Michigan State vs. Michigan Tech @ 3:30 on FSD
#3 Michigan vs. Western Michigan @ 7:00 on FSD+
Games are being played at Comerica Park, home of the Detroit Tigers.
Go Tech (soft spot in my heart for my bro-in-law's alma mater).
Ice looks questionable...
Also Tech has some sweet throwbacks on
I checked my usual spots (firstrow, wiziwig) but no dice. Its on FSD+ here in Michigan I believe
U-M/WMU is on FSD+
I did a quick search and did not find any
I'm watching it on FSD Alternate 2.
Mickey hit it on the head, these boards have no give. A chip and chase game will benefit both teams because the pucks hit the boards and don't bounce like the players are used too.
It is interesting that it is above freezing outside in Detroit. How do they make sure the ice does not start melting?
Today is almost ideal temperature. I've heard anywhere from 30-40 degrees is the window for good ice. You don't want it too cold (very possible for Winter Classic) where the ice gets brittle and breaks up. Likewise, if it gets over 40 degrees you start to see the ice get soft.
I do believe there is chiling capabilities under the ice at both Comerica and Michigan Stadium in the case of warm temperatures.
What he said
Here is a decent article about the ice from MLive, also video below from Dan Craig
ZACH BROWN BAND DRINK
I heard Trombone Shorty is opening up for them!
How is Western Michigan this year? They've been pretty tough the last couple of years. Did Michigan get the bum draw here?
Last year Western couldn't score goals, but they had outstanding defense. They lost three senior scorers as well as Danny DeKeyser, Garrett Haar and a third senior defensemen.
Defensively they're still good only allowing 2.39 GPG, but they can't score.
Not very many chances for either team. Not surprising considering these are the 47th and 52nd ranked offenses.
By all accounts the ice at Comerica is god awful. I hate how these outdoor games have now become commonplace. It's lost it's luster.
not perfect, but plenty good to play on. and i'll take cold weather ice over warmish 35 degree plus ice every time. my first few years of hockey were outside. a number of my teammates at michigan had played outside too. its a lot of fun and both teams have to play on the same surface, so it's not like one group gets an advantage.
I think it's an improvement over their regular uni's personally
Let's get a kickstarter going. We'll film our own commercial and put it on FSD just so we don't have to watch the Zac Brown Band every single commercial break
After the Zach Brown show is over, I have a feeling we will be seeing four months of that Cher commercial.
Where's Call Sam when you need him.
Looking forward to this one!
P.S. Not a bad tournament in Pittsburgh either. Robert Morris, BC, PSU, and Bowling Green.
Anybody with a score update from the State vs. Tech game?

MSU to the box for slashing. MTU power play
Screen went black and only says
"No Video Input" with a timer running up. Recovered after about 12 seconds

Jacob Johnstone scores. 1-0 Tech.
Shots are 23-9 in favor of Michigan Tech.
End of two: Michigan Tech 1 - Michigan State 0
And my power just went out
JT is playing after all! Thats good to hear.
Nagelvoort in net
MSU goal. Rebound off the shot directed right at Matt Berry. 1-1 game.
Weak shot from the blueline hits an MTU stick high up at his hands and goes in. 2-1 State.

Another weird bounce, the puck comes right out in front of the MSU net and Alex Petan scores. 2-2 game.
MTU hits the post, MSU comes back on the next rush and draws a penalty.
MTU gets two breakaways shorthanded; they missed the first, the second shot right into Hildebrand's chest.
Hildebrand looks like a solid goalie. Tech isn't exactly the Pittsburgh Penguins but he's seen a good number of difficult shots and has stood tall
Going to overtime tied 2-2
This has been a great game, I hate that this will end with a shootout.
Whoever came up with this idea should be shot. And thrown directly into the Detroit River.
Michigan Tech wins.
With an asterisk. A big one.
More importantly Michigan State lost. They have gotten really annoying since that tie against Minnesota.
Ryan Furne scores. MTU wins.
Start time has been pushed back to around 8pm due to the crappy ice quality. They're repairing it right now.
This was a terrible idea. The GLI should be inside.
Do you have an exact time? If not, is it before or after 8PM?
7:45 start time
