This sucks.  I has really excited to see Dawson at Michigan.

I guess yesterday was a little too good, had to balance it out with some bad news.

Sunday starts on the same trajectory as it has been for the last month+.  Just need the Lions to lose, the Tigers to lose, and my FFB team to fail miserably to keep pace with the norm as of late.... Sigh.

One player does not a pipeline make.  Tough to lose this kid though, was looking forward to his mean streak. 

It has to do with Dawson wanting to take visits.

Looks like some more 2014 offers will be going out to o-linemen. In good shape for Cole, Doles, Hendren, Devers, and Ward. Should be another solid class in the trenches.

Clearly the kid really wants to go to Florida...so be it. If he would rather head to Florida/Carolina then the in-state rivalry this weekend then that is all you need to know about where he seems to have his heart set on.

I'm past the stage of worrying about recruits. Michigan will always recruit well - losing a player here or there is not going to kill this program. Hoke and Co. are building a dynasty here.

Just think - guy's like Jake Ryan and Des Morgan were about as heralded as me coming out of High School.

Michigan will be strong.

UM needs to revisit this policy.  If a kid commits, then wavers and wants to take other visits, UM shouldn't "part ways."  They should just classify the kid as going from committed to uncommitted, and continue recruiting him.  I post not to pontificate, but rather to see if someone can enlighten me as to why this is an errant approach.

So do we go after another guard now?  If so, who?

We should be fine. I think Kalis and Bosch will have the guard spots locked up for the next four or five years. Dawson would've been in a dog fight with Braden, Fox, Magnuson, and LTT.

Wish the kid the best; this happens.  Haven't heard much about him recently, but that could have been a sign.

It really sucks, and I like what I am seeing so far from fans, but I really hope people take this well. Meaning no tweets at him unless they are to wish him well. I have no problem with a kid taking time to make a decision. Hell I am doing that with what job I am going to take and I am years older than this kid.

So good luck to him, hope he ends up back at Michigan, but I hope that he does well whereever he goes.

No question he is florida bound....oh well. Good luck to him onward and upward from here.

We can't blame him for visiting.  Years ago I wanted to attend UF as well.  Then I visited Gainesville and realized I didn't want to spend four years in that town.

Best of luck to the young man either way.  His story is a tearjerker.

This kid has been on my nerves for a while with all his commit watchs.. Fuck him and the fact he thinks hes a future legend..( You havent done shit kid) I hope SC puts a beat down on the gators...also, I could care less if hes a kid in high school...Kid plays to many games

I know we're still rebuilding the depth on O-Line, so do we go after another O-Lineman or does this open up a spot for McQuay?

Honestly he's a bit undersized for what this coaching staff is looking at for guard.  Wouldn't be surprised if Hoke outright pulled the scholly.  Now we can slide fox and bosch inside and grab Pocic as a second tackle.

I agree that this class will survive this, but this certainly doesn't help us with Derrick Green. I think those two are pretty close.

Wonder what would happen in a situation like  this if the kid  took other  visits, then decided he was ready to commit to us again, agreeing to not  take  any more  visits? Is the door left  open or is  the seperation permanent?

I don't follow thing closely enough to have known of his apparent affection for UF and their players instead of ours, but I've been saying all along that we were going to have at least one high-profile decommit before signing day. It's an inevitable by-product of so many kids committing so early. You hate to lose a local kid, but at least he won't be playing elsewhere in the conference.

Michigan isn't right for everybody, and not everybody is right for Michigan.

I can't say that I'm extremely disappointed, though I took a lot of flak when I wrote his commitment post.

Losing Dawson blows.  I was really looking forward to him in maize and blue.  However, on the bright side we get to look forward to a Hello Post, after thinking most were already used up this year.

Yeah...not sure if that's bright side...more like dimly lit side.

 Doesn't really mean Dawsons gone for good. If he is just interested in taking trips it's possible he could recommit after visits. It's not like it hasn't happened before.

How about Anibal Sanchez, now he most likely hands it off to the pen.

I don't wish any luck upon him, good or bad.  He will not be attending Michigan, so I am indifferent about his future.

The loss of Dawson drops us below LSU in the current Rivals Team Rankings.  At this point Scout hasn't updated the loss on their site.

in a way this seems like a no-lose situation, really. Seems like there are other really good players we are in on for 2013, and other OL for 2014. So, while Dawson is good, I don't see this as devastating, and I'm sure he'll do well wherever he goes.

Psychologist here but Im thinking he may have done this in part due to the death of his Dad. Perhaps he feels he can distance himself a bit from it by moving away. Hard for any one but really tough at that age. Anyway, hope he does well where ever he ends up.

I'm sure the coaches aren't shocked, as people change their minds all the time. It really is better for Dawson to move on if he gelled better with they guys at Florida.

The coaches have also been pretty clear:  unless you are positive you want to attend Michigan, don't commit. They have encouraged recruits to visit schools, and to see what is out there.

On the bright side, we definitely have room for Treadwell, Green, and McQuay. This also opens room for a late bloomer or two, whether on the OL or elsewhere.

Regarding the OL, I have heard that the coaches are really high on Ben Braden, one of the current redshirt freshmen. I think people are forgetting that we had a good recruiting class of OL in 2012, along with the four remaining in 2013.

It would be great to add another solid OG, but if one doesn't materialize, I'd rather have an extra scholarship to give on signing day, or hold one for 2014.
