future of this defense again.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:37 AM ^
We have a defensive coordinator who .... wait for it ... GIVES INTERVIEWS.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:41 AM ^
Ugh. Again with the being bowled over by pretty words on camera in January. UVA's DC was every UVA fan's favorite assistant coach for the way he handled himself and the team during the offseason and on the Hard Knocks-esque TV show the team produced. Tough football. Aggressive football. Play with speed. Swarm the ball. All the same platitudes. Then he turned a respectable, top-one-third defense into one of the worst in the country in just one season, and he went from everyone's favorite assistant to even his most ardent defenders saying he should be given another season for continuity's sake.
So yeah, interviews are bullshit. I like Mattison for his resume, not because he talks fancy football.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:48 AM ^
shoes sparkle in the moonlight, fancy dancer.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:54 AM ^
Hear hear. I'm excited about Mattison as well, but the interview doesn't do a lot for me. Has there ever been a new defensive coordinator who DIDN'T say that they were going to have an aggressive, swarming defense?
I'm still waiting for a new DC to say "we're going to be passive at all times, and let the plays come to us."
January 21st, 2011 at 2:05 PM ^
I'm pretty sure that's what GERG said.
