Thats great for him and bad for us.
Being projected to go to Phoenix is probably bad for him. That franchise is going nowhere fast. Front office doesn't have a clue, the owner is notoriously cheap, their head coach basically just resigned, and they promoted Lindsey Hunter (yes that Lindsey Hunter) who has no coaching experience. This in turn pissed off two of their longtime assistant coaches enough to quit, one of who was Dan Majerle, who is probably the closest thing that Phoenix has to a sports legend. Oh and they basically have no young talent except maybe Dragic. Phoenix is one of the worst-positioned franchises in the league for the future.
TL;DR - STAY IN SCHOOL GLENN!
It seems like they haven't been the same since Steve Kerr left.
do not speak ill of lindsey hunter!
besides, he spent his last 4-5 years in the league serving more as an assistant coach and mentor to younger players than as an actual player.
Smoke em if ya got em.
Smoke 'em while you still have 'em.
Please let that GRIII draft stock be a joke. I don't want him to leave for the draft....
I know I'll get pos'd for this but I don't think that GR3 should go pro yet. The way players develop under Beilein and the other coaches is amazing and he still has a lot of developing to do. Stay another year, bang more co-eds, and be THE man on the team.
His family is not in dire need of the money. They chose a program with a coach who focuses on development of players instead of cashing in on one-and-dones. He may very well stay around for another one.
This may be the first time I've ever seen someone add a posbang disclaimer. Well played, sir!
You must have missed the thread where they were saying all of the annoying things people say on MGOBLOG. One of them was the I know I'll get negged for this and someone used the I know I'll get Pos'd for this.
Noooooooooooo. Alhough at a knicks fan, i'd take hardaway. Thank you.
Here's to hoping the GRII made good investments and saved money well.
In all honesty though, that could be the difference. A lot of underclassmen leave early for the NBA because of the promise of a big NBA paycheck. However, if Glenn Robinson was smart with his money, then it shouldn't be nearly as big of an issue for GRIII, and hopefully he can afford to take another year in college and improve his game and his draft stock.
Honest question? I am sure GRII provides for his kids, but are they all that close? I always see Hardaways dad at every single game, I have yet to see GRII at a game or even mentioned all that much..
The Robinson family lived in my wife's childhood neighborhood when the Big Dog played for Milwaukee. As far as she remembers, they were a normal traditional family. By all accounts they still are. I think Hardaway's father being at every game is probably the exception rather than the rule.
AFAIK, GRII lives in Atlanta. GRIII grew up in Indiana with his mom and step dad.
Yes! Dad lives in Atlanta! Not sure the role Dad plays but the son seems really close with the Mom and Step-Dad! You would think Dad would have been seen at atleast 1 game by now, I could be wrong but I havnt seen it!
http://www.nwitimes.com/sports/high-school/boys-basketball/l-c-s-robinso...
According to that article the first time he saw GR3 play HS basketball was in march of 2010.
Thanks for this post it really clears things up! I also seen that his Dad was at the Ohio game! Glad to see that Dad is involved and is trying. He also gives their Mother props for what a good job she has done raising the 2 boys! Good story, Thanks!!
Happy Easter !!
He is a Purdue fan
/s
GRIII was born while his father was playing at Purdue. GRII and his brother Gelen live with their mother in Indiana. That's about all I can tell you.
the problem is that GR3 has been steadliy improving his draft stock this entire season, there are a lot of conference games, the conference tourney, and the ncaa tourney left for him to kill it and improve his position even more. I could see him hit top 5 by the time we win the championship
GRIII projected at #11 #111 in NBA draft.
GLENN IF YOU"RE READING THIS THERE IS NO REASON TO CLICK THE LINK IN THE OP...
We don't rebuild, we reload. I am not worried.
/s...kinda
...still believe, no matter what, GRIII stays for one more year.
But I think there's a real chance Hardaway stays his final year. His dad seems to want him to graduate.
Crazy to me that they have Milwaukee taking Burke, since they already have Brandon Jennings. Admittedly, I'm not the biggest NBA fan, but I was under the impression that they were happy with him, he's almost a 20 PPG player, and gives them solid minutes
They also have a small shooting guard in Monta Ellis and seem likely to trade one of them in the future so drafting Burke doesn't make much sense for them.
This just proves how little research goes into these kind of things. Obviously the guy just ranked the players and put the teams in later. Brandon Jacobs is a sick PG.
GRIII is enjoying college and his dad invested his NBA earnings wisely enough that money isn't as big of an issue as it might otherwise be.
Edit: See similar response above.
Just because their website is called nbadraft.net does not make them experts on the draft. Their projections have been horrible over the years and will change significantly as more real publications put their projections out.
Is GRIII a threat to leave? Yes. Is he a lottery pick? Highly doubtful.
You're both right and wrong.
Their mocks are horrible...and the fact that people have to start a thread every week when they update the mock is even worse.
However, he very well could be a lottery pick. NBA drafts on potential. Guys at UNC get drafted in the top 10 and don't even start. McAdoo would've been a lottery pick last year and he did nothing at UNC last year and was clearly under-developed...he still is.
It's all about potential. There's no reason Jared Sullinger should've fallen to the Celtics but Meyers Leonard was a lottery pick. We saw them, both in the B1G, Sullinger was far and away the better player.
Robinson has the highest ceiling of any player on our team. Burke has almost surprisingly gotten as good during his sophomore year as he did during his freshman year. He's a lock to go in round 1. THJ, what you see now is pretty much what you'll get in the league - and that's not a knock. IMO he may have the longest career of anyone (although I think all 3 will last quite some time).
I think the financial deal is the reason Robinson stays, he just doesn't need the money and he can stay one more year just to enjoy college. The NBA is a job, no one will know that better than GRIII...I think he'll want to play another year with McGary and his boys before leaving.
2013: Burke/Hardaway Jr.
2014: Robinson III
2015: McGary
2016: Stauskas
I think LeVert's got a shot to join Stauskas in 2016, both likely in the 2nd round because they'll be seniors and once again, NBA loves potential. Also, don't forget about the new guys coming in, they could easily be on this list.
He is a great player and will be a monster next year, plus leader of team if Burke and TH leave. Either way good for him...credit to what he has done on the floor this year. Kid is talented.
FWIW...that is the worst NBA draft site out there!
Johnathan Givony of Draft Express would be my first pick...http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-mock-draft/2013/
Chad Ford does a decent job for ESPN...check out his Top 100
The guys at mynbadraft do a decent job...http://www.mynbadraft.com/2013-NBA-Mock-Draft
nbadraft.net seems to be close to the bottom year in and year out...
I find it strange that DraftExpress doesn't have Tim or Glenn in their mock draft.
http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-mock-draft/2014/
Glenn is projected to be a lottery pick in 2014 and Tim is a boarderline 1st round pick in 2014...Jonthan Givony is very well respected...he breaks the news first, the you catch Chad Ford tweeting about info from his sources lol
It is highly unlikely either of those 2 are selected in 1st round of the 2013 NBA Draft. I think Draft Express is projecting that GR III will stay in school for another year. Even if Hardaway left this year, it is unlkely he would be selected in the 1st round.
This pretty much summarizes how I feel as well. First, I trust the media who actually have connections with NBA scouts (ESPN's Chad Ford and the like). Second, I can appreciate a site like Draft Express which at least justifies their rankings by breaking down the players' game.
NBADraft.net seems like some guy's lame attempt to capitalize on a domain name. Their content is nonexistent.
I like Chad Ford's analysis of the players, but right now he has 42 players projected to go in the first round.
Not all those players are going to enter the draft. He is projecting each of those 42 to go in the 1st round whichever year it is they go, but not all will declare for the draft. He's done this for years and likely has a good idea that somewhere near 30 of those 42 will declare, give or take a few.
beat a guy off the dribble. At 6'6 and lanky, GIII is a prototypical 3 or 2 at the next level. He needs to show guard skills.
You mean like at the 1:56 mark? I agree he doesn't do it much, but with our other guards he doesn't really have to.
Whatever the case, let's enjoy the season while it's on.
The fact that he's this good/productive as basically the fifth scoring option on the floor (probably gets less drawn up specifically for him than Burke/THJ/Stauskas and whatever big man is on the floor) is kind of ridiculous.
Hey Timmy, you're only 1 year away from getting your diploma dude! Might as well come back for one more year to finish it up.
time for a pep talk from Taylor Lewan
...played only two years at Purdue. He sat out his freshman year due to eligibility/Prop 48 issues, played the next two and was then the first player chosen.
Hopefully, GRIII will follow the Tim Hardaway Jr. route and perfect his craft for another year. He could stand to put on a bit more weight, work on strength and possibly grow a bit more.
You want GR3 to put on more weight and strength? Have you seen him on a television?
If GR3 stays can can move up to be a top 5 pick, it might be worth the investment if you look at the NBA rookie salary scale: http://www.hoopsworld.com/2012-13-rookie-salary-scale/
It's as much as earning twice the amount of money in the span of the first 3 years. If he stays for his sophomore year and becomes the #1 scoring option on next year's squad, he has a chance at turning a good ROI.
Meyers Leonard was the 11th pick last year. Here is his contract and what we are hoping GRIII says no to guys:
2012 | 2,126,520 | |||
2013 | 2,222,160 | |||
2014 | 2,317,920 | |||
2015 | 3,075,879 | |||
2016 | ||||
That's a LOT of money to ask somebody to turn down.
It could be a billion dollars and I'd still hope he stays another year....unless he was letting me be his agent.
It is nice to have something to fall back on. But, the reason people go to school (mostly) is to earn more money. I dont see many degrees earning $14,000,000 in a life time. Let alone 5 years. Hey, I like watching GRIII play but if he leaves, good for him.
I hope GRIII goes #1 and Michigan wins the 'Ship.
Start getting great players, they leave early, again making it more remarkable that teams like duke, Kansas, UNC and UK have stayed strong so long. I think he will leave as his stock will continue to rise.
I've heard from friends of his that he hates academics. I know we all assume that a kid who grew up the wealthy son of an NBA player would value academics highly, but I think GRIII thinks of himself as an NBA talent first and foremost.
Hopefully, he realizes how much higher his stock would elevate after a sophomore season as "the guy" for Michigan. My meaningless opinion would put the odds at about 50/50 right now, and those might lower if we reach the Final Four.
Is there anyone out there who'd rather take tests and study hard rather than play a game to make millions of dollars?
You live in South Florida, but you have connections to a guy who goes to college 1,000 miles away? I'm not sure I believe you.
from his signature
How our team performs in the tournament and specifically how those three perform will determine where they end up in the draft, but I think all three of them could wind up like this.
GRIII has been on their board for months, before the season started.
This is not any indication as to what he intends to do.
And here is why. His father, who was a 1st round 1st pick of the draft will tell his son to chill out your freshman year, learn the game more and become that #1 pick in next year's or 2015 draft. I see him staying aboard for us after this year. Trey did it last season, so GRIII will do that.
Will both be back next year. Robinson wants another year under Beilein to develop and Hardaway is having too much fun at Michigan. He will graduate as a senior.
Neither of the them need the $ I would assume.
Please be a two-and-done GRIII!
How great would it be if all three stayed one more year???
A man can dream, right?
So, what you're telling me is we're producing NBA talent.
he gone - unless we arrange a meeting with a certain left tackle from the football team so they can discuss the joys of staying in Ann Arbor
Rats.. I wasn't even considering losing Robinson after one year, and wanted to see him morph into the BigDog and thicken out... I cannot imagine he leaves... he looks so young, too.
Can someone here please chime in and give me educated odds of each player staying at M next season?
1. Burke
2. Hardaway
3. Robinson
4. McGary
Burke staying: 10%
Hardaway staying: 25%
GRIII staying: 50%
McGary staying: 99%
Unless McGary goes full on beast mode with Morgan out and suddenly starts pouring in 20+ ppg every game for the rest of the season, I don't see any scenario in which he is a one and done. I think Burke is gone unless he feels there is unfinished business after this season if we dont win it all. Timmy is probably gone but might stay because he wants to up his draft stock, since many projections put him at the back of the pack. GRIII I think will stay for another year having seen first hand what it did for Burke, but if he goes all Carmelo Anthony in the tourney he'll probably be gone if his draft stock goes up to the top 5 or so.
Just an uneducated guess though, based on what I've seen through 20 games this season.
Though I really think he is the ONLY one that would be a starter in the NBA coming out of school. GR3 has such tremendous upside potential - but his Dad knows all too well what the NBA can do to a young kid. I believe GR3 is at Michigan for the same reason Tim's dad sent Tim to U of M - namely Beilein.
Since Trey's from Columbus - he may still be listening to his people there, but I think we have 50% on Tim, Jr returning, 67% of GR3's return and I'll put Trey at about 20% given that the other 2 stay. 100% on McGary ...
Go Blue!
If he truly is rated that high, it's hard not to go. As the man, he could move up slightly, or he could be DeShawn Sims. Much more downside than upside there. I'd like him to stay another year because I think there are aspects of his game that he should improve from a basketball stand point. But because the NBA drafts so much on potential and he has shown many good things already (while still having a lot of potential) it makes him high value at this point.
Rarely anymore are college basketball players coming close to maxing out their potential before leaving, and as a Michigan fan and a college basketball fan, it would be nice to see more of these players that still have quite a ways to reach their ceiling to stick around, however it's just not worth it for them in the end.
I don't see 17 better players than Trey Burke coming out of college or overseas. It's a crime if he doesn't go top ten IMO. The Bucks are a damn good fit for him though. I see him as a Brenndon Jennings type of player in the NBA.
This is why now is the year to win it all. When we have Burke, GRIII, THJ, Stauskas and McGary out there, we have 5 guys who are going to play in the NBA. There is no dominant team to contend with, nothing like Kentucky last year. This it it.
At this rate I wonder how long until Nik Stauskas works his way into the discussion of being a first round pick to.
3 years at least. He struggles when he has a solid defender on him plus his D needs a lot of work. I really think you'll see him struggle next year when he doesn't draw the opposing teams 4th best defender.
Move along. Stop looking in this direction please. You keep assigning smaller numbers to all of my favorite players as the year goes on and I'd like you to stop
Fred Jackson and I agree...
Trey Burke = Chris Paul
GR3 = James Hardin
McGary = Kevin Love (not just because he's white)
TH2 = Scotty Pippen
He plays PF now and will play SF in the NBA.
Harden played SG in college and plays SG now. They're nothing a like.
...come to think of it, THJ doesn't make sense either. Pippen played SF and THJ plays SG.
Kevin Love? Has McGary taken a 18 footer all season? I'd say he's more like Jon Brockman.
GRIII will be the next Josh Smith when he enters the league (hopefully after his senior season for the 4 time national champion Wolverines.
Anyone who wants him to stay is being selfish. Not that there's a problem with that but if you say it's for any other reason than thay you are lying.
Bingo
Actually I can think of another reason. Because you haven't watched very many games...
You can explicitly point to the development obvious in Burkes game bc he stayed and GRIIIs lack of total physical control in the game as a reason. He's playing well but not dominating at his position in the Big Ten, much less the NCAA
GRIII is ours for at least one more season. Or so I hope.
Vultures with $$$ in their talons.
It's all about projected draft position. If Little Dog has enough "experts" (meaning pro scouts, agents, family members) telling him that he's a lottery pick, there is a very strong chance he bolts. Same with Timmay.
Guys who are lottery picks do stay around once in a while (McAdoo and Zeller last year for example), but it isn't a common occurence. I'd wager that GR3 will land a projection of somewhere in the latter half of Round 1 and come back to be the "man" and THJ and Burke both get lottery projections and bolt, especially with a strong tournament performance.
Odds of Returning:
Burke - 0%
Timmay - 60%
Little Dog - 50%
Even if all three leave you'd still have...
PG - Albrecht
SG - LeVert
SF - Stauskas
PF - McGary
C - Morgan
With Walton, Irvin, Horford, and Biefeldt off the bench and another 4-star frosh in Donnal. Certainly not this year's squad, but not too shabby either. If both THJ and GR3 return, then, we'd have to be a contender again next year, especially if Walton can come in and play well right away.
That said, forget about it fellas, let's enjoy this ride.
crazy how good burke is that this is projecting GR3 ahead of him
Robinson's and Hardaway's dads are probably making them stay
While he obviously has some relationship with his dad, I haven't read anywhere that he is super close with him. And I have no idea how well off the Big Dog is these days. You can't assume that GRIII doesn't want/need that big payday. Anyone going in the first round is getting big guaranteed money.
