The great thing about being Bowl Eligible

Submitted by Hoken's Heroes on

is the extra 18 more practices that it allows the team to engage in! Thanks to WTKA caller for bringing that up. This should be a big help considering the NCAA santcions limiting practice time.

One other note...if UM can just HOLD ONTO THE DAMN BALL and stop turning the rock over, many of these games won't slip through UM's hand or be so close.

Just look at the incredible improvement a player like Denard made in the course of one spring practice.  Getting two offseason sessions like that is going to help a lot of players and can make a huge difference going into next season, especially considering what a young team we have.

something ive been thinking about with the extra 15 practices is we could potentially burn a few of them now instead of taking them away next season when we have a good shot at a better record and a better bowl

to take 15 minutes off of practices here and there instead of in large chunks.  Personally, I would rather have them take all the practice time they can get before the bowl and take the time next year when we are a more seasoned team.

EDIT: I meant they should take the penalties next season when we are more seasoned

Another great thing about being bowl eligible is that you don't have to eat with your hands.

/rimshot, applause, inaudible cries from a drunken heckler in back.

Maybe the best thing is that it will no longer say that we haven't been to a bowl since the 2007 season in every article that talks about Rich Rod.  Go Blue!

While the "has not been to a bowl game since..." stories will cease, it may be replaced with, "the bowl game Michigan is headed to is only the..." unless we can better our bowl selection with another win or two.

In terms of the forthcoming stories, I gag at the thought of our reward being the pepperoni, mushroom and onion bowl against the MAC champ.

Aside from the obvious benefits of the extra practices, etc. for being in a bowl game, we should want the best possible bowl and not one that the players could car pool to.

Player development will be huge, especially on defense.  And let's not forget that this UM team is only improving as the season progresses and is not your typical "meh" bowl team - they'll likely have a top-5 offense and a short-list Heisman trophy candidate at the helm.  I fully expect the bowl game to be a game where the team sends a message to next year's opposition that UM is back.

Lloyd Brady's hair has been bowl-eligible since last season, at least.  I'd have to look up more stats to see if it was eligible before that, but the fact of the matter is he's clearly used those extra practices to refine his look to be picture perfect for student-section celebrations.  His progression has been excellent, from higher rows, where he toiled in backup duty and rose to the occasion, now a starter in the first row, and the largest cult following.  His hair conditioning coach deserves a raise, as his hair's body has increased and its ability to hold onto hair styling products deep into the fourth quarter have been tremendous.

Should be a great help for recruiting as well..  Now kids can visit and watch the team practice instead of just taking tours around campus

Does anyone else feel like our bowl-streak has finally started back up again? I feel like we've been to hell and back, but now I think we can only go up. I don't think we'll miss a bowl game ever again. That's just me, but I think its plausible. This win means so much (and I'm glad it was a home game so the fans could celebrate it together in the Big House where it should be celebrated).

So I'll ask this here as it probably doesn't deserve its own thread - how do bowl tickets work? Does the U reserve x amount for students? I NEED to go to this game, should I buy tickets to all B10 affiliated bowl games, or hold out for something on mgoblue.com?
