Goodbye Norfleet

I can't embed with the app so forgive me, but per his Instagram earlier today, Norfleet will not be playing for Michigan anymore. "Nothing but love for the M. I wish you all the best and the fans. I'm gonna miss y'all..."

Norfleet will always win the award for "omg I hope he's gone run this back, he has a chance to go all the way, look at that hole, yes he's gonna finally do it, go go go, oh shit he was tackled on the 15." Award.

I loved the guy and so much wanted him to win. :(

Trying to be optimistic here. Norfleet had speed and a lot of potential, but he never took one to the house, despite many attempts. Perhaps a change at the return man position will reverse Michigan's fortune in that regard. Also, I always go back to the fact that neither MSU nor RR's Michigan offered the kid despite him being on the radar of the recruiting services (he was a listed as a 4-star RB on Rivals). You may recall that Hoke's staff waited until the 11th hour of the signing period to offer, seemingly to fill a gap at RB (even though he wasn't ultimately used a such) in that year's recruiting class (Drake Johnson was the only other RB in that class). Was it grades? Size? Is his departure otherwise connected to the reason that Dantonio, RR, and Hoke shied away from offering him?

I suppose that’s what happens when you reportedly ditch your academics and skip exams. Hard for me to feel all that sorry for him if there’s truth to any of that.

Definitely wish him the best of luck, but he’s another one of those guys where I have to sit there and wonder just how much of his talent was wasted on Hoke. We knew he had the speed and talent to take one to the house, but he was inexplicably never able to. Some of that’s on him, sure, but methinks a lot of it is also on Hoke and his staff’s inability to develop players and teach proper fundamentals in any phase of the game. Makes me think a lot too about how many highly touted guys have come in here the last few years, and how much of that talent has been wasted thus far as well. Cringe-worthy, to say the least.

Here’s to hoping everyone gets their second chance under Harbaugh.
