and NJ pipeline in particular are going to take off when Peppers gets on campus in a few days. I'm not saying he's going to set the world on fire from the start but I do believe he's going to show that he is a very, very good freshman and will be a huge recruiting tool for Michigan.

This is the third time in a row that someone has committed to the football team while I was in either a staff meeting or some other type of meeting, so clearly the solution to success in Michigan football is that I need to be a little more fastidious about attending meetings.

All the same, welcome to Michigan, Grant Newsome!

Perhaps this explains the confusion (from nj.com profile):

Born in Lawrenceville [N.J.], Newsome moved to Virginia when he was three, only to return to Lawrenceville for prep school.

EDIT: To clarify, it appears he and his family still live in Virginia, but he goes to a New Jersey prep school.

Great news!  On my lunch break.  Just made this turkey sandwich all the better.  Seems to be a very classy young man.  Congrats to him and his family.

After reading the letter the kid wrote plus his offer sheet, yikes man, this is a phenomenal get.  Smart, hard-worker, gracious, it's just blindingly obvious in today's world when a kid is the product of good parenting, and in this case... I call obvious good parenting.  Five Stars.  Should be invited to The Opening for Parents.

Grant Newsome's committment along with Ty Isaac mean that the incessant negativism can be put on hold for a while?  Maybe we can put away our seppuku knives?

I'm cracking up here. Do you think a little good news is going to change the demeanor of much of the horde? I feel like I learned a bit of what this place is really like when the voting went down in the middle of a less-than-stellar season. Freakin' Lord of the Flies.

But seriously, my best hope is that the incessant negativism will move on to something else. Maybe we can point it towards the Lions, where it customarily hangs out?

Very class act to write what he did.  I think that speaks to his humility and good education.  I hope he's an absolute terror on the field.  Congrats and welcome to Ann Arbor, Mr. Newsome!

I like what the coaches are quietly building here despite having a few problems on the field last year.  I opened this post fraught with some dismay as it wasn't a "hello" post but was very happily surprised!

is that the flip from PSU is not only a repudiation of Franklin's recruiting prowess, but is also a repudiation of the meme that Darrell Funk can't coach the OL.  Seriously, show of hands, who here thinks Grant Newsom flips to Michigan if he thought he'd be setting himself up for failure at the next level?

Hey y'all! Been lurking for many many months and now seemed as good as any time to say Hi. So... HI!

Dang - I was also sure Newsome was going to PSU due to the title! GoBLUinTX - I commute to Houston for work every week. IMHO, TX brisket has been everything they claim! Agree about Funk. He seems very well respected. Like many others, I'm very optimistic that the OL will benefit greatly from the simplification of blocking schemes. I never sat and broke down "film", but wish I had a nickel for every missed assignment that I saw watching games live. Let's line up and get some hats on people!

I'm not much for social media and don't anticipate posting too often. And I definitely have no interest in participating n the internet-tough-guy pissing contests. I refuse to use spell check on my posts, so there may be an occasional misp-spelilng in my postes. To all who would take satisfaction in pointing out an obvious error - I'll do my best to suppress the _______ I'd like to toss in your general direction!

PS - Be gentle with me.
