Michigan State vs. Michigan Tech @ 3:30 on FSD
#3 Michigan vs. Western Michigan @ 7:00 on FSD+
Games are being played at Comerica Park, home of the Detroit Tigers.
Go Tech (soft spot in my heart for my bro-in-law's alma mater).
Ice looks questionable...
Also Tech has some sweet throwbacks on
I checked my usual spots (firstrow, wiziwig) but no dice. Its on FSD+ here in Michigan I believe
U-M/WMU is on FSD+
I did a quick search and did not find any
I'm watching it on FSD Alternate 2.
Mickey hit it on the head, these boards have no give. A chip and chase game will benefit both teams because the pucks hit the boards and don't bounce like the players are used too.
It is interesting that it is above freezing outside in Detroit. How do they make sure the ice does not start melting?
Today is almost ideal temperature. I've heard anywhere from 30-40 degrees is the window for good ice. You don't want it too cold (very possible for Winter Classic) where the ice gets brittle and breaks up. Likewise, if it gets over 40 degrees you start to see the ice get soft.
I do believe there is chiling capabilities under the ice at both Comerica and Michigan Stadium in the case of warm temperatures.
What he said
Here is a decent article about the ice from MLive, also video below from Dan Craig
ZACH BROWN BAND DRINK
I heard Trombone Shorty is opening up for them!
How is Western Michigan this year? They've been pretty tough the last couple of years. Did Michigan get the bum draw here?
Last year Western couldn't score goals, but they had outstanding defense. They lost three senior scorers as well as Danny DeKeyser, Garrett Haar and a third senior defensemen.
Defensively they're still good only allowing 2.39 GPG, but they can't score.
Not very many chances for either team. Not surprising considering these are the 47th and 52nd ranked offenses.
By all accounts the ice at Comerica is god awful. I hate how these outdoor games have now become commonplace. It's lost it's luster.
I think it's an improvement over their regular uni's personally
Let's get a kickstarter going. We'll film our own commercial and put it on FSD just so we don't have to watch the Zac Brown Band every single commercial break
After the Zach Brown show is over, I have a feeling we will be seeing four months of that Cher commercial.
Where's Call Sam when you need him.
Looking forward to this one!
P.S. Not a bad tournament in Pittsburgh either. Robert Morris, BC, PSU, and Bowling Green.
Anybody with a score update from the State vs. Tech game?
16 min left in the 2nd
MSU to the box for slashing. MTU power play
Screen went black and only says
"No Video Input" with a timer running up. Recovered after about 12 seconds
6:50 left in the 2nd
Jacob Johnstone scores. 1-0 Tech.
Shots are 23-9 in favor of Michigan Tech.
End of two: Michigan Tech 1 - Michigan State 0
And my power just went out
JT is playing after all! Thats good to hear.
Nagelvoort in net
MSU goal. Rebound off the shot directed right at Matt Berry. 1-1 game.
Weak shot from the blueline hits an MTU stick high up at his hands and goes in. 2-1 State.
11:30 left in the 3rd
Another weird bounce, the puck comes right out in front of the MSU net and Alex Petan scores. 2-2 game.
MTU hits the post, MSU comes back on the next rush and draws a penalty.
MTU gets two breakaways shorthanded; they missed the first, the second shot right into Hildebrand's chest.
Hildebrand looks like a solid goalie. Tech isn't exactly the Pittsburgh Penguins but he's seen a good number of difficult shots and has stood tall
Going to overtime tied 2-2
This has been a great game, I hate that this will end with a shootout.
Whoever came up with this idea should be shot. And thrown directly into the Detroit River.
Michigan Tech wins.
With an asterisk. A big one.
More importantly Michigan State lost. They have gotten really annoying since that tie against Minnesota.
Ryan Furne scores. MTU wins.
Start time has been pushed back to around 8pm due to the crappy ice quality. They're repairing it right now.
This was a terrible idea. The GLI should be inside.
Do you have an exact time? If not, is it before or after 8PM?
7:45 start time
Do you know if this is effecting TV broadcast?
I found an channel on my U-verse (Ohio) that is listed as Alt2 an it had the MSU MTU game on earlier and it shows Michigan's game now. The channel worked fine during first game and now that I turn it on for Michigan's game there's a weird hd test with a blaring whistle and just colors.
Still hopeful it'll come on I was looking forward to some hockey.
FSD+ is showing something on the Wings at the moment. Not sure if your channel will show our game as well, the Tech game was on regular FSD
This is like a dump off channel for more broadcasts so who knows. I keep checking but it's still the same. Maybe once the puck drops.
Otherwise I searched the entire guide I couldn't find it anywhere.
dropped on my lap. So what. Watch bball dowtown, then GLI, then BW3. Just spent all day in Midtown today ... perfect. Leave the computer people. live a little.
When the temperature is above freezing it's a problem cleaning the ice because it cracks and splits when they skate on it.
Guess what channel the GLI Championship will be on tomorrow night?
None. It's going to be a webcast. While the third place game will be on TV.
Makes tons of sense.
What time is the championship game? It says it's airing at 10pm on FSD, is that a replay? (With the timing, it would figure)...
It may depend on the weather. MGoBlue says 3 or 7
According to FSD's TV listings, the third-place game is at 3:30PM. MGoBlue wouldn't have a time because they don't know yet what game U-M would be playing.
At 7PM tomorrow the Wings are on FSD, and the Pistons on FSD+.
Really? Outside of the nameplates, which really can't be read, I really like these
Let's Go Blue!
I didn't know Motte had gotten to Malmö before being cut.
Lukas Hafner starting in net for Michigan. That's a surprise.
If Michigan doesn't tighten it up defensively, it's not going to matter who's in net for WMU.
Because I have never heard of that guy
I'm not thinking straight. Too much Zach Brown.
This is sloppier than my ex...
I turn on the tv and the first thing I see is a Zach Brown Band commercial...this cannot be a good sign
Don't worry - they show a little bit of hockey between ZBB commercials.
No, it just means that you definitely have the right channel.
D'oh. On the PK.
Back to full strength
On the power play!
PP for us.
50 times better than it did in the early game, but still not good
just need to convert
Power Play over
That was a terrible shift from Kevin Clare. He is really struggling with the puck on the end boards this year.
Thanks for any updates...game not on TV and radio not an option right now.
Is it just me, or does it look like there's NOBODY at this game. If people are there, I'm not sure where they're sitting since the seats look almost completely empty...
That's what I was thinking when I saw clips of the stands. 95%ish empty. I wonder why more people aren't there?
Back on the PP 1:49 to go 1st period
Damn, Motte called for hooking.
4 on 4 hockey. Tyler Motte in the box for hooking
Broncos took a penalty!
Michigan back on the power play. 4 on 3 0:16 left in the 1st
End of the first. Lucky to get out of it with no score.
End of the 1st: 0-0 game
So U-M will start the second on the PP. Not sure how long, though.
There is about 10 seconds of 4 on 3; then about a minute 15 of 4 on 4 and a half miniute of 5 on 4 power play for Michigan.
Per @umichhockey, WMU has 9 shots to our 7.
...there may be guys on this thread not watching the bowl game who are interested.
They got the two. 17-14 'Gophers
So, still no score.
Whoooooaaaaa, C YA!
Back on the Power Play
Damn, no joy.
Back to full strength
Dammit, DeBlois for tripping.
DeBlois to the box
Compher SHG!!!! 1-0!
I miss the band
Compher scores 1-0
wow, catching it, controlling it, and a great deke
We want MOAR goals!
Full strength. Yay, PK!
Dammit, they score. 1-1.
Sucks They score
Fuck. Their guy was all alone in front of the net.
cannot describe how not good that was
Blown coverage leaves their leading scorer right in front of Nagelvoort.
Argh, big save by their goalie!
5 feet out, Compher hits iron.
GODDAMMIT!! They score, 2-1 them. Fucking turnovers.
Sucks They score again
Broncos lead now, 2-1.
but this has turned into an extremely entertaining game here in the 2nd
Ah 2013 you fickle bitch.
She's not fickle. She's just pissed off at us for some reason or another.
Gophers holding onto a 3 point lead with less than 2 minutes left.
Phew! Save, Nagelvoort.
Almost another one. Great save
This game is at least 4-1 going the wrong way if Nagelvoort is not sharp.
Anyone have any insight onto the conditions of the ice?
but not as bad as the early game
The mistakes they're making are the same ones that they have been making in every game. The defensive zone coverage is the same as it always has been. I don't understand why they can't get this right.
This Kovacs guy any relation?
Missing some great chances by PDG, Guptill post and Boo
Negligent play by defense leading to both goals. De Jong and bennett.
Gophers cough up a TD to fall behind 21-17 with 1:14 to go.
Strong start to the period.
[Ed: immediately after I type this we have a couple very scary close calls on our end and look a bit ... lackadaisical, *sigh*]
Lynch snaps one in from about 40 feet.
not sure how...but whatever lol
WOO. NOT A TRIP LOL
GOALLL!!!! A fresh start to put the blah behind us!
Travis Lynch scores. 2-2.
We can haz PPG?
Bennett splits three on the rush and gets slashed.
Tripping on Michigan, 4 on 4 coming up
D'oh! Tripping on us called this time.
Another PP chance for us.
AAAAAAHHHH!!! ANOTHER POST!!!
the power play has done everything but score today
Nieves hits the post. When you're cold, you're cold.
Michigan gets a 3 minute PP haha, or something ridiculous. That drops us to 0/7 on the power play tonight (if you count the one before we went 4 on 4 just recently).
I appreciate all the updates. I don't get FSD where I live and I can't listen to the audio feed.
Oops, clock stopped, our PP continued.
So, what, a little over 6 min left?
Edit: 5:38 now?
Looks like there are more technilogical problems. Time to bring hockey back inside.
Clock is working now. 5:10 left
Anyone have pictures of the front of the uniforms, saw somebody posted the back earlier.
EJECTION. Unacceptable with 4 minutes left that a hit in the back is not ejected.
To clarify, he was not ejected. Compher shoved in the back straight into the net, knocks it off and gets shaken up. They called a minor penalty.
PP for us.
1/18 on our PP going back 4 games? Yikes!
3:44 to go. We need a PPG.
Compher hit hard from behind. PP time.
Damn, no joy.
0/8 on the power play this game. That's incredible, and bad.
Can anyone confirm that our PP was actually good before this recent stretch of being awful? I mean we actually looked alright but can't put it in the damned net.
I'm nervous about shootouts if it comes to that. Probably because the Wings can't win one.
However, this PP unit is far superior to the past couple years. They move the puck and get multiple quality chances usually every opportunity. It just seems snake bitten right now, but make no mistake this power play is good and dangerous
This is where we could really use Andrew Copp
Shit. Di Giuseppe hitting from behind, 1:36 and on the PK.
Broncos on the PP to end the OT.
That was a pretty weak boarding call, especially in OT. The hit was at least 8 feet from the boards.
Nagelvoort saves, under a minute to go.
Western wins. Pitt goes coast-to-coast, skates through everyone.
Fuck, they score. Guy just skated through everybody.
He walked around 4 Wolverines like they were pylons.
why as a defenseman you HAVE to keep your feet moving....
They basically went for a half assed hit. If you miss a hit like that you're screwed. Three guys on the blueline and he gets through them all. Gotta know there's only 18 seconds left and just to play it safe. If you gamble and pinch and happen to get the puck there's no time to counter and score anyway.
2013 strikes again! Fuck this shit!
I just said we're only playing for a shootout after that penalty.
Then as soon as he beat the first man I said if he beats all five guys I will be so pissed. Then it happens. What a terrible defensive play.
Just crap. What a shitty way to lose.
18 seconds left in overtime he shakes Michigan's entire team at the line and wins the game
Fucking A. Endless fucking winter. Nothing good happens ever.
...one of the shittiest and heartbreaking years for U-M athletics in recent memory.
That's all. HELLOOOOO 2014.
I'd like to personally thank Phil DiGuiseppe, for talking two bonehead ass penalties and causing me to freeze my dick off just to watch a L.
Fuck you, 2013
Shitty effort from all four guys on that last goal. Pathetic.
Well I'm ready for 2014, let's hope Michigan's fortune changes with the calendar.
I'll say it: the outdoor hockey thing has completely lost its novelty for me. Went to the first three (Cold War, Madison, and the Big Chill), and it's just a shitty way to both play and watch a hockey game. Especially one that even remotely means something.
There's been so many now that it's lost it's appeal. It was cool the first few times, but there's nothing special about it anymore.
I mean, I don't know what's worse: the fact that the puck jumps around like popcorn on the shitty ice, or that the fans a mile away in the seats probably can't see it anyway.
Bahhh I love it, takes me back to the days i used to skate on my grandpas back yard rink. Went to frozen diamond and a few things at copa including what ended up being a long two games today. I'm looking forward to going back over tmrw and tues. wed should be good too but not being much of an NHL fan anymore leaves me not as excited as many.
Great, but you had the leisure of not skating on said ice if the conditions were too warm, and the luxury of knowing skating on your grandpa's ice didn't mean anything for anybody other than yourself. As opposed to games scheduled months ahead of the weather forecast in venues not meant for hockey, and temporary ice surfaces that are usually far below the quality you get in a permanent venue.
I appreciate the nostalgia trip, but it's a pretty shitty product for fans, and leaves far too much to chance for the players. Give me Michigan-MIchigan State in a rocking Yost or a not-library Munn any day of the week over what's going to happen tomorrow at Comerica, especially when the ice was pretty much shit before the second game even began.
it was novel for the original Michigan-MSU title and then for the Big Chill but now it's just a recipe for terrible ice and terrible sightlines. It's not even cool on TV because it's usually played in front of half-full (if they're lucky) outdoor stadiums and arenas. It's being way way overdone at this point
Disagree. I still love it. I played pond hockey growing up in Muskegon.
I'm still shocked that happened. Everyone messed up on that play.
Michigan was playing four across the line in a diamond. To get technical it looks like a 1-2-1.
DeBlois got beat at the top, Selman took a terrible angle from the left side and put space between him and Downing for Pitt to sneak through.
Even with both of those mistakes Downing still had position, but for whatever reason he went for the body check and missed. Three whifs on one play, I still can't believe it.
but I did find this video of the goal. What awful defense. He was barely impeded at all
I could have went my entire life without seeing this.
I was pissed off enough just listening to the web feed.
Am I looking at the tv schedule today correctly- consolation game is on live in the afternoon but the title game will not be shown love, but later at 10pm? If so, stupid ass situation for the GLI and this tourney in general. No one wants to go to the game, and no one will see it. Bravo
