Just wanted to post a message of congratulations to all the other Wolverines that received degrees today. It's an exciting day for the community and for all of us that finally earned the Michigan degree. Go Blue!

Congrats to all who are graduating from U-M today; I sat in the Big House as well 3 years ago and have since found that life moves extremely fast post-college. The longer it gets past graduation, the more you'll miss U-M and Ann Arbor. Savor this weekend with your family and friends. Forever Go Blue!

From a representative of the class of 2000 (who wouldn't have guessed?), congratulations to today's graduates. You shall always be part of the Michigan family, and forever and always, Go Blue.

It's hard to believe that it has been 15 years now for me, but still, I look back fondly on those days in Ann Arbor - they were some of the best I've experienced.

Yes, congrats! Now please go home to Oakland County, New York and Beijing. As a life long A2 resident, Ann Arbor is best when 1/5 the population leaves during the nicest 4 months of the year. Summer fest, top.,,I am also old and grumpy.

1987 for me. Mike Wallace delivered the address. There were people wearing "Free Nelson Mandela" stickers on the backs of their gowns. My roommate's brother brought a cigarette pack full of joints and I think I was high for 72 hours straight. That's the last time I smoked pot.

I always like to hear how other UM classes (both before and after mine) utilize their graduation time to express the prevailing socia-political trends of that time.

I'm curious how those in your class would think of Nelson Mandela these days.  With the availability of more more facts and objective analysis, I suspect it would be very different.

by "availability of facts" do you mean things he did after he was finally freed from nearly 3 decades of political imprisonment, or things he did that got him imprisoned, of which we know more now? either way it doesn't seem relevant to how they thought of him at that time. The fact that an established regime simply gave up, abandoned apartheid, gave up political power, gave up nuclear weapons developed in cooperation with Israel, which were meant to guarantee the regimes existence, is pretty damn amazing. And it happened due to enormous economic pressure, brought about in no small part by people overseas who thought it important that Mandela be freed.

Yeah, all you need to know about Mandela is the Truth and Reconciliation committees. If any other country had flipped power so quickly, there would have been blood in the streets. France and England during their revolutions were blood baths. Even the U.S. Tried Nazis and hung more than a few as justice after WWII. South Africa killed not one Afrikaner, an amazing feet considering white South Africans commited genocide and extreme ghettoization for generations. Put in that position, I don't think I could have done that. I would have wanted blood. So obviously, Mandela is a giant and deserves all credit he gets and more

At the ceremony, students with the stickers stood with their backs to the administration (I don't recall it being to Mike Wallace) in a call to divest from South Africa. There were shanty's in the diag - it was a very powerful movement back then, and the focus was on apartheid and divestment.

Graduated today! It was hot as hell but I guess I can't complain too much, better than rain.  Congrats to all other graduates and go blue!

I was blessed to see my son graduate from Michigan and Ross yesterday. What a great day and such terrific weather. Families were so proud and Ari and Paul of Zingermans were fantastic and warm speakers. we had dinner at Zingermans Roaddhouse last night and Ari was filling water glasses and taking time at each table.

Anyway, great day and even more blessed to have my 2nd son starting this Fall!

Congrats to all the grads. My advice is to enjoy the next few weeks and the summer. Not to sound depressing, but once it hits September, a lot will change.
