should read this.  Just goes to show you that boys CAN be molded into men, and now Ricky Powers is doing the same for the kids he's coaching.

Since Bo was here, THIS was what he wanted.

THIS was how he created Michigan Men.

THIS is Michigan.

This is a terrific reminder of what can be achieved through dedication and hard work. His efforts are giving these young men a future that they would not have had otherwise.

Thanks for posting this. I had no idea of the huge impact that he was making on so many lives.

Mods - Is there any way to give this front page status? I can't think of a more deserving article.

what would Bo do

It got surprisingly dusty in the room when I read it.  My JV coach told me that he didn't measure his sucess by wins and losses and that his only goal for us was for us to become a team and for us to become.  If we suceeded, we wouldn't have to look for wins, we would have already found them.  He was absolutely right.

As freshman, Ricky and I lived on the same floor of South Quad. He was always approachable and even hung out with us in our room. I remember he would kill my roommate in Techmo Bowl. I remember talking to him a few days before the NFL draft. He was so excited. Anyways, I always wondered how he was doing. It's great to hear what a great Michigan alum he has become and how he is giving back to the youth of his community. I'm proud of you, Ricky!

What a great reminder that success is sometimes different from what we expect it to be. Most of us who have lived enough life have experienced failures like Ricky Powers. Very few of us have a consistent upward trajectory. When you fail, when you don't reach your potential, when you make mistakes, what happens next? I'm so thrilled to see what Ricky Powers has done, and encouraged in my own failures to do the same thing:  learn, and use what I have to make a difference in the lives of others.

A program that continues to produce men who can make a difference. There are many kinds of champions, and championships can be won in unlikely places.
