Greg Mattison Recruiting

Submitted by Jaqen H'ghar on

Where has Greg Mattison been on the recruiting trail? He was easily one of our best recruiters under Hoke and I'm sure he played an integral part in bringing in Rashan Gary. Just haven't seen or heard much of him this year. Especially in the Aubrey Solomon recruitment. Which is strange since he would be his position coach.

I had the same question.  Strange indeed.  I would absolutely have expected to see Mattison in that photo taken at the Solomon in-home visit.  Sam Webb must have the inside scoop -- he always does. ;)

He was the primary recruiter for Corey Malone-Hatcher, Donovan Jeter, Deron Irving-Bey, James Hudson and Phil Paea. He also recruited Drew Singleton and Luiji Vilain. He was the primary recruiter for Ben Bredeson last year and one of the main recruiters for Rashan. He was one of the main recruiters for Jabrill as well.

He's still putting in a lot of great work, don't worry about this.

I noticed this as well. He has been an A+ recruiter for more than a decade. But the man is in his sixties and from the looks of it doesn't look the healthiest. Reading into this (albeit too far) I have a feeling this will be his last year coaching. I hope not, but the seemingly lack of recruiting this year by him seems telling. I could be (probably) wrong.

... but first I have to say you seem like an idiot - this is exactly how rumors start:

Maybe next time keep to what you know and leave the conjecture to those you have a bit more insight into things, yes?

What the fuck would give you the idea that he's unhealthy? He's a 67 year old man who still wakes up every day at 5 to go coach giant, athletic 20 year olds. I'm sure he has more bounce in his step than you do.

Don't take random, morbid guesses at the health of our coaching staff on message boards without a fucking doctor's note.

I'm sure it's fun for some to dump on the "older" guys, but Mattison is definitely still getting it done.  Players love him, recruits love him, and fellow coaches love and respect him greatly.  Anybody watch our D Line in 2016?  C'mon man.
