Great call by RR putting Tate in.

Submitted by wolverine1987 on

A lot of guys on the liveblog were saying "put DRob back in" with the score 21-14. That would have been exactly the wrong thing to do, sending the exact wrong message to the team. Beat BG and do it with the guys we have is the exact right message to send to everyone on the team. DRob back in not only is the wrong thing to do given the injury, it sends  a message of panic to the team. Bravo to RR for not succumbing to that impulse.

On a side note--some morons were debating who should start next week. Can you believe the brain of anyone that would even consider that?

I loved seeing Tate get some playing time.  As a fan I would like to see Tate be second string I pull for him.  I like Devin to but can you imagine hoe worse last ear would have been without Tate.

As for who should start next week..that is the dumbest question ever.  If Denard is healthy he starts, end of story.

It was great to see Tate in the game.  Devin looked great too, but I really think RR is a coach first.  Meaning Tate seems to have gotten back behind the team and it seemed to me (whatever that means) a vote of confidence and appreciation for Tate.

It is also entirely possible I am reading way to much into this and weaving a completely false narrative a la Brian Griese.

I really don't see the point at all in DG seeing the field unless absolutely necessary but I guess Tate was regressing on and off the field and RR did not feel he deseerved to be 2nd string.  I just hope this doesn't hurt us 2-3 years down the road with someone getting fed up and transferring.

First, I might be missing something, but redshirting DG wouldn't matter in 2-3 years because he would still be on the team anyway. And secondly, do you think we will not recruit any more QBs? Also, I would have thought today might have taught you a lesson about why you need 3 or 4 capable QBs on the team...unless you like the idea of being 1 hit away from the Coner coming into the game

Right on Tate Forcier...well done. Tate's young and immature at times but he's shown he can lead and plays with serious confidence. Everyone knew that eventually we'd be needing Tate at some point this year and he showed he can contribute.

Quarterback Depth! Hell Yeah!

I thought Devin was doing a fine job at QB. I don't have a problem with bringing Tate in though. I hope to see both of them getting snaps in the 2nd half.

Good to see Tate play, but this was just a football decision.  BGSU was starting to make a run, and while Devin is the future, he is still raw.  A good move by the coaching staff.

Anyone that questions who should start next week does not know the game of football and should never have an opinion on anything ever again. Denard in 1 quarter racked up over 180 total yards.  Unreal stupidity by some people.

Depth on the offensive side is great Taylor Lewan playing,  3 capable QBs, understand we must outscore teams this year defense will make improvement throughout the year and will be a focus of recruitment. Next year is when we will make the big jump to double digit win total top ten ranking. If we had pryor and newsome we would not have Drob, Tater, Devon, I for one am glad it turned out this way

I know sitting Denard is the right thing to do... Make IU gameplan for 2-3 QBs, and not just Denard, but my achy-breaky heart wants Denard in for just one more series.

Pretty Please? One snap even?  I'll be your best friend.

a tremendous grasp of the offense.  He is no Denard of course but i have great confidence in him. He seems to make the right decision on every play.

The offense sure seemed slower when Denard went out though.  DG seemed like he was in slow motion when he ran. So far i have to say he is pretty impressive....but not nearly ready to take over the job full time should something long-term happen to Denard.

Thirded, but, trying to err on the side of "coaches know what they're doing" and "it's more important to have everyone ready to help the team win right now". Never-the-less, i'd rather Devin didn't play unless needed because of something happening to one of the other 2. Too late for that now, and nothing i can do to change it, so i'm just gonna roll with this. Obvsly, becuz, like, there's nothing else i can do.

Bluechip QBs don't redshirt much anymore.  Gardner came here with the understanding that he'd have the chance to compete for the job.  RR has made it clear that competition is a seasonlong thing, not just something that happens in August.

Forcier was clearly favoring his left leg in the second half.  We need all three of them ready to play and quit worrying about a lost redshirt possibility.
