Green Visits Georgia and Auburn
Looks like 2013 RB Derrick Green visited Georgia on Friday and Auburn on Saturday.
He was quoted as saying his parents both got that feeling about Auburn again. This is DG's second visit to Auburn.
There is a rumor Derrick could announce as early as this weekend as his team opens on ESPN. There hasn't been any confirmation on that rumor as he keeps telling most reporters he plans on taking his officials.
I know a quick decision was good for the Maize and Blue but after his second visit to Auburn you have to wonder if they are now leading.

Yeah, that report didn't look so promising for us.
Let's see, parental feelings, bringing parents to a distant school right after another visit...nope, can't think of any other running back recruitment scenarios that have been anything like this one.
August 20th, 2012 at 12:04 PM ^
I'm concerned about Auburn, but I don't think Georgia is really a serious contender.
August 20th, 2012 at 12:20 PM ^
I read that on the Rivals sunday night chat recap as well.
August 20th, 2012 at 12:22 PM ^
Well, I tweeted as much before the weekend even began, so unless you believe I have a time machine (which I do, but you probably won't believe it), your reading of the Sunday night chat recap is pretty irrelevant to my comment.
August 20th, 2012 at 12:30 PM ^
Did you design the time machine to fit both of your ass cheeks or do you have to purchase two tickets like you do on airplanes?
August 20th, 2012 at 12:59 PM ^
I honestly don't see the need for personal insults here.
August 20th, 2012 at 1:06 PM ^
I'm now going to add big ass cheeks to what I imagine Magnus looks like.
August 20th, 2012 at 1:34 PM ^
Compound adjectives should be hyphenated when they immediately precede the noun they are modifying.
So, assuming you meant this:
It would be: big-ass cheeks
If you meant the other, however, look out!
August 20th, 2012 at 2:38 PM ^
Did you read the thread? He means ass cheeks, that are big.
August 21st, 2012 at 11:01 PM ^
...attempt at levity. Failed?
August 20th, 2012 at 1:08 PM ^
Throw in a salad every once in a while and there wouldn't be any reason for insults. And by the way I don't think it is an insult to tell you the truth about your morbid obesity. I am trying to see you live a long and happy life of telling recruits that they suck even though you have never actually seen them in person. Help me help you.
August 20th, 2012 at 1:38 PM ^
Than weak of mind and character.
August 20th, 2012 at 1:07 PM ^
You have a lot of nerve talking to Brandon Graham and the creator of one of the better Michigan blogs like that.
August 20th, 2012 at 4:13 PM ^
Time machine? THE_KNOWLEDGE is going to be pissed when he finds out someone else has one.
August 20th, 2012 at 4:14 PM ^
This "double-click" glitch is becoming irritating.
August 20th, 2012 at 12:09 PM ^
Auburn love never works out well for us.
August 20th, 2012 at 12:56 PM ^
...and my wrath shall be upon you. NO HAWK HARRELSON.
August 20th, 2012 at 1:45 PM ^
but his catch phrases are so annoyingly bad they get stuck in your head. Kind of like the Six Flags old guy dancing song or the Seinfeld episode where "Co-stanza" got into the head of the girl who hated George.
August 20th, 2012 at 12:11 PM ^
Green doesn't mind stiff competition. Auburn and Georgia both have a quality running back committed in this class.
August 20th, 2012 at 12:14 PM ^
Yep, and Michigan has two.
August 20th, 2012 at 12:12 PM ^
His parents got a feeling because of the size of the check Auburn was offering.
August 20th, 2012 at 12:14 PM ^
Georgia is not a threat. Auburn, on the other hand, is definately not giving me that warm fuzzy feeling.
In any case, I have one cause for celebration. The season is almost here, so I can stop hanging my hopes and dreams on potential future Wolverines, and instead hang them on current Wolverines. It's as though a great weight has been lifted... until Prime Time on September 1st anyway.
August 20th, 2012 at 12:47 PM ^
Why isn't Georgia a threat?
August 20th, 2012 at 12:54 PM ^
I share the impression that Georgia isn't a threat. I don't have the quote in front of me, but Green said after his visit to Georgia that he enjoyed it but hasn't decided whether they'll move into his top six. If a school struggles to make his top six immediately after a visit, you have to think it isn't a true contender.
Then again, teenager logic is something I've studied a great deal and still haven't made sense of.
August 20th, 2012 at 1:01 PM ^
As a former teenager, I can admit that my teenage logic was quite illogical. So logically, using logic to log the logistics of teenage logic is logically illogical.
Also, am I the only one that thinks of that one Knight from Monty Python & The Holy Grail everytime I say "Logically". From the witch burning scene.
August 20th, 2012 at 6:53 PM ^
I'm either one of the few people who understood what you just said or I'm completely lost.
August 20th, 2012 at 1:12 PM ^
DEFINITELY. I've seen "definitely" incorrectly spelled "definAtely" so many damn times on the interwebs I have a pavlovian response to it now and must react, negs be damned.
August 20th, 2012 at 1:33 PM ^
It's definately one of the more difficult words to spell.
August 20th, 2012 at 2:11 PM ^
defiantly
August 20th, 2012 at 2:05 PM ^
many things are spelt differantly.
August 20th, 2012 at 12:19 PM ^
He has visited us twice already as well with an official already set. I am not denying Auburn is a threat because they are but let's just let it all play out before we concede to Auburn over a second visit.
August 20th, 2012 at 12:26 PM ^
What about Greg Bryant? Isn't he still projected to land at auburn?
August 20th, 2012 at 12:30 PM ^
It sounds like whoever commits first will get the spot, and the other will have to look elsewhere.
August 20th, 2012 at 12:48 PM ^
If Greg Bryant owes a favor to anyone here, now would be an excellent time to redeem it.
August 20th, 2012 at 1:08 PM ^
I have heard that he is also strongly considering South Carolina.
August 20th, 2012 at 12:36 PM ^
DG really loved his visit here. He held a Heisman, hung out with Shoelace, and bonded with players and fellow commits over a three-day period. We have the best OL class, a 5-star QB and (maybe) a 5-star WR in Treadwell. He even got to know Hoke on a personal level.
Until he commits elsewhere, I am gonna believe that we are at the top of his leaders list.
August 20th, 2012 at 12:40 PM ^
When Green visited for the BBQ, were his parents with him?
August 20th, 2012 at 12:52 PM ^
and it sounds like they loved it.
We'll see what happens. If we can close this class out with DG and Treadwell....oh boy!
August 20th, 2012 at 12:43 PM ^
I anxiously look forward to the day when the NCAA finds out about who is on Auburn's payroll
August 20th, 2012 at 12:57 PM ^
I'm sure it's people with only the most distant, peripheral relationships with these student-athletes imaginable. Like "father."
August 20th, 2012 at 1:06 PM ^
Why? Its already been proven (USC/UNC/Miami) that you can cheat and nothing bad will come of it. The NCAA is a ball-less organziation unless public pressure (ie PSU) forces them to lower the banhammer.
August 20th, 2012 at 1:48 PM ^
But yes I agree the NCAA is a paper tiger, PSU notwithstanding
August 20th, 2012 at 12:45 PM ^
All that talk about wanting a strong academic institution would appear to be just talk, if he signs with Auburn. Regardless, not to sound negative but until he says otherwise, I see him landing at Auburn. Something just doesn't seem on the level about all of this. It's not just the typical "oh, Auburn paid him a lot of money" stuff, it just doesn't feel right.
August 20th, 2012 at 12:58 PM ^
when recruits say they're looking for "academics" they usually mean something different than what the average fan means. Far more often than not, they mean "academic support" rather than "highest rated programs."
It's also worth noting that you can get a pretty good education at most colleges. Everyone gave Myron Rolle crap for saying he cared about academics while choosing FSU. Then he won a Rhodes Scholarship.
August 20th, 2012 at 1:05 PM ^
Comparing FSU to Auburn academically is silly. FSU is well above Auburn in any respectable education rankings. Granted, you can get a great education almost anywhere. But if I want s steak, I'm not going to Taco Bell to get it, I'm going to a steak house. And as far as I know, Michigan has wonderful academic support. Now if he's looking to glide by his time as a student athlete, then you're right, he's looking for something completely different than what Michigan is offering.
August 20th, 2012 at 1:08 PM ^
being a college football player is. I don't think it's unreasonable for a recruit to want a place that is going to make sure he stays eligible and on track for a degree. Whether that's what an institution should want as its academic mission is a separate question, but it's really tiring to hear people disparage 17 year old kids (often from impoverished backgrounds) for not recognizing the clear academic superiority of Michigan to most other schools. It just sounds petty and snobbish.
August 20th, 2012 at 1:30 PM ^
I agree with you on this. Distinguishing between the academic quality of major research universities is also something more common among those who grow up expecting to go to college than those who grow up without many family members and friends who have been. That's partly why you here "it's great academically" about so many schools that don't seem so great academically to some of us. To many people, college is college, especially when you're talking about schools with major national name recognition.
[By the way, I'm speaking generally. I know nothing about Green's background.]
August 20th, 2012 at 1:24 PM ^
I agree with almost everything you say, and if I came off as downgrading his interest in getting an education, then that is wrong of me. I do however, despise valuing something then choosing the lowest option of the thing you valued. I'm certain when I was 17, I was able to tell you when an opportunity was better one place than another. That's why it bugs me when people use the "he's only 17" argument. Kids today should know far more than I did at their age. Their access to information about these schools is 10 fold what it was in even 2000, when I graduated. Gah! Get the fuck off of my lawn!
August 20th, 2012 at 1:11 PM ^
Agreed, any major D1 program (Texas, USC, Michigan, SEC schools etc) will provide you with hella good tutoring programs, player only academic centers and the like, saying you care about academics means you dont mind taking hard classes and not Bowling 100.
August 20th, 2012 at 6:42 PM ^
Actually, being from the South (but recognizing that Alabama is a long way from Michigan), most everyone in this part of the country recognizes that Auburn is a better school academically than Florida State (but not Florida). There are lots of rankings but U.S. News & World Report lists Auburn at 82 and FSU at 101. Neither have Michigan's reputation, of course, but not many schools do. Plus, anyone with any experience with Auburn will tell you that it is a great college town and like most of the SEC they know how to put on a football game, just like Michigan.
I do think Derrick Green is going to go to Auburn. They already have an outstanding recruiting class for 2013 and there are several other players that appear to be Auburn leans. If he and one or two others commit, Auburn could wind up with as many as 6 five stars.
Just weighing in. Usually just lurking. Thanks.
