Great Lakes Invitational

Submitted by MGoPietrowski on

Hey guys, I was thinking about heading to Detroit for New Years Eve, to catch the Red Wings/Blues Game, but i realized that the Great Lakes Invitational is in Detroit the Thursday and Friday before. Tickets don't go on sale until Nov 12, but I'm trying to get a plan together for my buddy and I who want to go up for it. Do any of you remember how much tickets for the GLI have cost in the past? I really don't feel like waiting umpteen days to get an idea of how much this is going to cost me...

As always,

thanks.

Tickets for the GLI both days have tradtionally been $10/day and up, depending on whether you want reserved seating or not.

There is a chance they might bump the price a bit this year since Tech is looking better and BC is the best 4th opponent we've had in a while, but it wouldn't be by much and that's doubtful since the GLI isn't all that highly attended (holidays mean few students, being on weekdays often means few regular people, and then there's tolerating the alumni band).

But I really don't care for the alumni band. They play really slow, and they play the same stuff over and over again. I know its not really their fault, since they all have real lives to worry about over learning and practicing new songs, but it is kind of embarrasing when they play Seven Nation Army for the 10th time and MTU's band keeps count of it. I'd rather have whomever of the regular band can make it to the games.

I will say that they beat the daylights of State's alumni band though. They DO play stuff other than the standard stuff, and State's band pretty much sticks to their crappy fight song and Dudley Do Right, and they are also bad at doing it.

Unless something changed, the Pep Band has absolutely no official status with the school. They are a totally student-run organization and every one of them that shows up to the GLI does so on their own time and dime as a poor college student who probably isn't even from nearby to cheer for a team that has won as many games in the last 3-4 years combined as Michigan has in 2/3s of any given season. They are no more of a "hack job" than the alumni band and I'd take them at the GLI any day. Unless you are a flat out homer who would take a guy with a kazoo over anything else just because he's a Michigan fan, I don't see how anybody else could either.

I'll take the alumni band over nothing, but if Tech can get their people to show up, I don't know why we can't let our regular band play with whoever can make it to the GLI. I'm not apologizing because I get sick of the same stuff (beyond the givens) every year.

10 dollars is usually general admission for upper bowl. Reserved seating in the lower bowl maxes out at 25 dollars I think. Ridiculously cheap, and one ticket gets you into both games for that day.

Anyone hear when OSU is releasing tickets for Cleveland? I'm assuming pricing will be something along the lines of the Big Chill, but I haven't heard anything definitive on either.

I haven't seen anything more up-to-date than what was said when the game was announced--that tickets go on sale to the general public on November 14.

From an mgoblue.com release:

The Cleveland Indians will put tickets on sale for The Frozen Diamond Faceoff on Nov. 14. An allotment of tickets will be available through the University of Michigan Athletics Ticket Office. Ordering instructions will be provided at a later date.

10 bucks for general admission upper deck and I wanna say around 25-30 for lower bowl general admission. Sometimes at local hockey rinks they give tickets away for free or little cesars pizza will give 5 bucks off. They monitor the lower level decently but upper deck is free roaming. I used to sneak down all the time though. Tons of fun though, well worth it!!
