Great photos of the team from the new Harbaugh book

Submitted by Wendyk5 on

This was published a week ago in the New York Times - sorry if already posted, but totally worth a second look if it was. These are from a book Turnley co-authored with Jim Harbaugh. I especially love the one with the team lounging in the steel trough ice baths. Chesson and Poggi.

Didn't see this earlier, so thanks for posting. My personal favorite was Harbaugh pretending to be asleep on the plane. Nice try coach, we all know you never sleep.

Two comments:

1. The black and white photos really make the moment special;

2. The one with all of them in the ice bath tubs, with the two fellas front-and-center gazing longingly into each other's eyes, arms around shoulders, is a bit homoerotic. NTTAWWT, of course...

So that's what "selling your soul" looks like to PSU apparently.   I can sure see why they'd prefer Franklin over the hellish experience Harbaush seems to be inflicting on the team.

For some reason, the slide show wasn't coming up for me when I clicked over last time from Brian's UV post.

The post of Wheatley Sr and Wheatley Jr when Jr got hurt is really touching.

Also, the technique of flipping the chairs upside down and using them as reclined backrests is really clever!

But there's one glaring problem with one of the captions:

"Coach Harbaugh, just before leading his team down the tunnel into one of the largest stadiums in the country,..."

Your average 8-year old Michigan fan knows how the correct caption would read. Does anybody at the NYT actually research their topic before publishing?

I love the one of Harbaugh resting on the plane. It's got a sort of Norman Rockwell quality to it. It's humanizing but the cleats add a bit of humor to it.

One of the Michigan alumni magazines did a feature on this a month or so ago. They had a really cool picture of Harbaugh and Drevno sitting next to eachother after the Utah game, obviously looking disappointed. The caption was a quote by Harbaugh basically saying that after that game, he was concerned they might not win a single game. Glad he has managed to right the ship.

I highly recommend picking up this book if it's in your budget. It weighs a ton, but the photos literally leap off the page. Not sure I'd ever leave this out on an actual coffee table, but certainly a great way to remember Jim's first season!

to me how others perceive our program and the way our coach runs it, and thinks that he is some kind of prmia donna who doesn't promote great esprit de corps among his players. And all you have to do is look at those telling photos of Michigan football players to see how untrue that belief is. In fact, the ignorant PennLive writers who co-wrote an opinion piece the other day listing reasons why they would rather have James Franklin leading the Penn State football program than Jim Harbaugh ought to watch that NY Times slide show and maybe they'd get a small inkling of reality about MICHIGAN FOOTBALL and the proud alum and former All-American quarterback and now highly successful coach who passionately oversees it.

They'll get that message loud and clear on Saturday afternoon.

to take David's documentary photography class in 2012.

Immensely talented man.  Although his ego does have the tendency to get out of control, I have a great amount of respect for him.

Great photos, I'm glad he was able to build this relationship with harbaugh.
