Grad Transfers?

Submitted by ScruffyTheJanitor on

I have heard scuttle butt from varous sources that Michigan may be willing to hold a scholarshop for a grad transfer to possibly play next year. If they are an offensive tackle, defensive tackle, or cornerback, they would have to be considered strongly by this coaching staff (even if the track record for linemen transfers is dubious).

I thought I'd make a list of some interesting candidates that Michigan could consider:

Players that are talented but may not make sense:

  • Jalen Hurd, Tenn (TE): Was a pretty great player whose transfer stunned UT. Seems like he might be a head case, but Butch Jones rubs people the wrong way. Was a good RB; wants to be a TE now. May just go to the NFL.
  • Cooper Bateman: Alabama (QB) : A TON of people thought he'd be 'Bama's starting QB this year. Fairly highly rated recruit.
  •
  • Jonathan Parker, Iowa (WR): We have a bunch of young WRs on the roster, and Iowa's recievers haven't been the most dependable bunch, but he's out there.
  • Shai McKenzie: VaTech (RB): 4 Star recruit; has a statutory rape (!) conviction.
  • Logan Tuley-Tillman: Akron (T): Positional fit might be a tough PR move.
  • Jeff Badet, Kentucky (WR): Led the Wildcats with 670 recieving yards.
  • Cameron Dillard, Florida (C/OG):Is lineman, will travel. Has some SEC starting experience; was buried on the depth chart due to a knee injury. Is married to someone from Michigan (who went to FL). H/T Nerv for this one.

Players that are good fits:

Others:

  • Khalia Hackett, Arkansas (LB)
  • Josh Moore, Iowa (DL)

Has anyone heard any other names that have announced or are considered locks to transfer this year? I will try to update the list as we go.

Jalen Hurd laid down on his team mid season. I live pretty close to Nashville and there were a lot of not so great feelings with that situation. I thought it was funny because...well it's Tennessee.

That's complete bullshit. Tennessee royally screwed him. He was all set to transfer after the end of the season last year. They installed a downhill / under center package for the bowl game and he promplty wrecked Northwestern. Afterwards they told him they would continue to install under center packages to get him more involved in their offense, so he stuck around. Cue this past season, and the champions of life are getting blasted while taking shotgun snaps on the goal line. Everything they sold him on to change his mind into coming back was a sham.

Who are you to say he should stay in a program that lied to his face to trap him for another year? That doesn't sound like family...or a pretty shitty one.

He's supposed to go to practice and put his body, blood, sweat on the line for a coaching staff that lied to him and is phasing him out anyway?

I'm sorry...but that is 100% HIS decision at that point. If he wants to leave, leave. If he wants to stick it out...that's his choice too. If the story is true, and who knows if it is...but IF it is, no one should judge him for either decision.

If your wife cheats on you, do you have to stay with her just because you made wedding vows? No. If you want to, hey...go for it, that's on you. If you want to leave, that's your choice to. At that point YOU get to decide...she forfeits an opinion and fuck what anyone else thinks.

I'm all for taking:
Hackett
Moore
Hurd
Bateman
Parker
LTT
Badet
It seems like we are going to have more scholarships open then we previously thought and why not bring somebody in for depth?

I don't think LTT coming back would be the PR nightmare people make it out to be. I'm sure some people will clutch their pearls, and opposing fans will feign outrage, but at the end of the day what he did wasn't exactly unforgiveable. Dumb, yes, but I think most people in this day and age can understand college students get fucked up and make bad decisions. He's also got a great story about getting out of a bad situation growing up. It would be a good redemption story if spun the right way.

He is actually a Michigan graduate and per this text exchange it looks like JH is aware of the road to redemption. Would be controversion but Harbaugh's the one who kicked him off the team so he can be the one to bring him back. It's not like a previous coach kicked him off but now that JH needs OL depth he'll bring him back. He needed OL depth when he kicked him off in the first place, btw.

First off, what is did was NOT the end of the world. He didn't blast the pictures on instagram or facebook. He didn't group text them to all of his friends. He took them were her phone and sent them to his and was too drunk to delete them from her phone.

The rap video may even be more uncomfortable.

Regardless, he paid the price...big time. I'm not for a second saying what he did was okay because I said it wasn't the end of the world. It wasn't okay. He should've been punished and he was.

It would be a positive redemption PR story, IMO...a kid who fucked up, paid the price, and battled back. That's awesome.

I don't think his penalty was so bad that a second chance is completely off the table. He didn't rape anyone, he didn't even steal crab legs, he didn't punch a girl at a bar or club.

And my biggest thing is he served his punishment. He didn't skate, he didn't get some fake redshirt, he got kicked off the team. Did what he had to do legally and if he's a better, smarter, man. Let the kid play if the coaches think he can help.

Just my opinion.

If there are reports that the staff is pursuing someone or that a player is considering Michigan, I will read them. Blind speculation seems a little silly to me though. This isn't basketball, and besides an experienced QB getting Rudock'd (Beathard'd?) out or moving up to face better competition (ex: Vernon Adams), I don't think it's that consequential for an elite Power 5 program. One or two journeymen who wanted a change probably won't alter the fate of Team 138.

An Offensive lineman or DT that can be in the two deep would the only transfers of value that I can think of.

You're not remembering the whole story.  He filmed a woman having sex without her consent. That's why he was kicked off the team.  I mean, if you read the police stuff, it doesn't sound like he's an evil guy or anything.  And he went through the legal system and I don't think we want to condemn him to a life in the salt mines, but man, he can have his 'redemption story' (whatever that means), somewhere else.
