Just wanted to say that.
Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner.
So curious to rewatch this game.
I've read all the major sports networks/blogs for content on the game. Need MOAR.
Anyone have good suggestions?
We can walk the streets. I dont know what that means but Kirk Cousins said it.
for an early chuckle or two, but they are incredibly tepid and rational. Maybe I'll hit some USC boards?
Unfortunately NDNation has made a separate game board that is only visible to registered members. That was always an interesting read after a Notre Dame loss. Although I felt like I needed a shower after visiting the site.
...what you are looking for there. I grew up a Wazzu fan before the family moved to Michigan. Last night was delicious.
Need to know
From recruits and they were all praising the atmosphere in the stadium and how exciting the game was.
Has anyone heard from him ??
He called me last night. Said this was a classic trap game as ND was caught looking forward to its game against its national rival, Purdue.
Well done. Loved how Fowler dropped that gem at the start of Gameday too.
I'm pretty sure!
He'll blame the refs!
Find some way to love on Brian Kelly!
And include some reference to Irish wiskey!
Drank way too much last night. Sporting a nice hangover this morning. Can't seem to stop smiling though. Anybody get a look at what recruits were there to witness that greatness? Please tell me Hand was there.
Picture proof can be found here that Hand was there and appears happy.
A few things I learned this weekend...
(1) Football at the Big House under the lights is absolutely incredible
(2) Hand is a really, really nice kid and LOVES, LOVES Michigan...he talks about Michigan like he is already committed
(3) Bunting is really, really tall...he looks like he could play power forward
(4) 2016 OL recruit Swenson is a mountain...I can't believe he is a sophomore
(5) Rick's is a shit hole
(6) I can still drink like a college student...but my recovery is a little slower
(7) fried chicken macaroni & cheese from Zingerman's Roadhouse is amazing...BUT rough on the stomach!
I just tested it and the game is indeed available now on BTN2Go if you want to watch it that way. That being said, it is indeed a good morning...
Our team looked pretty darn good last night.
...BUT since I find it easier to focus on what we need work on, I still have some concerns. We gave up way more yards than I expected. Countess is back and is our best DB, but the rest of our defensive backfield was not great. They did do a good job of avoiding the big play but gave up a lot of yards in the intermediate passing game. Clark was a non-factor and I think the pre-season hype was just hype. Ojemudia looked like he got more pressure on the few snaps I saw him. I hope Charlton gets some snaps too. Our run defense seemed to miss Q-Wash, so I hope he is feeling better soon. Gardner looked great for a lot of the game, but again he can't seem to get through an entire game without an INT. He almost threw two and we got a break with a pass interference call. And, although I love Gallon he seems to throw his way too often. Sometimes I feel like he decides where he's gonna throw before he actually reads the play. Kalis looked great, but Miller and Glasgow couldn't get much push. I know they went up against a big front, but their performance needs to improve.
With all that negativity out of the way we got a win, which really sets us up for a great year and a possible BCS appearence, even if we don't win the B1G. Both the Devin's had big games, Fitz looked good with limited space, Gallon was great, the defense held when they had to, etc. I am a little worried that we have some of the same issues we had last year...not enough push from the o-line, no real pass rush from the front 4, and a little weak on back half. But, even with all that there are really only 2-3 teams that should be able to take advantage of those weaknesses (ND, NW, and OSU) and we already beat one. All in all a great win and a great experience. Mr. Hand, I hope you noticed our need for you! Does anyone think Peppers doesn't start at CB opposite Countess from day one?
Remember that Devin has only started 7 games....that he is playing as well as he is, is nothing short of amaing.
Being at the game was an absolute blast....from the flyovers to the bracelets, the huge impassioned crowd, halftime show and the chicken Dance song....if you are a recruit and not impressed, I'm not sure what will get your attention.
I seriously regret that the "regional rivalry" is coming to an end and so did many of the ND fans I talked to before and during the game. But hey, playing Purdue or Wake at noon makes so much more sense.
And that's OK. You are who you are and I am who I am. I love the win and took note of a number of excellent things, but I can't help but see glaringly obvious challenges that we have had for quite some time, talked about all off-season, and still have. And sorry, but to me that's frustrating. I won't ignore it just because we got a nice win. The win is great, we had some great performances, we hung tough, but we haven't fixed a lot of issues we had last year yet.
Yes, but those are problems for some other day.
Let the glory of today wash over you like a bubble bath of chicken soup.
But what does Drew Sharp think?
Maybe he will at least have Michigan at #25 this week.
Funny...drew sharp is an idiot.
Mark May has Michigan in top 5.....
If Mark May has UM in his top 5 it's probably just to troll Lou Holtz.
Honestly, why the fuck does anyone care?
Ignore him and he'll go away.
What a great game that was. Both teams gave it their best shot, and both teams played well. And anybody else watching it (I have to believe the recruits at the game were impressed) knows Michigan earned a spot as one of the top 10 teams in the nation.
is a heck of a jump from 17, and our defense is not good enough to make this team top 10. I expect us to come in around 11-13 after this weekend.
With Florida, Texas, and ND losing, we would be 14 at a minimum. Add in a win over a higher ranked opponent and you're right, probably 11-13.
I'd probably put them at 12 right now if I was a voter.
our defense is not good enough to make this team top 10
Have you watched many other games around the country? In today's college football, games between top 20 teams frequently have scores in the 30s (as both of Georgia's games did, for instance).
Defense isn't played in a vacuum. Between the opponent they play, and the fact that coaches will, you know, coach them (the defense will get better as the year goes along)...the defense looked bad, but let's not forget what 2010 was. This defense still made some key plays when it mattered. And Mattison is still a genius.
Great win, great game !!! But I feel rough, drank way more than expected.
1. It was the signature win michigan has been looking for through 2 .16 years.
2. DG was AWESOME apart from the ugly pick. But I am kinda happy for that ugly pick becuz it didnt hurt us too bad and it might be a tiny reason why dg might come back to mich next year.
3. I was surprised by the offense overall. I frankly thought mi might struggle this year a lil bit with a lack of proven big time receivers.
4. Defense got exposed a lil bit. We are still far from being national contenders. Maybe next years elite talent will help. Is there something in the scheme of our defense that makes DTs less effective?
5. I share the concern that fleet will never break one for a td in kick return. Ill be watching for it in the next 2 games becuz itll probably be the best opportunity for him.
6. Overall, a very satisfying win...they have already shown that the team is good to elite this year.,,,no matter what happens the rest of the year... i liked utl2 more than utl1 cuz it was slightly more methodical...
The 3 and 5 step drops played a major role in negating our pass rush.
Beyonce is the recruit OW.
But I think they're better than they showed last night. Too many missed tackles and not enough big hits and disruption. Part of that seemed to be Mattison's game plan, which appeared to be one of containment. In the end, it worked. It seemed like our DBs other than Countess (especially Taylor) were getting beat all night in coverage, as well as Bolden and Ross, but when you look at the stats, ND only averaged 5.7 YPA in the air, which I'll take. Some of that was Rees missing open receivers, but we also did not give up any big plays.
The offense, on the other hand, rang up 41 points and 472 yards against one of the better front 7s around, and we did that even though ND also moved the ball very well. That's impressive.
I almost wish we had a bit tougher opponent next week, because I think our defense needs more of a test than Akron can give them before we can tell how good they really are. Too many good offenses in the BT for us to play this soft and win consistently.
+1...I'll hit you up when posbanging returns
Godamn right it is. It's a beautiful morning and everything is wonderful.
And an unwillingness to blitz with tighter pass coverage behind it was disappointing especially given the Clark preseason hype. Upside is that ND was likely the best line we will face until Ohio.
But other than that....it's a beautiful morning in Connecticut.
yes it is
That's all well and good. But remember, the last time we beat these guys UTL, we only won 11 games, including the Sugar Bo-....................
Forget what I just wrote ... All is right with the world.
Our interior o line obviously has to get better, but they are young, and will get better each week. As for our defense, Notre Dame can score on ANYONE. The scheme was geared towards the fear of Notre Dame's play makers, because Mattison knows our secondary and back 7 is young, and still learning. Other than Ohio, Notre Dame is the most consistent offense we'll see all year.
NW? A certain unstoppable throw godly beg to differ.
I am so jacked up for the multiple TE sets we're going to destroy people with.
Is Funchess OK?
So I'm thinking yes
Still hoping one kid decides last night was too great to hold off commiting and picks Michigan today. I also hope Brian Cole realizes that Michigan >> MSU.
Overall, it's a great day in Albany....
Offense -- We're not getting the push in the run game, and Toussaint bounces too much. That said, we have to run the ball, and we can use the pass to set up the run, so that will help. In pass pro, the interior line looks vulnerable, as we expected. It's a good thing Gardner can scramble out of trouble. It's great to have an excellent passer back there. On the EZ interception -- it was just Devin thinking he can make something happen no matter what. He'll learn, and the end result, well, that's just something that won't happen again.
Defense -- A bend-don't break strategy to protect our safeties and limit the big play. Our D-line was dominated for the most part and our LB corps misses JMFR. That said, they made big plays when they had to (nice stick RayTay) and did enough to allow the offense to win. Hopefully the D-line can improve and the safety situation can get better. Nice plays by the CBs, doing what they were asked to do. I noticed Pipkins a little more than some others; he needs more PT.
I guess I was a little surprised reading the snowflakes thread with a lot of ppl more down on the M defense than I was. They gave up 23 points, 3 fgs included. Most of the game we rushed 4 guys against a 6 man O line. Few teams in the country are gonna generate a good rush off that. Our LBs looked to be 6-7 yards past the los, pretty much conceding a 5 yard ND rush. Playing with 2 deep safeties as well most of the time. NDs RB, i forget his name, had great burst, which I think ND RBs have lacked in recent years. I didn't like how we clearly telegraphed our 4 man rushes too many times. Ramon Taylor had a good game, tackling machine. My bottom line point is this was totally bend don't break game plan for the defense. With our alignments, I don't see how ppl could think the defense could do a whole lot better than what they did.
I completely agree. The game plan was to play a bend don't break defense to limit the big play and make Notre Dame drive the length of the field and then hold them to field goals. It was pretty successful in my opinion. The run defense will get much better, we were playing six in the box against 6 and seven man fronts and they were coming downhill. The pass rush needs to improve, but they accomplished what they wanted to do, limit big plays and make Notre Dame work for every point they got. Not too mention Notre Dame runs a passing spread which is a pretty hard offense to stop and Brian Kelly is one of the better offensive minds in the country/
As you said, the D only let up 23 points. Not to mention that one of those touchdowns they let up was a super lucky bounce off the RB's hands 5 yards directly into a receiver's hands behind him.
Did ND have some drives? sure, but all teams will have some drives. However, they put us in a position to win, and that is all that matters. A far cry from the GRob era thankfully.
Being happy is so much better than being sad.
Laissez les poulets danser!
that ND fans probably enjoyed last night was Mr Jameson. For that, I envy them.
Any news on DaShawn Hand???
I was really thinking we would of heard something by now after him attending last night.
It's Great to be a Michigan Wolverine
I did not see Avery out there on defense last night....not sure if its because of his injury or the coaches like what they have in Wilson. In my opinion, Id prefer Wilson out there because he is bigger and more of a natural at the position vs a very undersized corner playing safety for the first time!
If anyone wants to relive last night, the replay is on BTN
I think we held them to under 100 rushing.
But they only had 19 rushes on the game. Threw the ball 53 times. Nonexistent as our (power) run game was, I think it was important that we tried to keep a semblance of balance in the offensive gameplan, as opposed to ND that was too pass happy considering their success on the ground
I live in Texas and it was quite a joy watching the Longhorns get ambushed by BYU, followed by our sweet victory over the Irish. Wearing my Wolverine jersey in the midst of orange has never felt so good.
I won't miss the late kickoffs. I couldn't get to bed until 3 AM. I too old dammit.
We've earned it.
