Greg Jackson video from 49ers.com

Here's a nice ten-minute video on Greg Jackson from when he was coaching the 49ers secondary.

He talks about his playing career, how he got into coaching, and his different stops at Idaho, Louisiana-Monroe, Tulane, Wisconsin, and then getting the job with Harbaugh in SF. Some highlights:

  •  felt he was able to extend the length of his NFL career by studying and understanding the game, to compensate for his diminishing physical skills
  • met Harbaugh while playing for the San Diego Chargers; that team had a lot of older players on defense who were approaching the ends of their careers, still finished first in the league that season
  • leadving Louisiana for Wisconsin was difficult, but an opportunity he couldn't pass up; describes Wisconsin as a firsts-rate organization Jackson comes across as a serious, yet very personable, down-to-Earth guy in the video.

I hate to be a wet blanket about this, but Greg Jackson is well on the wrong side of 40 and has only ever been a position coach, and except for a brief stint coaching LBs, always a DB position coach.  Maybe he's just really comfortable doing what he does best.
