Gravewalk

Submitted by Bryan on

One of my favorite traditions and I can never remember if it is on Tuesday or Wednesday night since The Game moved until after Thanksgiving.

For those that are wondering what the hell I'm referencing, it's not about walking on Hoke's figurative grave, but it is about the real graves of the greats of Michigan past. Every year Superfan leads a group of people through Forest Hill Cemetery to visit the gravesites of Bo, Yost, and Ufer. Singing of The Victors, recordings of Bo or Ufer, and the ceremonial cracking of buckeyes have all been done in the past.

If you have never been, and this is still occurring, I recommend the experience.

Anyone know if Superfan is leading the walk again this year?

It's weird, when I was younger I was under the impression that The Game was almost always Thanksgiving weekend. This was due to the fact that when I was kid we coincidentally took family trips in just the years when it was Thanksgiving weekend due to the season starting later, in 1989 and 1990 (and in the case of 1995, when Michigan had an extra bye week because they played in the Pigskin Classic), which made that year's holiday a little more memorable than usual and caused me to associate The Game with the holiday weekend. In subsequent years when it was the weekend before, I would just be like, "Oh, must be a scheduling anomaly this year," not realizing it was for the fifth year in a row. I evenutally figured it out hahah.

I like that it's always the holiday weekend now. It would feel kind of empty before to have all that football on, but no Michigan.

is it michigan's equivalent to that obnoxious buckeye dude who is always shown at football games? or is it more chill like the awesome guy who owns that uofm memorabilia store downtown?
